Have usually had good interactions and purchases here, but with new employee turn-around I guess comes less control on public relations and product knowledge. Ive been incredibly disappointed with the lack of product and activity knowledge and help Ive been able to get this fall/winter. Add to that the lack of professionalism in many of the new staff and you have an equation for a poor shopping experience. Case in point. I got a great price on a set of super quality clearance skis. Found out the shop could hook up some discounts cuz I bought them there and the guy that helped me (Zach) was super helpful and knew I wasnt in a good financial state and gave me a discount to help me get started with these new skis. The guy that rang me up at the till the next day walked back into the shop after charging me and started dropping all sorts of obscenities and spoke disparagingly about myself and the associate that had helped me out. It was extremely disheartening and detracted immensely from the experience of breaking into a new hobby. As a result I wont be going back to their ski shop, and my purchases there will be greatly minimized. They seriously just lost thousands of dollars of business as I, my friends, and my family had been loyal customers. Not only here in Bozeman, but also out in the Tacoma and Seattle area. This is becoming too disturbing of a trend; idiot kids working for businesses that dont care about their appearances, how they present themselves, and how they treat customers. Let this be a wake-up-call to all local businesses. Bozemans too small to let these punks be an a-hole and think nothing will come of it. Theres another guy always around the corner ready to treat you better and accept your hard-earned money...

Poor customer service and a disconnect between their corporate/online store has left me choosing to shop elsewhere. We ordered two tents online and selected pickup from the store. They shipped separately to the store. When the first arrived, I picked it up and noticed they had the other one in stock (several). I asked the rep at the counter if I could grab one in stock. She said she could not see that I ordered anything else. Instead of looking more, that was all she could do. I looked up the order on my phone and gave her the order number; same order number as the tent that already arrived and she gave to me. After all that, she tells me I can buy a tent from their store full price and return the other tent after it came in. I told her this experience was frustrating and her and another associate blew it off. Very unprofessional. I started shopping at REI over 20 years ago in Atlanta, GA and thats my last experience with them. Get new staff at your Bozeman store and create a better experience for your customer no matter where they shop with you.

REI rocks. I try to buy from a local store whenever possible, but REIs return policy just cant be beat. My wife drove our Jetta into the garage with a bike on the roof, totally trashed the rack, and when I went to REI to look for parts to fix it, they told me to return the whole thing for a new one! And this was AFTER I told them how we broke it! And the rack was on sale when I returned it, so they gave me the difference back as store credit!!! Saved me $165 for a new bike rack, plus I got $ returned! How crazy is that? Also, the coupons are awesome, and being a member is definitely worthwhile for the garage sales alone. Got a pair of super nice spotless randonee boots at a garage sale for half price. The classes are great as well, they do a good job of getting authoritative people in to give talks. The bear awareness class was awesome, and helped dispell some myths about bear behavior.

Went into Bozeman MT to shop for Goretex coat, sleeping pad and boot insoles. Asked a salesclerk how to inflate a pad do you use a pump or blow it up ? She tells me "we prefer customers dont use their mouth-theres a pump in the corner" points in a general direction and walks away. Customer service? I put pad back and go get boots from car, come back in. Stand around shoe area-no help- start pulling out insoles from demo area, husbands trying to help. We cant find the one we need-give up, leave that department. Go look at Goretex jackets. Ask a couple questions-sales- help? They all run to the back area and disappear. We give up and leave- the place is empty of customers..... Just the way they like it at this store apparently. Online ordering is easier-at least you dont expect help. The most non-existent customer service Ive ever experienced in an REI.

Pleasant facility, crazy busy location. Good selection, inventory of recreational products. Here’s the downside. Operationally, the the store staff are consistently NOT good. Just attempted to purchase approx. $1k worth of snowboard gear. Waited 10 minutes, no store personnel would engage or offer to assist. Even the front register staff (who were in range of vision of the snow gear department) would NOT make eye contact or offer assistance. Too bad, $oo $ad.

I was treated very rudely the past two times I was at REI. Apparently if youre not an REI member, you dont have to be treated with respect. I dont shop there enough to take advantage of the rewards that $20 extra would get me. I will never shop there again. Plus - they are ridiculously overpriced. I purchased a Kelty pack there for $165 and found the exact same on at Scheels in Billings for $120.

Membership has its advantages and quality products mean less worries about performance. Where else can you belong to a store that is member owned, not just a club with dues, and enjoy the benefits that difference makes in this highly competitive retail world.

Have been very happy with REI. Ive been a member for over a decade and was glad they got a store in Bozeman finally. They have a good selection and probably the most lax return policy around. They usually have good sales and their equipment is nice.

I did work for REI removing pallets and old display cases today. The woman I dealt with was very pleasant, east going and curtious a pleasure to have done work for on multiple occasions.

Store is large and has a pretty good selection of things but the store is rather disorganized. With the help of a worker it still took a good amount of time to find a snake bite kit.

This store is wonderful and its great that its in a town as small as Bozeman! I have purchased most of my outdoors equipment here over the years and I wont stop any time soon!

Love this REI! Their employees are super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Sarah gave me excellent advice on the sleeping bags and camping equipment last time I was there.

Pretty good store and now that northern lights is out of buissiness, rei really is the only big store to offer a lot of different outdoor products.

Consistently good service from the shop. Floor staff seem somewhat less knowledgeable than youd hope. Member garage sales are insanely packed.

Steven (sp?) in the bike department was extremely helpful. Really appreciate service like this. Definitely recommend.
