I like shopping at Costco for certain things that are more cost effective. The employees here are generally helpful and try to get people through the lines as quickly as they can. But this location has become exponentially busy since Costco has started taking Visa. I spend more time standing in line than I do shopping. There are times when the lines are halfway through the store even with every register open. If you have anything cold or frozen in your cart, bring a cooler or by the time you get home everything will be partially thawed. And forget about bringing your small children shopping with you. It will be like torture for all involved. They need to open a second Costco in the Des Moines area to off set the increased business or they are going to just start losing customers. I personally have significantly decreased my shopping there just to avoid the crowds. I now will only shop at their least busy time of the week and will only go there for things I cant get anywhere else. I love their coffee and the Jones brand frozen breakfast sausages they sell. Thats pretty much all I buy there anymore. I would buy most of my groceries there if I didnt have to battle the lines.

We are new members - today my wife went to get membership cards, and the associate who assisted wanted to hard sell an executive card option. After repeated nos he decides to point at my son and say I bet he eats alot - as if shaming my 10 year old son is going to change her mind. To give some background my son isnt obese, and its possible he meant no harm, but lately he has been feeling very self conscious about his weight after realizing he weighs too much to run the ball this season in football, and has been choosing salads at dinner, and I know this was very hurtful to him. Maybe the comment wasnt meant to do any harm, but I think your associates need to be trained to learn to take no for an answer, especially when its a mother carting three kids, one of whom is in a car seat, and to be careful what they say. I understand its only one employee, and Im sure not representative of the company, or rest of the staff, but the impact of this experience leaves me with no desire to come back - Ill be canceling my membership.

Costco is one of my favorite places. The employees are extremely nice, this is likely because Costco treats their employees incredibly well (Google it). Lines always seem long, since they usually only have 4-6 lanes open. They double team each register though, so the wait isnt long! I hold both a Sams Club membership and a Costco Executive membership. I look at them more as complementary of one another, rather than substitutes. Youre buying a larger quantity, which usually results in a lower price per item/ounce... than the grocery store, but NOT always. Costco has really good return policies if you arent satisfied with something youve purchased. Its definitely a good place to check out for other items besides the obvious, food. Pharmacy, Eye Care, Hearing Center, Travel, Tires, Gas, Auto Purchase Program, Bakery... The list just goes on and on. Costcos Kirkland brand also co-brands with many major brands to offer a larger quantity at a lower price, which is always welcomed by me!

Our family has had a Costco membership for 4 years and have always enjoyed shopping at Costco until our last visit. My photo was not on our card, however my name is and I am on our account. The first manager I spoke to was extremely rude. After asking to speak to HER manager, I was again treated very rudely. The situation quickly escalated. I have worked in customer service and have been a business owner in the last past 10 years and I have NEVER witnessed a manager treat a customer this way, EVER! Two friends that were with me also agreed that they have never seen a manager of any type treat a customer in the way I was. That being said, we will be contacting corporate and cancelling our membership. Our family will not do business with a company who handles their customers in the way that they did. We will gladly be switching to Sams Club over this ordeal!

I use Costco to stock many bulk items...honey, maple syrup, frozen blueberries, Cheddar cheese, frozen organic green beans, pecans, walnuts, olive oil, yogurt. I could name a lot more. I get the items at Costco because of the quality of the products and/or price. It has been more than worth it to be an Executive member. I have an American Express. My purchases over the year on this card pay for my Costco membership, plus I have extra cash to spend at the end of the year. American Express doesnt cost me a thing. I pay the total bill when it comes due. Ive always had great costumer service and only once had a problem with an employee. Im never saw her again, so maybe Costco chose to get rid of her.

Needed 4 tires. I called ahead and the guy on the phone said he had what I needed ($180 a tire Michelin). When I got to the store 30 minutes after I called, I was told that they were sold out of the tires. I find that hard to believe and when I challenge them for proof the guy started smiling as if I busted him. My gut tells me I was lied too. If they would have been honest with me or showed me what was sold in that 30 minute span, I would have a better understanding and ordered the tires. Trust but verify. Instead, Im getting 4 tires at Firestone in Urbandale right now. They had a better tire and it was less money by $21 a tire and 65k tread warranty. They are professional.

Customer service is terrible. Purchased a tv and part of the display is bad. Called to see if anymore were in stock to just swap it out. First person was very annoyed that they were having to answer the phone. Let out a very loud sigh and put me on hold. She then transferred me to someone who had no idea what I needed because she couldnt be bothered to warm transfer me. This guy had no idea if they had anymore of these in stock. I asked if he could check and his response was "we really should have them, so just come on in". Im returning this tv and going elsewhere. Ill spend more money to avoid this place.

I had someone ask me the other day, my opinion on which membership was better, Sams Club or Costco since we use both. Sams Gas, most of the time is cheaper in price than Costco and we found that most of your staple foods like frozen vegetables are not available at Costcos since Costco is a specialty store and does not carry everything like Sams Club. But Kirklands toilet paper and laundry detergent is more affordable without sacrificing quality. We found it difficult to only have one membership since we enjoy the benefits of both.
