I recently ALMOST purchased a Soul from this dealership. The test drive went well. We began the negotiation for the value of my trade-in. I researched the value of my vehicle before going to the dealership and it fell somewhere between $3,531 in very poor condition and $4,806 in excellent condition. The initial offer was $3,500. My car has been meticulously maintained and I have the service records to back it up, so I was adamant about getting more and we agreed on $4,000. Next we discussed financing and I discovered that if I financed through Kia, I could get an additional $500 off the vehicle. Being a National Guardsman, I also qualify for an additional $500 in cash rebates for service to our country. Things started getting a little rocky when the finance manager came to the desk and said he had made a mistake on the financing offer, so they would be willing to reduce the price of the vehicle to $14,500 in order to compensate. He also asked if I would like to purchase the extended warranty; I declined. The paperwork comes out form the finance office and I begin reviewing and signing documents, one of which was to waive the extended warranty. The sales contract makes it way to the top of the pile and the first number I notice, the price of the vehicle, struck me as a bit odd. Keep in mind I was purchasing the base model Soul with the manual transmission that carries a price tag of $13,900, plus a $750 destination fee. The dealer had already “installed” floor mats for $95, so I figured it was a minor expense and found it acceptable. Mathematics isn’t among the strongest of my skills, but $13,900 + $750 + $95 do not equal or in any way sum up to well over $16,000, but $16,000+ was the base price of my Soul listed as on the sales contract. Not only was the price inflated, but the value of my trade went down to $3,500 and the two incentives for which I qualified for were nowhere to be found. I addressed the trade-in value and the manager commented that it wasn’t worth more than $3,000 and deemed my valuation inaccurate because I’d consulted Kelley and they use the NADA guide. I immediately went online to look up the NADA value and discovered the range was between $3,250 and $5,225. He then claimed that wed never agreed on $4,000 for a trade. He produced the initial offer sheet that reflected $3,500 and insisted that the number was accurate. Luckily he had the folder containing the other documents wed created in the transaction and it did indeed contain a document stating $4,000 to which I had agreed. He then attempted to explain that the $4,000 included one of the incentives that I qualified for, but incentives and financing we brought up long after we’d negotiated the trade-in value. To top everything off, there was an $897 charge on the contract for an extended warranty that I’d declined and just signed the waiver document for not 30 seconds prior! Needless to say, I walked out of the dealership and have no intentions of ever returning. All-in-all it was a very educational experience. I would strongly recommend you take your business elsewhere.

My spouse and I went to Kia Summit in Waterford, MI after being informed that the dealership work with those with problem credit. I spoke with salesman Jack and informed him that I had nine hard inquiries on my credit report and did not want to add more if there would be a problem being approved. Jack informed me that my score of 555 would be fine and that they have got other customers approved with scores in the low 400s with an extra down payment. Jack informed my spouse and I that he would be going through a bank that would help with problem credit. My spouse and I sat at the dealership for over an hour after being informed that I wasnt approved for a brand new vehicle, but would be approved for a used vehicle that was similar in size to the Kia Forte. I informed him this was out of my price range. Jack informed my spouse and I that he would counter offer with the bank. The dealership closed at 7 pm and we continued to wait even after we informed them we would come back at another time and think about proceeding with the used car dealership. I was informed the following day that I was approved for $1600 down with monthly payments between $320 and $350. I was not informed during this process that I would have 15 banks review my credit to receive a loan. I spoke with Kia finance manager Jason and informed him of the situation that occurred. I spoke with Jack and informed him that I had nine inquiries and didnt want to add too many more on my report. Jason informed me that it was nothing he was going to do and I should have known that they would contact multiple banks for problem credit. I informed him Jack reported having one bank review my credit for a new vehicle and an additional bank for a used vehicle. Jason reported I could dispute the claims to the credit report. My concern at this time is Kia is not informing customers of credit inquiries and not listening to customer’s request to limit inquiries for credit approval. I now have a total of 26 hard inquiries due to Kia Summit of Waterford not following my wishes to limit to two bank inquiries for vehicle approval. Kia Summit of Waterford need to verbally inform customers of which banks they are going to contact for credit approval before submitting an inquiry for a vehicle loan.

Somebody has mentioned that this place only cares about sale, not service and I totally agree. YOU DONT WANT TO EXPECT GOOD SERVICE ONCE YOU BOUGHT A CAR FROM HERE! I wanted to have an oil change on my car, and called the service. I had to go through several times of selection(automated) to get to the service, and my phone reached to a voice message. I left a message with asking an appointment(next day morning) for oil change and calling me back, but there was no phone call back. I called again 3.5 hours later, it went to voice message again, and I did the same. No phone call again. The dealer has website that I can arrange a service, I arranged oil change in the morning(7:30 am) of next day on the site, and it was successful. Then I called again and selected operator, but maybe it was too late to talk to operator as it was 5 minutes after 5:00 pm. Next morning(it was Friday), I called the service on the way to the dealer for oil change, and asked if i can get oil changed as I left messages twice yesterday. The person who picked up my call told me to wait, and the call was hung up. Anyway, I drove to the dealer for 20 minutes and got there 7:40 am, and there was one person at the registration. He told me service could start at 8:30 am as technicians would come out that time. Their service hours are from 7:30 am on their website and thats why I went there at the time. On top of this, he said my car could get oil change at 11:00 am, earliest. I gave up with this dealer, and went to another dealer by driving 20 minutes again. I understand they could be busy sometime, but they can communicate, at least, so I dont have to waste my time. It might be OK if you want to buy a car from this dealer, but you dont want to expect good service once you bought one.
