Dear Mark, On March 18th I picked up my new Bosch dishwasher from your New Brunswick store. I write today to tell you how disappointed I was in my buying experience at Derby. As you may recall, when I picked up the dishwasher I was concerned that it was not the unit that I had ordered. I had been researching a few different Bosch dishwashers and had contacted your store via the website looking very specifically for a price on a Bosch SHE45M05UC. I believe it was XXXX who had helped me. When we eventually spoke on the phone, as he did not return my email with a price in writing, he quoted me the price of $668 for the dishwasher. I was rather surprised, as the price was considerably below that of the other stores I had been examining. To be sure that I did not misunderstand him, I asked him to confirm the model – twice – to which he affirmatively confirmed that model for that price. With the quote in hand, I relayed the information to my mother, who called in the order on her credit card to XXXX. She did not have any further information, nor was she told that the dishwasher that would be delivered was not the dishwasher she was ordering. The day that I picked up the dishwasher was right before my parents, from whom the dishwasher was a gift, were to arrive. My dad and I had planned some quality “father-and-son” time to work together on the installation, as my new home previously had no dishwasher. We don’t get to spend very much time together and I knew that it was something he was looking forward to. So when I was assured by both the sales associate at the store XXXX and the original salesman on the phone that this was simply a part number change on the part of Bosch, I went against my gut and took the dishwasher home so that the weekend’s plans with my father could proceed. I later determined that the part number discrepancy – and the price – were due to a difference in the product. The unit I received (SHE45C05UC) did not have the flip-down tines on the bottom rack or as many on top, nor did it have the “RackMatic” height adjustment on the top rack. The price between Derby and the nearest competitor was about $75 – the price difference that one would expect for these features. In addition, one of the incentives in purchasing the unit from the Jersey Avenue store was the 3.5% sales tax. When my mom placed the order over the phone she was charged the full 7% sales tax. In the end, I am left with a rather bitter taste in my mouth. I have been familiar with Derby for a number of years. As I purchased my first home, I was hoping to establish a relationship with a local business that I could trust now and into the future and could provide better customer service than the “big box stores.” I was even willing to pay slightly more for that consideration – which is the ultimate irony here. Had the proper dishwasher been quoted and it came in even slightly above the competition, I had still planned to purchase from Derby… especially since your New Brunswick store is so convenient for me. The end result of this transaction will be, simply, that I will not purchase from Derby again and that I will share this story with everyone that I know looking for appliances in Central Jersey. To say that I was disappointed in my buying experience at your store is an understatement. I felt cheated and forced, by my own circumstances with my family plans for the dishwasher that weekend, to accept a transaction that was flawed from the start. Since more than a month has elapsed since the purchase – and the dishwasher has been installed and is actively in use – I’m not writing to request anything in particular. I just wanted to tell you my story and how utterly disappointed I am with my Derby buying experience. I can only hope to prevent others from having such an experience in the future.

We have been buying all of our home appliances from Derby Appliances for many years and always received great service, fast delivery and great prices. When we first moved into the neighborhood and my kids were young, our old washing machine needed to be replaced right away and I called in advance and talked to Jay, who recommended a model to fit our needs and our budget. Since one of my kids was sick and I couldnt leave the house, my husband went to Derby straight from work and looked at the model that was recommended, and within minutes, the sale was done, the delivery was scheduled for the very next day. The delivery guys were very nice and did the job so quickly, with no problems taking out the old washer from our basement and bringing in the new one. They hooked up all the hoses, took away all the cardboard and plastic wrap, and let me know when they were done so I could take a look at the new washer before they left. He made sure to hand me the instruction manual packet too, so I could read it over. Another time, a few years later, I needed a new dishwasher after our old one, which was at least 20 years old and from the previous owner, stopped working. It was summertime and I was watching 4 other kids, in addition to my own kids, while their parents worked. I prepared breakfast, lunches and snacks for them and preferred using dishes and silverware rather than paper plates and plastic utensils, so having a dishwasher that worked was a real priority for me. I piled all the kids into the van and brought them all with me into the Derby store to shop for a new dishwasher (I called the store in advance to tell them I was coming and to make sure it was OK to bring the kids). The salesman was very friendly, very accommodating and patient, and didnt even blink an eye when he saw me enter with all these kids. He answered my questions and explained all the features of the dishwashers that I was interested in and pointed out a few other models that I hadnt considered. I was able to make a decision pretty quickly, given the attention span of all the kids that I had with me. The dishwasher was delivered and installed the next day and they took away the old dishwasher, which I was glad to see go (it took over 2 hours to finish a cycle, compared to 56 minutes with my new dishwasher). Since then, I have been very happy with this dishwasher, which I still have and still use several times a day, every day. I am proud to support a local, family-owned business, especially one which is very convenient for me to get to, and has consistently demonstrated how family-friendly they are by making it very quick and easy to do business with them. Whenever someone I know needs to replace an appliance, I always recommend Derby Appliances to them. Thanks again.

We recently purchased a Weber Summit S470 natural gas grill (at a very good price, plus we took advantage of the discounted sales tax). After having it delivered and setup on our deck (which is on the second level in the rear of our home), we realized that we had more than enough room for the larger S670. The folks at Derby (our salesman Clarence as well as the owner, Mark) were willing to allow us to upgrade and they redelivered the larger, HEAVIER S670 (yes, up those 12+ stairs again) and took back the S470 (yes, DOWN the stairs). Our experience at Derby was terrific and were very happy and enjoying our new grill.
