My Frigidaire stacking washing machine was making a very loud squeaking sound when laundry was on the spin cycle. It was working fine otherwise, but the squeak had been going on for several months. So two weeks ago I called Apple and a young man named Craig came out. He was prompt and friendly. After listening for about 2 minutes to the machine spin while empty--which did not generate the sound--it sounded totally fine spinning empty--he pronounced that I had a "bad bottom bearing" and that the machine was not worth fixing. He said I would have to replace the washing machine. The whole thing took about ten minutes. I paid my $39.50 for the service call and he left. I researched on my own, and that weekend, I tried listening carefully while doing laundry, to see if I could determine if the sound came from the bottom of the machine. I was surprised to find that the noise seemed to be coming from the middle of the stacking units. While the machine was still spinning and squeaking, I gently pulled the units out from the wall about two inches, and the sound disappeared. The problem all along was that over time, the stacking units had moved slightly backward until the top of the unit (dryer) was flush against the wall, but the bottom unit (washer) was not. So when the washer was spinning with clothes in it, the slight movement between the units was creating the loud screechy squeak. I was very relieved to figure this out, since it meant I would not have to spend $1200 or more to replace the units, but I was also not very pleased at the wrong diagnosis from Apple. I called and talked to someone else at Apple after making my discovery. (I didn’t catch his name.) He admitted that it sounded like Craig had jumped to the wrong conclusion. He said Craig would call me back and come back out and see the machine again. (This part didn’t actually make sense to me. Since Craig had not reproduced the noise the first time, he didn’t hear anything. And if he came back, he would also not hear anything.) But at any rate, the man at Apple said I would receive a refund of the service call fee if a mistake had been made. That was a week ago. I have received no return call. And no refund. I think if Craig had taken the time to actually reproduce the sound, he would have seen that it was not the sound that he assumed was the problem. Instead he made a snap judgment that could have cost me well over a thousand dollars. Added to this is my disappointment at the company’s unwillingness to take responsibility for the mistake and at least make it right by refunding what I paid for the wrong diagnosis. Given this experience, I would not recommend using this company’s services.

They came and fixed our washer. They even came the same day we called and arrived within the time frame scheduled. The mechanic quickly diagnosed and repaired the issue. Our only issue was the cost. Our mechanic was in our home less than 20 minutes but the labor charge was nearly $70. We were informed on the phone during scheduling that the company keeps labor costs down by charging a $40ish fee for assessment and diagnosis but it really does not seem that we experienced any savings. Overall we spent nearly $200 for 20 minutes of work (the part was $83) and that seems to be a little excessive.

Craig, the owner of Apple Appliance will rip you off. I hired him to replace a compressor in a draft beer box. Charged me more than $900 for 3 hours labor and a compressor that cost less than $300. 14 months later the compressor failed. The company I turned to to repair this work charged only $445. Do not use Apple Appliance and Craig as he will take advantage of your lack of knowledge to overcharge you.
