This is the best store in the world. I have never been to a place that takes care of their customers the way they do. I bought a pair of hiking shoes about 8 months ago The sole on one of the shoes came loose but I didnt think much about it; I really liked the shoes. The next time I went back to the store I looked for the same shoes. I told the sales person what happened. Surprise -- he told me they would replace the shoes. I didnt think anyone would do that. We also found out that my shoes are no longer being made. He gave me 100% store credit for my old shoes and was really nice to me in the process. I find that J & H Outdoors is a little high on their prices but for the quality of customer service I got it is well worth it. I wont buy from another store again. This is now my favorite outdoor store. They went way above what I expected -- on a scale of 1 to 10 they get a 12 -- 100% satisfaction on service and quality of merchandise. Thanks J & H, Ill be back again and again.

My first experience with J&H was whenever I was wanting to purchase Chaco sandals. I went in the store and was so shocked at the amount of items they have! From soooo many different brands. Ever since I (my boyfriend) bought the Chacos, I have went in there almost every time we have went to Lexington (which is QUITE often)! I am a huge Patagonia fan and they have the best selection with amazing prices!!! They had deals from 20-50% off of Patagonia items! Which definitely does not happen often! The customer service is fantastic. Very nice, clean, genuine people work there! You can tell they definitely do not work there for just the money, but they also have a "adventurous" side to them as well. Such sweet people and an amazing store!!!

Very happy to find this store -- no thanks to Google suggestions. We were looking for Birkenstock sndals and the Google recommendation closed before we were able to leave the Fayette mall. So we checked out the Birkenstock site and found J & H. We called to be sure they had Birkenstocks and to be sure they were open. The person on the phone told us how to get there and that they did have a good inventory. Well, when we walked in -- Wow somewhat like REI but seemed less cluttered and had more things I was interested in. The Birkenstock quest gave way to another brand and the person shopping for those was very happy. Nice folks in the store. Neat stuff.

Ive shopped there for years and fell in love with the quality of the products. I dont think anything Ive bought has ever worn out. The staff is consistently engaging, knowledgeable and genuine. Just the right touch. The thoughtful way they interact with the community is also appreciated. A woman who lost her husband to cancer had a community book box taken and they jumped in with a reward immediately. Everything worked out, but its just another example of a great local biz. Great products + great people!

Im embarrassed to say it, but yesterday was my first visit to J & H. What a jewel of a store. I was warmly welcomed to a comfortable and inviting store, then assisted by Gen. Mgr. Brett Tweeten for questions about kayaks. Unlike so many of the box stores and franchises, Brett knows his product, and he knows how to communicate. Their customer service is unsurpassed. I went to J and H for the first time the other day to purchase my first pair of climbing shoes. Not only did they have great prices their staff was incredibly helpful, letting me try on almost every shoe they had (sometimes in multiple sizes per shoe) over the span of what must have been an hour! I highly recommend J and H and specifically the very knowledgable, Aaron, for any rock climbing needs!

I love their clothing & shoes, great sales, used to get most all my climbing equipment there ... very friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable staff re their most extensive equipment for your outdoor needs in camping, hiking, and rock climbing/bouldering needs, as most do the activities themselves. One of my favorite long standing stores still thriving today!

Im going on my first backpacking trip soon and needed to find a good, dependable, cost efficient pack for my trip. The guy in the pack section was super helpful in explaining features to me and recommended a great product. He measured me and gave me the run down on all the compartments. This store has absolutely the best customer service. The staff is knowledgeable and honest in their recommendations. If you have a problem with anything you purchase, they will take care of sending the product back to the manufacturer for you. It pays to buy local and J & H is the greatest!

1 Star too Many. Terrible Return Policy. New item with all tags, packaging and the original receipt is not even good enough for a store credit. Clerk even had to verify with the manager. What a shame, I drove from Northern KY to visit this store after finding them online. Never again.

I come here for the set up. If you need shoes, hammocks, packs or sleeping bags, theyve got you. Sickest selection of Patagonia hats and clothing Ive seen around. Really nice and friendly people run this place and I love going in every time.

The employees are friendly and helpful. They helped my dad and I get started with climbing gear and suggested great beginner shoes and harnesses. Their prices are the same as Amazon for most items as well which makes things inexpensive.
