The only reason I use this store is because its right next door to my workplace. If there were ANY other alternatives, I would not choose to shop here. The checkout service is one of the worst out of any supermarket Ive been to, including other Safeways. I usually stop by at noon for lunch, or to grab a drink. Theres no self-checkout so waiting in line for a cashier is the only option. 9 times out of 10, there are only 2 cashiers working, one in regular and one in express. They are slow to scan items, count money and love to waste time chatting with other customers and each other. Whats worse, I see cashiers strolling around in the back doing god-knows-what; they only seem to work when they feel like it. Meanwhile the checkout line gets longer and longer, sometimes even reaching halfway down an aisle. The longest Ive waited was 20 minutes for a can of Monster. Not even Costco has such ridiculous wait times. Apart from the dreadful service, the produce section is pretty low quality. Fruits look like theyve been sitting on the shelf for a week. Vegetables arent any better - I use green onions a lot in my cooking, and Id love to restock at Safeway before heading home, but all the green onions here look like theyve been flash-frozen and then run over by a truck. When this place first opened in 2016, I was excited to have a supermarket so close to work. But after the first month of opening, service has gone dramatically downhill. Now I loathe shopping at the place because I know Ill have to deal with the terrible checkout line. Ive completely stopped getting lunch here, despite it being cheaper than going to the surrounding restaurants. I do after-work grocery shopping at a nearby Latino market or Wholefoods instead, even though its a bit of a drive. And I foresee itll stay this way unless customer service and produce selection take a drastic leap forward.

Cashier, short light skinned with spots all over her face and dreadlocks made an attempt to transfer frustrations onto me. She decided it was okay to bully me, a disabled woman sitting on the scooter and not close enough to put my items on the belt, into putting items on belt knowing I was not close enough to reach it. She yelled at me for no reason and was quite indignant, rude, and ignorant lacking a single hair of interpersonal skills. You get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Im guessing she was the last to know and did not get the memo on customer service and ethics. She even had the audacity to call security for no reason and tell me that I could get out of her line if I couldnt do what she said. I think she took my disability for a weakness as I was the ONLY customer she talked to in such a manner. She even went so far as to ask me if I was trying to be special or something and then yelled "You aint special!!". Security, with the Bob hairstyle, was nice enough to help by placing my two (2) items on the belt. The cashiers attitude toward me was unnecessary. Plus, I could have been out of that store had she not messed up the transaction of the customer ahead of me trying to engage me in mindless banter. Im guessing her feelings were hurt since I disengaged her and made it clear that I dont do other peoples foolish drama. Im firm on my standpoint that buying groceries should not be a traumatic experience fueled by what is clearly personal aggression that she could not transfer successfully. #RespectYourElders #TheDisabledArePeopleToo #NewtonsLaw

I love this Safeway and frequent it regularly since its opening in summer 16. The employees are always helpful & friendly.... that is until today. My husband went in at 1:15 to pick up a western union sent for my 4 year old daughter. Her aunt sent her money so we could take her to the National Aquarium. The gentleman working told him he was supposed to be off work at 1 and refused to help him, sending him across the street to Giant. Unacceptable. I work in customer service as a manager, and understand that there are times you feel like this, but you do not treat customers like that, or tell them your personal problems. You do your job. Very inconvenient for us, but we will return bc I understand the nature of the business.

This Safeway is a great addition to the neighborhood after the old Hyattsville Safeway on Hamilton Street closed several years ago. Its design is much more urban than most other grocery stores, with garage parking in lieu of a sprawling surface lot, and two entrances that feed onto a pedestrian-friendly sidewalk. Located near the Prince Georges Plaza Metro station, its a great walkable grocery store with good prices and variety. Does it get busy at peak times (after work and on Sunday afternoons/evenings)? Of course it does, but so do most grocery stores. And like many a Trader Joes, even when the express line is snaking for what seems like an eternity, it generally moves pretty quickly.

Its a nice and clean store. However Im more likely to go across the street to Giant or anywhere else because of the lines here. EVERYTIME! The line is wrapping around aisles. If youre so understaffed, close down. With all the competing grocery stores around, waiting in those ridiculous lines here no longer make sense. Theres Yes Organic, Whole Foods, Giant, Target, Megamart and Bestway all within a 3 mile radius. So get it together.

Bright store, good selection! A star off for each of two things: if youre going to do away with automated checkout please consider manning more cash registers, and it would be lovely if youd station someone by the parking garage exits to explain to the technologically-disinclined how to scan their garage tickets (preventing huge backups to exit).

Best supermarket in the Prince George Plaza neighborhood. A wide selection with the most reliable fresh produce outside of the farmers market.

This store is very clean and has a pretty good selection, but the lines are always insanely long. They need to hire more check out people.

The parking garage ran out of tickets about 1:30 pm. Older woman couldnt park. I have had a great experience at this store, however.
