I first must applaud this pet store for not supporting backyard breeders and breeder mills, but rather working with shelters to rescue fine animals who would otherwise be alone or put to sleep. The selection of food and toys is fabulous, and it is the only place in town to get the highest quality food for your pet. This includes grain-free foods and foods that contain no allergens and byproducts. Ive actually saved money as I didnt have to order food online and pay for shipping, and because the food is not mostly filler, I actually have to give my cats less food. The staff is quite helpful and knowledgeable, and those members who are not are not scared to admit it and get another staff member who is more experienced in the area. They do not read scripted prompts to you or boldface lie about safety or nutrition issues. That was very refreshing. Some of the staff, while helpful and knowledgeable, are not as friendly or approachable. It is hard not to be a little put off by their standoffish. Those who are sensitive to social niceties might want to put on thicker skin in this store. They do have a deal for regular customers in the form of a point reward system using a card. It is not a spectacular deal, but it certainly starts working fast. Overall, an excellent store. The only one I go to and the only one I recommend.

This is THE pet store in Portage. In fact you would be hard pressed to find one better in Kalamazoo county. Their selection of fresh and Marine fish is great, health, and properly cared for. The corals are top notch, vibrant, and colorful. They stock good pet food for your wet and dry pets, not that cheap stuff you can buy at Walmart, but actual good for your pet food. Steve will be glad to order things you want if you ask, and they are knowledgeable about their products and pets. If you need you can even secure at home care for your aquarium, or attend a "tank talk" session. Great store, great service, trust me you wont be disappointed.

I went into this store today and no other customers were there. I stood there for 10 minutes waiting for help getting something I couldnt reach...and the only person there was an elderly lady sitting at a folding table who didnt even acknowledge me there. there were two workers but they were in a room behind the counter socializing, and I know they saw me. I go out of my way to help smaller businesses but they arent even thankful for the business! couldnt even say hello or just a minute...I felt like I wasnt supposed to be there.

As a foster home for Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, this is my choice of Pet suppliers. They have always been able to spend time with me and answer my questions. It is a very casual atmosphere and I do not feel rushed when shopping. I was uncomfortable at other suppliers that were busy, I had to wait for someone to come help me etc. This is much more relaxed and I like that. My foster cats are happy and healthy too.

I really want to like this place because its the last non chain fish store in the Kalamazoo area, but there fish selection is just sad lately. if its not reef or african cichlid they wont have it, and wont do special orders. Staff is always great though, prolly will still buy supplies there but, have to go to GR for fish if I want something specific or order the fish online.

great store with very knowledgeable staff. every time i go in there i am greeted nicely and they answer all of my questions. they have a great fish selection including everything from your 10 gallon freshwater beginner setup to everything you need for a fully operational and beautiful marine reef tank. I would highly recommend them to anybody

I finally found a cat food "Grandma Maes" that has taken care of the acne on my male cats chin. He has had this problem for several years and this food is the only thing that has made a difference. Hats off to the staff member that made this recommendation!! Thank you MVP!!

Best pet store ever! Nina is super knowledgeable about the food they sell. She can even tell you if its been recalled ever and for what. Girl knows her stuff. They have awesome Halloween costume parties and a reward system. We love this store and would be lost without it.

Not bad, fish selection use to be better but have some amazing african cichlids, good dog and cat supplies, good fish supplies, carry few products for other pets. Fish are usually healthy! I would shop there and encourage them to bring back the fish selection.

The staff is very friendly. They always answer my questions and give advice. They have a great selection of natural pet foods and products. The feeder program lets you earn free dog food. Another great local business.

Love this place! Great selection of dog and cat food as well as fish. Lots of grain free, and other specialty pet food. Only place I can find the brands my dog eats. Very helpful staff too!

Poor cat selection. Most dry foods contain high amounts of fillers, with little real meat. Id come for the crickets but they often short you on those too.
