I decided to have my dog groomed by Daphny at Brookside Barkery in Lees Summit. My appointment was at 7:30. I arrived early and waited in the parking lot for 20 minutes. Finally, at 7:40 Daphny drove up. She unlocked the door and turned on the lights, she was rushing around to open the cash register and get organized. I waited until she put her two dogs in their crates, she came back and asked for my grooming instructions which she wrote down. I emphasized that she should not cut the 2" long tuft of white hair at the tip of my dogs tail, I thought it made her look adorable and unique. She called me a couple hours later when my dog was ready to be picked up. You dont get to see your dog before you pay, the manager said its easier that way. So I paid the cashier and included a tip. Then my dog came out --- her long white tuft of hair was cut COMPLETELY off! I was very upset. Daphne made excuses for why she did it and then she finally apologized. There were other customers in the store so I left, not wanting to make a scene. Every time I looked at my dog I got upset all over again. Later that afternoon I called and asked to speak with the manager. A lady answered the phone, she did not give her name, I asked to speak with a manager. The lady said "If you are calling about the hair I cut off your dogs tail, Ill take $10 off your next grooming". I asked her her name. I told Daphny that I would rather be compensated for the grooming I just had and I didnt think I would be coming back. I tried to talk to her but she talked over me loudly. Then she said "I WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU CAN NOT COME BACK HERE AGAIN FOR GROOMING SERVICES." I did not ask for nor did I expect a full refund and I was shocked that I was being banned from services at their store because Daphny didnt follow instructions. I would probably have given her another chance but now Ill have to find someplace else to take my dog. Then Toby, the manager came on the phone. He was professional and polite and said he would talk to the owner, he confirmed that he would refund my credit card and that I could not come back. He suggested I go to their other store in Brookside, 30 minutes from where I live. I would like to go back there to buy my dog food and other pet supplies but now it will be VERY awkward.

Im not the type person to write a review on anything but since I was so upset about this matter I decided to post. I gave it two stars because I do like the place. However at this location my dog leaves out of there traumatized. Ive recently gotten him groomed a month ago. When we left out of there he wasnt the same. On our way home I scopes him out looking at common areas that I know a dog may get clipped while cutting their fur, but I didnt see anything. I went into touching his face and he bit me. My dog has NEVER done that to me. So I knew something was up but I couldnt figure it out. I was talking to one of my friends about it and hes said maybe his nose is sore from the salon. I told him Even if that was the case I dont think he would have bit me cause he has never shown aggression towards me. I was all confused as to why my dog was acting so funny. I finally got home and settled. I figured once we get home my dog will be more at peace. Nope he still wasnt. He wasnt happy AT ALL. He seemed really depressed. That is so out of character for him. I got in to the tub and he likes to sit by the tub while Im in it. I reached over to soothe him and there I saw it! My friend was right, there was A big cut on his face near the corner of his eye! She could have poked his eye out! I wanted to curse! I had even tipped her and everything! I was so furious. I started apologizing to my dog that this happened and kissing him and hugging him. He immediately knew what I was saying. If he could talk he would have instantly told me. So I grabbed an aleve gel pill cut into it and applied to the cut on his face. He finally became at ease when he realized that I realized what he was trying to tell me. This isnt the first time he left here in this same state of mind so I decide to not take him to this location anymore. I took him to the independence branch in spring earlier this year and he left out of there completely fine, acting normal. I come to this company because the very first time I took him here he left happy like they treated him really good up until the day he started leaving here acting traumatized. This was the last straw for me. I dont want to stop bringing him here I would rather drive to independence but if it boils down to him not going anymore thats what itll just have to be.

We love Jennifer! Even though Teddy, our Shih Tzu-terrier mix from a shelter, has some fear-aggression issues, Jennifer and the other groomers were not put off and welcomed him into the shop. Teddy was not, uhm, agreeable the first time, so Jennifer suggested rescheduling the appointment and asked me to stop by for a couple of quick get-acquainted visits before the store opened (during the early morning drop-off hours for grooming). Jennifer was calm and low-key with Teddy, offered yummy treats, got down on the floor with him (while I hid among the shelves), and helped him feel comfortable. He was just fine when I dropped him off for the real thing and behaved great while he was there. Yahoo! Jennifer also listened to what kind of trim I wanted. Teddy looked great and even seemed pretty pleased with himself.

Ive been to BB&B twice now with Teddy, my Pomeranian. We were in the store for 10-15 minutes both times, and no one offered to help us. All of the yelp reviewers rave about the friendly staff and their willingness to help. However, all I found is a boutique store that plays classical music while you purchase expensive dog food. Petsmart has much better customer service than this. Aside from the employees that arent interested in helping, the store is cute and well stocked with food, treats and toys. The prices on Earthborn dog food are actually cheaper than online. The treats are adorable and even my picky dog loves them. I was sad when I had two bad experiences at BB&B. I really want to be excited about the store, but just cant get over the lack of customer service.

I have been in this store 3 times now and not once has one of the clerks ever offered to help me, even though there were several twiddling their thumbs behind the counter obviously not working. Even when I stood at the counter they ignored me . . . apparently I wasnt "Brookside" worthy ! I will not return to this store. The help is rude and inconsiderate. I will order my pet food on line from now on. P.S. Also the store smells dirty like dog poop. Yes, I know it is a pet food store/groomery, but Petsmart and even my vets office dont smell like this store. P U !!!!
