I traveled 80 miles to visit aqualand just to experience their variety. Instead of a store for cats and dogs, they have supplies for higher end pet owners who enjoy an exotic taste in life. Please read on. (Despite my below commentary, they have a great fish selection with about 90% of them in appropriate sized tanks. Very clean.) It was just okay. The animals were there, but it wasnt exceptional positive living conditions. Just the minimums and cheapest toys/containers. They had variety, but it was WAAAAAAY overpriced. If you are as experienced as I am in the pet trade, youd be appalled by what they think their animals are worth! A lot of animals were $30-75 overpriced. Some even more. A small iguana for 125? A regular morph year old red tail boa for 250? Please. Aqualand pets dont take very good care of their pets. Almost EVERY single animal is in the minimal size enclosure and crowded. Some of them are very dirty. (The animals themselves.) My iguana had red spider mites and had so much competition from the numbers of animals stuffed into his tank that he didnt get to bask often at the store. When he got home, he was very happy to say the least. They dont isolate birds when they arrive. Two tiels that were scared to death were bashing themselves on the side of the cage from fear, completely unhandled and up for sale. Feathers were missing from them pecking each other, but no one would separate them. The handler who got our new pet birds was rough and crude in trying to catch them. One escaped and he couldnt catch it without going to go get a net. (Use a towel for larger birds people.) I actually captured it MYSELF while he was gone, simply by asking her to step up and letting her fly to my shoulder. That is where she was sitting when he got back.

I am a rat enthusiast and often browse pet stores to find rare colors and genetics that arent found in chain pet stores. I now only go to Aqualand to attempt to show these poor creatures kindness before their inevitable deaths. I will not be going back after my last visit. I left crying and deeply saddened by the lack of regard for the lives of their creatures. I met a lovely pregnant female rat that I nicknamed Lola there. She was in a cage with fifteen other males and females, and looked about ready to deliver. I brought her to the front of the store and asked the clerk whether or not they separated pregnant females. He responded with, "Either they become food or pets," which is true, but rather harsh. He then added, "its the mothers job to protect her young." I was horrified. 15 other rats were in her habitat, and her babies and her would have been attacked repeatedly, and killed. The cage was feces-covered and all wire, and her babies more than likely would have choked or died due to the smell or the cage itself. The mother literally COULD NOT protect her children. It would be impossible. If I had had the money at the time I would have taken her in a heartbeat, even with no place to keep her. This place has always been neglectful of their animals; every time I walk in I point out their sick or damaged pets to them. I will never return or be a patron at this business. This is NOT supporting local businesses, people! This is supporting animal cruelty, a crime that no real animal enthusiast should abide by.

Went to Aqualand to purchase a fish for my daughter and almost gagged walking in the door. The room where the fish were contained was very poorly lit. There were no overhead lights turned on and the lighting in the tanks was not always adequate. I watched a couple use a flashlight app on their phone to try and view some saltwater fish. The entire store smells and isnt ventilated properly for the number of animals they keep. The small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs are all kept wire cages about the size of a cat carrier. None of the them had anything to play with or nibble on. More than one rabbit was too big for the wire cage it was being kept in as they had very little room to move around (just enough to turn around). I am fairly certain that two of the guinea pigs had mange or something similar as they were nearly bald. For that matter none of rabbits that I saw appeared to be in good health. They were all listless and didnt show any interest in their environment. Cages of animals were sitting on the floor haphazardly. Everything from the animal cages to the shelves and products looked worn and dirty. I will never shop their again and I did report my concerns to ARLs animal cruelty division. This place is a nightmare and no animal should be subjected to it.

I dont know where to start. First of all i only went here because it was a last resort. No where else in my area sold rats. When i came inside with my father the first thing that hits you is the overwhelming smell of decay and fecal matter. I went to use the restroom first. Bad idea. Cobwebs everywhere. Bugs. I refused to sit on the toilet. I was out as soon as possible. We went to the back room were the rodents were stored. The condition of the animals was bad enough but the cages where far more than in need of replacement. The metal was rusted on every hinge and wire even the aquarium lids were old and rusted away. I asked a male employee for assistance he made it very clear he did not enjoy rats. When i asked him to get a few out one by one to unteract and socialize with his response was "yeah id rather not get piss on my hands" and " i dont enjoy handling rats." When i asked about the genders and if they were seperated he said "our breeder prefers to only sell male rats so no one can steal business" In the emd i was bit by an older non handles rat but i did manage to save two of the young rats who werent yet so far gone.

After reading so many different reviews, I finally had to visit this place. I walked in expecting a horrible smell and rude owners, like so many of the comments say. However, it smelled just like any other pet store ive been in, sure a little bad, but not anything revolting. And the guy who greated me was VERY nice and helped me find exactly what i was looking for, and talked with me about tarantulas for quite a while, he was awesome. When i mentioned one of the tarantulas looked skinny, he grabbed a cricket and put it in with him. He didnt get mad at me for saying it was skinny or anything, so that was good. But then he yanked all of the GBBs webs out, GBBs web up their enclosures quite a bit, and for some reason he thought this was bad, they didnt really seem to know too much about the more exotic tarantulas, but most people dont. All of the animals seemed very happy, there were a few who looked a bit ill. And the lady at the counter was very cranky. Overall, it was a nice place, Ill be stopping in again.
