Wednesday March 23rd 2016 This review is in reference to Louis Kuhn I have nothing bad to say about anyone else who works at the Pony Shop It started off well, i was acknowledged by a mechanic and Louis Kuhn. I believe I was talking to another employee, when Louis Kuhn "jumped in" the conversation. i may be wrong. those of you who know Louis can confirm or deny if he exhibits this negative behavior. I was inquiring about a bike that I had purchased at the Pony Shop. I desired Louis to look up the history of the bike to see if i had used any of my "2 free tune ups". i think Louis said there was no computer system to look it up, i inquired about a non-computer way to look it up/ how do you know if a bike has had a tune up? he replied something about 2 tune up coupons that come with the bike, i do not remember receiving those coupons, nonetheless you should be able to use the bikes serial number and establish whether or not a bike has had any of the free tune ups. please dont advertise 2 free tune ups if that is not the case . at some point Louis said "is it your bike" what type of question is that ? basically Louis said too much time had passed to use the 2 free tune ups. i desired an owners manual. Louis said something about "proof of purchase" for an owners manual. i was like sure, whatever. i looked forward to him looking up the history of my bike and also telling me if the bike ever had any tune-ups ( i do not think so) but of course Louis did not look up the history. i insisted, he refused, he begrudgingly gave me a free/very inexpensive owners manual, and went back to doing whatever he was doing. Performance Bicycle is not perfect, but they have never asked for a proof of purchase for an owners manual ! in the past, i had several positive experiences with the pony shop, but, i am never going back unless there is new ownership or i buy the store. Does anyone, who is not a Caucasian male, work at the Pony Shop?

I just bought my 3rd bike from this shop and I have placed many parts orders to be shipped to my home. All trouble free transactions. All the people I have dealt with have been very friendly and were able to answer my questions and offer helpful suggestions and options. They area all deeply knowledgeable but they dont carry an attitude. Ive watched as people of all types from hard core racers to parents looking for a kids bike walk in the door. Each one is verbally greeted and treated with respect and patience. The other thing I like about this shop is that they carry two well engineered brands in Cannondale and Giant. A few years ago I bought a house brand road bike from one of the national retailers and while I thought I was getting a good deal, I soon found myself replacing many of the parts that were poorly specified and I discovered things that were not engineered well and not fixable. Its was a carbon bike but the difference between the knock off carbon and my similarly priced Cannondale in handling and stiffness is huge. The good deal turned out to be a bad one in the long run. I am very pleased with the value of Cannondales and Giant bike I own. Full disclosure: My son races on the Pony Jrs Cyclocross team. Support of junior level competitive cycling by a shop and adult team is very rare and their commitment to the development of young riders is an enlightened approach and indicative of their love of the sport of cycling.

Do not take your bike here for repair! I went in to get my wheels trued. Got there, they tacked on $20 for a "brake adjustment" that I never asked for. They wouldnt take the charge off and the mechanic "Vlad" was conveniently absent to explain whats going on. So then I suck it up and ride the bike home only to hear the spokes are super loose and making a ton of noise. I go back, another fellow fixes it (light haired guy, super nice. Probably the only person I liked there). Took him like 20 minutes, didnt put it on a truing stand though just tightened them. Whatever, if its still true I wont complain. So riding it now and the disc brakes squeal constantly after the surprise $20 "adjustment." Absolutely floored with this experience. Never will go back. Im going to stick to Everyday Cycles from now on. Maybe he can fix the brakes Pony Shop royally screwed up.

Ive gone in a few times for both simple but timely repairs and more serious work/equipment purchases. Every time I end up leaving without spending any money. They charge way too much for their equipment and services. Theyre always turning their noses up at my "cheap" equipment in an attempt to shame me into buying more expensive gear, even when my gear is of decent quality. They always try to upsell me on gear or services, but ignore the request I originally came in with. Even though theyre the only serious bike shop on that leg of my ride, I always end up going elsewhere or taking the time later to do the work myself. When it comes time for me to spend real money on gear/work, I go to the shops that have been consistently providing me good service for my everyday needs and wont overcharge me for said gear/work.

The Pony Shop is one of the awesome locally-owned type of establishments where "everybody knows your name". Get to know them and they will treat you like family too. No big-box watered-down service here. Lou, Ryan and Vlad are top rate mechanics and know there stuff. Ive read the few reviews that claim the shop is elitist...not sure what shop they were in, but it couldnt have been the Pony Shop. I suppose they could have just been having a bad day? These guys are down to earth and have never looked down their noses at my lower-end equipment. Nor have they ever tried to sell me something I didnt need or over-charged me.

Very helpful, probably have gone in here 100 times, super helpful and great prices compared to other local bike shops. I have bought a bike for riding around town and a cyclo-cross bike from the pony shop. And in about a week I am going to buy a road bike from them. Very good selection of bikes. Good for someone starting to bike and the best cyclist in the state.

bought a $50 dollar seat a while back, several tools, and I got a new rim installed for $43. its about a $30 rim so thats reasonable. edit: after having the same rim bent 2 years later I went to a different bike shop and was quoted over $100! so $43 for a new rim is a steal ha. great bike shop!

Went to pick up an ordered new bike today, and though your website indicated you were open - alas, you were closed!!! I understand the holiday time, but maybe next time you could alter your website info. See you next week! Happy New Year!

Great service. My 12 year old son got his first bike here yesterday. He is thrilled with the bike. I appreciated the safety tips including how to brake, how to wear a helmet and how to lock the bike.

The people at the pony shop are so helpful. They fit the needs of serious bikers and people just looking for a way of transportation. I will never buy a bike anywhere else
