I purchased my handgun along with the firearm protection plan at the flint location a little over a year ago service was excellent there not really the reason for this review. The experience that was less than ok was when I needed to have repairs made on that particular handgun. The Utica location is closer to me so I figured that I should have the Experts take a look at the gun since my attempts to remedy the issue werent working. I stop by mid day to drop the gun off and the gun counter sales rep walked up and I told him what was going on and that I wanted to have it looked at by the gunsmith we go through the process and I give him a detailed description of the problem he was tapping away on the keyboard and seemed to be listening and documenting the problem. Two weeks pass by and I was starting to wonder how bad of shape my gun was in. Finally I received a call from the Utica store letting me know that my gun was ready for pick up. Out of curiosity I asked if they were able to figure out why the cam block pin kept falling. His response was not what I expected to hear. He then read what was on the Service Order it said " A pin is missing from the frame near the trigger guard. customer has firearm protection plan." Out of disbelief I asked what was repaired on my gun and he said "they replaced the missing pin". When i dropped the gun off I clearly told him that the lower cam block pin started to slide out of place after approx 5 rounds and that I also had machined a replacement cam block pin identical to the original and that also would not stay in. So this evening I picked up the gun and when I came home I was curious to see what was used as a replacement. Already this entire process was a disappointment but what I found inside was the icing on the cookie. Not only was the pin replaced but it was replaced with nothing near what it should be. The replacement was even more loose than the original and there was not even a chance that it would stay in place after firing it. I am not an engineer, rocket scientist or anything close to that and I even can tell if something isnt right with this. So now what? Obviously the key tapper doesnt really listen and must have been tweeting about the weather because I gave more information than just a pin missing. I am in the service industry myself and when I see something is missing that should be there the next thing is usually figure out why it was missing to begin with. Maybe a phone call to get a few more details? Two weeks no communication product returned fixed but NOT in what I would expect to see from someone who earns a living working on firearms. Apparently the days of quality work, gaining customer loyalty and trust along with Customer satisfaction are growing thin. From my experience thus far the part of the service order that said " customer has firearm protection plan" really meant "Customer spent money and wants free stuff, make it look good and ship it back we dont care unless he is paying again". So now I am back to where I started two weeks ago. Ill spend my money elsewhere thanks. P.S. The retainer spring that holds the lower cam block pin in position is bent out of place and also the eye of the slide lock lever next to where the trigger assembly pivots in the cam block is oblong. The same spring that holds the pin that fell out also operates the slide lock. Ongoing issue solved 4/22- contact store via email that was provided to me along with my contact information I added a more detailed account of the above incident. the wait begins yet again

After several years of discussing handgun ownership with my wife and children we finally did it. On 12/14/2015 one of my sons and I went to the Gander Mountain store in Kentwood MI (#172) and purchased a Smith & Wesson M&P 9. We dont have much experience with hand guns so we just started out explaining why we wanted one and who would be using it. The gentleman who assisted us, I believe his name was Toby, payed very close attention to our explanation, then asked us several questions. After responding to his questions he showed us two guns. He allowed my son and I to handle both weapons at length. The whole time we were in possession of the guns we asked questions that he quickly and thoughtfully answered. After some time we decided on the above mentioned firearm. During the conversation it was stated that both right and left handed people would be using it. One of the handguns we looked at and eventually purchased, in our stated price range was ambidextrous. There were thumb safety levers on either side of the gun. This turned out to be a very welcome feature for my wife who happens to be the left handed shooter in our family. I would have never thought about this had Toby not mentioned it to us. Toby answered several questions about what type of ammo was best and he made ammo recommendations based upon the different shooting conditions and situations. He recommended a high quality, clean firing lower costing ammo for target practice. When another of my sons and I came in to pick up our hand gun Trent helped us efficiently complete some paperwork and helped us select a cleaning kit, trigger lock and lock box for storing the gun. All in all a very comfortable and educational experience. We inquired about a rifle and a shot gun we were interested in purchasing and Trent was very knowledgeable about both. All in all the whole experience was very comfortable, we were encouraged to handle any firearm we wanted to and all our questions were responded to with very understandable responses. We do intend to purchase additional guns in the near future and we will without a doubt return to your Gander Mountain store because of the treatment shown to us by your staff.

Paul helped me out at the gun counter with my purchase of my Remington 700 .223. Paul was super helpful and even told me about another company that sold the same gun for a much lower price! I was sold on his product simply because of his honestly and his willingness to go the extra mile to find me an alternative price! I have since then returned to this location and purchased another firearm! After purchasing a Rifle I wanted just days ago, I decided to take a trip back to Gander Mountain and looking at another Remington 700, this time in .308. I had the pleasure of dealing with Trent. After having no success with having the rifle I wanted in stock, I took the "floor model". I tried to haggle with Trent for a discount but he was not able to budge on the price. I took the rifle anyway! Trent however, went the extra mile to give me a deal on a Nikon Optic for my rifle and even threw in free mounting and boresight! Trent was a very nice guy to deal with and was very friendly. He even informed my that a scope I had purchased online was in his store for a lower price! My experience with the staff at this Gander Mountain was beyond exceptional. The staff is very friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. I will always recommend this Gander Mountain location to friends and family, knowing that there best interest are in good hands.
