I absolutely believe in cloth diapering and safe, sustainable items to live a healthy life. I love, love, love the items that are sold at Modern Natural Baby, but I am completely put off by the owner and her interactions with customers. I have tried on numerous occasions to spend my money locally at her store and I have decided to give up on this. I will now exclusively buy my diapering items online from stores that provide better customer service like Kellys Closet and Nickis Diapers. Today was my last and final attempt to engage the owner at this store. I had my hands full of items to purchase, was asked by her assistant if I needed any help, asked a question and between monosyllabic answers felt like I was getting "attitude" from the owner. Remember her assistant asked me, was unable to answer, looked to her for help, she was put out to do so. I have made large purchases in the past, had $60 worth of items in my hands, have brought friends in who have also spent big money and have found that the owner has consistently acted put out to answer questions or to even act courteous. I am not looking for a new best friend or to be gushed over, I just expect some amount of customer service. (Someone wrangles three little kids in to your store on a cold wet day and spends $150, it wouldnt hurt if you said thanks for stopping by, come again soon. Have a nice day, etc.) Did I pick the wrong brand of cloth diapers? A bad pattern for my wetbag? Am I seriously the first person who has asked about eliminating the ammonia smell in diapers? (I cant be according to my online searches and the different products sold for said problem. Why am a paying customer left to feel like Ive put the owner of the store out when I am making purchases?) I honestly dont know what it is but I have made purchases at this store for almost two years now and have always felt an unwelcoming vibe from the owner, to the point that I am now not comfortable spending my money there. (I took the diapering class there too by the way and participated in the great diaper change there too- but the owner never acknowledges previous interactions. Ive had less interaction with the oil change guys and they make an effort to make me feel like they value my patronage.) I honestly dont know what her ideal customer is since I am a mother of several children in cloth diapers (with plans for more), with the means and the desire to spend what it takes to keep my children healthy and happy, yet she doesnt seem to want my business. Ah well. Online ordering here I come.

Very nice selection of quality and VERY cute baby gear and essentials without being overwhelming like huge chain stores. They even have those fun hand puppets which I think I need to buy for my husband as he was very nostalgic about them ha Owner John and his staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Might be a bit pricier than the chain stores, but they carry higher end items that you wont find at the big stores and have obviously hand picked some of the best items available on the market that you dont have to worry about researching since theyve done it for you. In fact, I compared some of the pricing with big box stores and they were no different. Since I live on the other side of the state I rely on their online site which hand quite a few items out of stock or the color I wanted. I think (hope) I can call and order it though. You also receive good advice from experienced parents and help support local business which is great. They have a baby registry and ship free for items over a certain amount so you cant beat it!

I drive quite a distance to come to this store, it always seems when I come on a Saturday the road is always closed for some sort of event. ( Im not from the area) No big deal I just park really far away and walk really far so I can be greeted by a HUGE wall of fluffy cloth diaper goodness! Ive had Ok service here, one day the lady working there wasnt very friendly and didnt talk to me at all until I was checking out. The other time I was here the service was much more pleasant and the lady said she was glad to see I had my son properly restrained in his car seat(lol). Anyways I also got some awesome deals both times and I loved looking at all the Tulas and jujube products. They have a HUGE selection and a play area for the kids while you shop. Very nice, wish you guys were closer to me, but for now I visit whenever Im in the area for doctor appointments.

Ive been going here since my first child - 3 years ago and the staff is way more friendly now than before. Im not sure who the lady with dark hair is - but her aura is very off. I though I knew about healing beads when she asked me and she gave off a "annoyed" attitude about me not knowing anything about it :( later while she was carrying a her sleeping child in a carrier, when my kid made a peep-she shush her! Other than that lady, the store is amazing, and has a wonderful selection of toys/accessories/cloth diapers. I also like the point system as well ^_^

They have got THE biggest selection of cloths out of any store in the whole southeastern MI area! The owner is so knowledgeable and extremely patient and nice. The accessory product selection is pretty great too. The prices are very compatible with what youd find online so why not support local. I know this sounds like an advertisement but once I discovered this store- I was totally hooked! There was also a great childs play area which completely amused my son while I was shopping. All in all- 5 stars all around for this little Ferndale jem!

I visited the store today to get my hands on the Nuna line of baby gear. John, one of the stores owners, took special care to explain all the products I had questions about, help me compare them to other brands, and suggest alternative options for outfitting my first baby. His knowledge and enthusiasm were so appreciated. I am in the process now of changing over my registry items to support this business- oh thats right, they are a local business too!! Great service, beautiful store, wonderful experience!

Staff is great. Products are great. There is a train table and play area in the back. Changing table in the bathroom area. Theres also a points program after spending a bit, a certain percent comes back in the form of a gift certificate after a year, I believe.
