I live nearby Economy Hardware and go there all the time for purchasing every day things. They might be pricier than Home Depot (which is a couple miles down the road), but I am paying for the convenience of having Economy Hardware downstairs. Their service is amazing - I very much appreciate seeing the same people every time I walk in and I love how approachable and knowledgeable everyone is. I am not expecting high-quality furniture or incredible bargains - they are after all a hardware store located on the edge of Back Bay. But I do expect quality, brand-name hardware tools and supplies at a price premium comparable to other stores nearby in the Back Bay area. This store satisfies my needs perfectly.

ok so ive been here multiple times and the prices are ok home depot is cheaper i come because its convenient and closer then south bay mall. But the really funny thing is the customer service is way better, in my experience at home depot. I have managed retail stores in the past and the things that bother me most is lazy or careless employees. like i said previously i visit there location 20+ times a year. I might have been greeted once and helped only if i asked for help. dont get me wrong sometimes they have good service just not when i show up. So be aware the staff wont help unless you ask them. they look like college students so im sure there trying to finish the shift and get out!

In the last 19 year, Ive been to this store, on average, once every 2 months; I buy things for work and for home. The floor clerks are great, and are always asking to help you. The merchandise is good, sometimes not great quality (as stated by others, caters to mainly college students). Sometimes the cashiers are spacey, but thats the worst I can say about them. They have a fair amount of unfinished furniture, which sometimes seems overpriced for the quality. Best bet is, some time near the beginning of a college semester, get one of the college discount books and find the coupon that gives you 10 or 15% off an entire purchase at this store.

Reasons to go to small businesses like Economy Hardware: convenience, customer service, walkability, keep 80% of their revenue in the local economy Reasons to go to big box stores like Home Depot: product selection, lower prices Economies of scale dictate that you cant expect the same bargains at a store like this that youd expect at a place like Home Depot. I, for one, go to a store like because theyre headquartered nearby, are accessible by mass transit, and theyre prices arent really that high.

Its a moderately sized urban hardware store. Prices arent great but theyre not gouging either, merely fair. Only a few blocks from the green line, which is a plus. A few more kitchen gadgets and fewer power tools than Id expect, but otherwise run-of-the-mill. Staff seemed friendly enough but I didnt need any help so I cant comment on their expertise. In short, its fine.

Sure, everything costs more than it does at the chains, but for those of us who need a dustpan, or a balloon whisk, or knobs for the kitchen drawers and dont want to (or cant) extract the car for the job, its really nice to have the super-sweet staff, mostly 20-somethings, tell you where to find it, and make checking out a pleasant experience. They always have a great selection of products here. I came to get a folding chair yesterday, and not only did they have your normal wooden ones, but they had a nice padded sort of armchair one that I really liked, too. I have been coming here for years for this reason. They also have very knowledgeable, helpful employees.

If you enjoy wondering lost around a store while the huge staff of employees completely ignore you then I recommend losing time here. Or if you feel your life is lacking some 22 year old gossip then they can happily accommodate you. If you need anything of actual use then please steer clear.

Stopped by Saturday night (8/5). I found a $6 3 inch diameter wooden stick for a bike project but needed it cut in 3 pieces. They were gonna charge me $2 per cut. So $6 for the stick itself and $6 for 3 small cuts. Ridiculous. I just went to Home Depot instead, where the cuts were free.

This place is the bomb when it comes to moving day. I can always count on them to have all the things I need, whether it be lights, nails, screws, paint or anything else I might be looking for. They also make copies of keys for all of you moving or subletting your apartment.

Prices are okay, but still meh. Good people, but one particular manager is with no integrity, not to coworkers or customers.. of course depending on the rising of the situation. People of own self absorbed motives... sigh. What can you do, people like this do exist. 1 Love

This store has lots of the random things you need and tons of stuff that you didnt know you needed. Its a little on the higher price end of the spectrum but definitely worth walking through for staples and fun odds and ends.

Decent selection. Great if you need some last-minute supplies for a home project. Like many stores in the neighborhood, they stock general housing needs and dorm supplies. The staff is not the most knowledgable.

Seems like everyone is kind of bashing on the helpfulness of the staff but the one time I actually needed help with something the guy did a really good job. Guess it depends whos working

There isnt too much hardware at this hardware store. They seem to specialize in cheap home items for students, like an economy version of bed, bath, and beyond.

I think the staff actually TRIES to make you feel uncomfortable and bothersome here. But they always have what I need and theyre close to school sooo

There is everything you need for works in house and even more, problem is that this place is expansive, but anyway its good.

True Value usually has what we need in stock. The prices are a little higher than at other stores or online.
