We brought our 2 Bichon Frises for a hair cut (not a problem, as they have been groomed professionally before). They are very well behaved, the Wholesome Pet groomer, after giving them a haircut, even complimented their well behavior. Once we picked them up, they were completely bald and on our way home we realized Wholesome Pet Essentials over charged us, and to top things off our dogs had been nicked, burnt and scraped by their tools. They also decided to buy us a bottle of Flea Shampoo and gave 1 puppy a flea bath without our permission. We called them immediately that night, however they were closed. They did not ever call us back, so we went in to let them know what had happened. The manager brought us to the groomer, where we explained what happened. The groomer was very angry, unprofessional and started ranting at us, telling us we better be grateful because she could have charged even more, calling me a liar and a neglegent pet owner. Even when I showed her pictures of our puppies nicks, she denied that they were nicks and continued spewing out false accusations against us. I am very disappointed and absolutely appalled at their behavior towards the public and their lack of professional mannerisms. The owner, Tracy, did refund us some of the money. We will NEVER bring our pets back. I can only imagine the way our precious puppies were treated while we were not there. The groomer obviously did not feel sorry for the nicks and scrapes we knew about, nor did she think we had any right to be concerned. They have now shared personal information here on Google+ reviews, mixed with lies (which we will be dealing with legally by the way). Our groomer was Annabelle.

We have taken our 2 bichons there twice now for grooming. Cathy does a great job and really listens how we want them groomed. We started buying treats there. They love the turkey and cranberry. The store even was able to order a bigger bag for us. We just started them on some new grain free food and they love it. People are friendly and prices are reasonable compared to any other pet place we have been. Plus the stuff they sell is good for our fur babies. Definitely found a new place to go for our babies needs. Well worth the drive from Norwalk to Ankeny.

My cat had been suffering from allergies to foods for a while and I didnt know where I could find the foods that he needed. I happened upon Wholesome Pet Essentials one day and now Im a frequent shopper. The staff was very knowledgeable and helped me set up a diet for my cat that has helped him tremendously. They have a wide rage of exotic and single source protein foods for pets that suffer from allergies. They also provide raw food alternatives that my cat loves!

Thank you for bringing this great alternative to Ankeny! I visited this store yesterday for the first time and was very happy about the experience. The staff was helpful and informative. I found the prices surprisingly comparable to the chain store I typically purchase from and was delighted to find most of the products made in the U.S.A. — hard to find at the chain store. Quality food options for my furry housemates — happy customer!

I took my dog to get his haircut. While I was waiting to pick him up I was in the store by where my dog was......kind of listening and watching them without them knowing it. During that time my dog CRIED OUT IN PAIN TWICE ! My dog is the most laid back mellow dog ever and always complies with anything anyone wants him to do. And my dog doesnt yelp easily so I will NEVER be back and recommend people not to go there.

My pup ended up with a food allergy and I stopped in the shop for the 1st time in desperate need of finding the right food for her and I couldnt be more happy with the help I received from the owners and employees. They are the nicest and caring people and take the time to talk to you and your pet. They were very gentle with my pup when I brought her in to get her nails trimmed. You are the best!!!

I finally found my groomer. Im very picky about how my baby is groomed. I was so impression with her cut. I was able to email pictures to the store prior to the appointment to show how I wanted her groomed and they did it exactly like the picture. Thanks Andrea! See you guys in February.

The staff here really cares about your pets. They only carry the highest quality food and treats, and the safest chews and toys. Theyre also competitive with pricing. Wed get our dogs groomed there more often if they werent always booked 3 weeks out too!

This place is the BEST! They definitely have the highest quality dog / cat food and treats around, and not to mention the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable . 5/5 and I would highly recommend adding in the raw food if you have not already.

We have Cathy groom our poochon. She is very caring and does a great job. Our dog received individual attention without several other dogs running around or getting groomed. If you are looking for a dog groomer, this is the place to go.
