These guys are only a few miles from Home Depot... If its a situation where I dont know what I need or how to fix the problem I always choose Clarks. If it absolutely, positively has to work, its Clarks. Service is attentive from the minute you walk in the store. If you decide to browse for a while first, you can always find someone to help you, no chasing down an assistant, only to find out that you need to go 47 aisles to track down "the guy with the apron and the red baseball hat." The best part is they always seem to understand the problem and how to fix it. Going here saves me a lot of time, and the prices really arent any different than the big box when push comes to shove. Prices on my Weber grills, Toro mower, etc were no higher, but I got much better advice on what to choose than just reading boxes and inventory tags dangling from the handle. There arent as many brand choices as a big box, so if youre looking for a bargain item (like a cheap mower), youll have more to choose from in a box, but little to no informed advice (as opposed to superficial recommendations with little experience behind it).i I dont exclusively shop here - they dont have as broad of a selection as the box, but its decent, and they have all of the necessities. Heres an experience I had from Clarks. I bought a Vermont gas stove for installation in my basement. It was installed impeccably. The gas company had just brought a gas line to my house, and the stove needed a snorkle since my previously all electric ouse had no chimney. When the gas company brought the line to the house, they inadvertently moved my splash block and didnt put it back. Subsequently, a season of rains and snows resulted in channeled water by the splashblock into the snorkle well. After a particularly bad storm, I had a puddle of water, a rusty stove, and a ruined stove pad. When I called Clarks, they were very concerned. Andy Clark came out along with the installer, and made the promise to make it all right. The result was that everything was put back to new condition, no questions asked, and I was chagrined to discover that it wasnt even their fault when he showed me the splash block was aimed right at the snorkel. Clark wouldnt have any of that. his attitude was that if it was installed perfectly, even the gas company couldnt have screwed it up. The reason I gave this 5 stars is because, due to the litany of experiences I have had, there is no place I would trust with critical repair questions or big purchases that have to last me a long time (grills, mowers, stoves, etc.), Clarks is a no brainer. Im not going to ding them for something they dont try to be - a bulk commdity supplier, or a place where you can look at twenty table saws. Dont get me wrong - Its a 40,000 sq ft store, just not as big as the warehouse hardware stores.

OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT! BLOWS HOME DEPOT AWAY!!! Ask a question from an employee, they know where to find it! Ask how to work with it? They tell you how it works! Dont get that from Home Depot. I remember when Home Depot was coming rumored. I told Andy Clark and said he should consider selling before they put him out of business. He said there are loyal customers that would keep him afloat. THANK GOD HE DID! Years later, the Home Depot is a JOKE! With kids in the isles, older adults that can barely speak english or understand them and when you ask how something works or where it is, they dont know. If they do know where something is by rare chance, they pick up the box and begin reading the instructions. Heck, I can do that myself! THANK THE LORD JESUS Andy Clark is still around with his hardware store. When I need to find something unique or that I need real help with, I dont bother with Home Depot. I go to Clarks! They help me find what it is I need, and know how to explain to me to do what it is I need to do on any project. Sometimes his price on some things are maybe a $1 to .50 cents higher like say on Spray paint, but he has spray paints that Home Depot dont carry like Epoxy paint! And when you walk into Home Depot, sometimes I havent been able to find an employee for as many as 17 isles! Walk into Clarks and there are ten people there at the front asking if they can help you! TOTAL DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE over Home Depot when you have to walk around for ten minutes and finally ask the person to call their manager on duty because the person doesnt know their own department! Had to do that several times! True stories! Spent 30 minutes trying to get someone in Plumbing to help me one time and not one person in the store knew a thing about plumbing! I had to leave and go to Clarks to get my answer! Same for paint and hardware. Spent 17 minutes trying to find a person in hardware once until I finally had to go to the service desk to get a Home Depot store manager to help me! And I dont have to buy a whole package of screws from Home Depot for $1.25 when I only need one .12 cent screw! And nothing takes the place of asking someone in Clarks hardware where something is and the person walks you right to it on the shelf rather than the person at Home Depot that looks at me like a dunce when I ask them were something is in their OWN DEPARTMENT theyre assigned to and they tell me, "IM NOT SURE!" Well Hello Not Sure! My name is Shawn Kelley! And Im going to CLARKS!

Been going to Clarks Ace Hardware for about 25 years (of the 171 years they have been in business!). Their prices are sometimes slightly higher than a big box store, but that is not important. What is important is their service and interest in making sure you get the job done. Not only do they have the odd singular part that you wont be able to find anywhere else in th universe, they will tell you how to prepare it, how to install it and what to do if things dont go right. Sometimes they lend you specialty tools if you need them. They can come up with 8d cement coated box nails if you need them. They can help you refurbish your grill burners or explain why you dont need a 30" snowblower for a 20 driveway. They dont gouge you on the price of rock salt after a big snow. They can tell you whether you have the right plumbing part or not by what subdivision you live in. As one reviewer noted, not everybody there knows everything about each item. But there is always somebody working in the store that does know what you need and can answer your question. The service desk managers are very knowledgeable. The plant lady is great. The paint people are on top of their game. The MODs are can help you with any number of decisions based on both knowledge and experience. In reality, Clarks never had anything to fear from the big box stores moving in. They provide a service and knowledge base that no one else can match. I expect that they will be around for another 171 years and, as long as Im around, theyll have my business.
