I have been living in the Dothan area for quite some time now and love having a Gander here. However, I will no longer shop at a Gander because of the recent experience I had with the manager at this store. I will start off by saying I did not go to Gander to purchase an item, but rather to hopefully enlist their help for a charity event in the Dothan area. I am also an Active duty soldier stationed in AL and have been blessed to experience the support of the local community and just how much they support Veterans. Normally I would be in civilian clothes when out and about, but I wanted to take advantage of the day since I got off early. So, I headed to Gander in my military uniform. I asked a sale-person to ring a manger for me and stated the reason for my business. I waited patiently for a manger to arrive, as she approached me she had a box under one arm and a piece of paper in the other. I approached her with an extended hand to introduce myself. She ended up having to switch the paper to her other hand in order to greet me. Her reply wasnt "Hello how are you? Welcome to Gander, How can I help you?" It was, "You need to call this number" and stuck the paper out. I didnt even have a chance to explain discuss or say thank you as she proceeded to tell me that corporate handles all charity & raffle events. I tried to ask about hanging an info sign for a local charity event and she completely brushed me off with, "You need to call this number." After that she handed me the number and she was on her way. Now I completely understand corporate being in charge of decisions like these. I dont have an issue with that at all. Everyone in life is told no at some point, its not a big deal. Many people dont have the authority to make decisions, but you get over it. What is a big deal though, is the lack of tact this manger used with me. Im by no means asking for parades and ceremonies because I wear a uniform, but what I wont stand for is when someone doesnt even give me the time of day or the mutual respect I demonstrate to them. If I extend my hand in greeting you dont give me a piece of paper and move along your way. You shake it, listen attentively, and then apologize that you cant assist. When a manger of a large scale store treats a uniformed soldier the way I was treated I put my foot down. I have never felt so blown off in my life as I did at this Gander Mountain. My not shopping there is my choice and they wont loose any sleep over it, but I will spread the word to my fellow veterans that Gander lacks tact, professionalism, and courtesy. Hopefully thats enough to stop a few from going and possibly receiving the same treatment that I did.

I went to buy a specific rifle, added a scope and the ammo. Worth almost $700.00. At checkout it took two people. plus they kept being interrupted to help another employee do his job. Then my background check is delayed. I did not understand why, and explained that I had a concealed carry permit, former military clearance, and had bought pistols within a year with no problem. I left went to my class at the college came back and was told by the employee that was having problems doing his job, and was having problems again with another customer that even if it had come back from the delay that it was Gander Mountain policy that I would have to wait for eight (8) days to get the rifle. I asked for a refund. The person who gave me the refund was the person who sold the rifle to me and said if it came back the next day I could have it the next day. I told them both to give me my money that I would have a rifle by the weekend and citing it in. They told me if they could not get me clear there I would not clear anywhere else. That was on Monday. On Tuesday, I went to Hardens Gun Shop in Newton, where I should have went in the first place, because that is where I live. They ordered my gun, it arrived Friday. When I picked it up Saturday morning they did the background check and it went through within a matter of a minute. Not to mention because I have a concealed permit I would not have had to have done it. I will not ever shop here again. I have three brothers that use to shop here a lot for not only hunting but fishing (as did I), I will also let all of my friends and fellow veterans and college students know not to shop here due to their unprofessionalism.

Visiting the area from Maryland where gun laws are very restrictive. It was awesome to see such a HUGE selection not only of firearms but of accessories and other cool items relative to shooting sports. My interactions with the staff were fairly limited but I was sought out and asked if I had any questions. Checkout was pleasant as well. I would definitely recommend this place for the gun enthusiast! Open a store in MD!

Advertise items for a four day sale. Sell out before first day of Sale is completed. No rain checks available. This tactic causes Customers to shop elsewhere. Your personnel should know That. A 9MM compact pistol at half price will get results but Makes customers angry when they are duped by false advertisements. You should honor your sales price. Show some accountability.

My son purchased a pistol today and paid for it and they said he cant get the gun or his money back. The sales geek did not check the paper work and the address was not correct as his drivers license. Also they will not take gift cards since they are going business. They just stole more money. Alabama gun control will be involved in there b.s.

Great place to check out camping, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor items and then go buy them on Amazon because Gander Mountain is overpriced. Occasionally theyll have a clearance item or two that is less than Amazon (shoes mostly), but most clearance stuff is still overpriced compared to online. Gun selection is excellent though.

Visited the one in Dothan Alabama yesterday. The big sign on the building said closing everything discounted ....after walking around in the store I noticed a trend . Yes the prices were marked down but only after inflating them first. The sale price was worse then the regular price at Academy Sports right down the road. Hmmm

I was very happy when Dothan got Gander Mountain since I hike and camp a lot. Now not so much. Their products are great but their prices are high. Ive never had any issues finding anything there so really nothing negative other than theyre high. Not really an issue anymore since they are going out of business.

The store is suppose to stay open from 9am to 9 pm. However my husband and I come to the store at 8:40 and they are pulling down the doors and closing ... you need to change store hours if your not going to stay open Bad for business
