Bought a 1989 Mercury Cougar on 11/11/15. Test drove the car and all parts except drivers side passive seatbelt were in working order. Made a deal and got the price I was looking for. John, the owner, was very friendly. After finishing the paperwork, I drove the car home and almost made it. The car overheated and then something popped and the engine started to be very sluggish. I get it in my driveway, coasting about 150 yards. I opened the hood and found a massive amount of redish-brown liquid sprayed all over the engine compartment. It had the smell of antifreeze but not the color. After the engine cooled down, I started to investigate the source of the liquid. I found a hole in the radiator right below the top radiator hose. The redish-brown liquid was radiator fluid mixed with a lot of rust. There was a gallon of antifreeze in the trunk that came with the car. The folks at Commuter cars told me it was a full gallon. I shook the gallon and it was full. When I went to put it in the radiator, I found that it was an antifreeze container filled with water. Before I bought the car, I was told the previous owner was a mechanic and maintained the car very well. Any good mechanic would only use water in the radiator as a stop-gap until you can flush it out and use 50-50 antifreeze. Now, I am looking at a $150 bill for parts to replace the radiator, both hoses, the thermostat, and the radiator cap. This doesnt include my labor or the antifreeze I will need to fill it properly. This car was to be a first car for my kids but now it seems that it is becoming a project car for me. And I havent even had it for 24 hours. Buying a used car is always a risk but I did expect this car to last more than 10 miles before the first breakdown. And, there are no used car lemon laws in Florida. Use a lot of caution when buying a used car from Commuter Cars. I got a good deal at the time when I bought the car but now Im wondering if I really did get a good deal. Strongly request an inspection from a local mechanic before buying from them. I did not and now I am paying the price. I am contacting Commuter Cars today to inform them of the issue I had with this car. I expect nothing from them because I bought it "AS IS". But, you cant get what you dont ask for. I am giving this a 2-star rating because I was not upset with the deal, only with the car when I got home. I have mixed feelings at this time. Update - John at Commuter Cars is providing money towards the parts for the repair. I understand buying "AS IS" so I am appreciative of their effort to make this right. Increasing the rating.

This has been an on going 6 month event or rather night mare mostly due to the illegal actions of this company. If I can caution anyone who is even thinking of purchasing a vehicle from this company, please stay as far away as you can. Go anywhere else. These people are liars and thieves and you will only end up regretting you ever met any of them. They sold me a vehicle for three to four times its value, lied and said it had working AC, it didnt. I then paid for the AC to be repaired, still doesnt work. They changed the payment schedule but forgot to inform me of same and then repossessed the vehicle when the payment I didnt know was supposed to have been made wasnt. My sales contract did not even contain my name or vehicle information. It was some other person with my same last name and an entirely different vehicle. It cost me over a thousand dollars to get my vehicle back after they illegally repossessed it. They over charged me for the transfer of the tags, never informed me of same and then took 6 months paying me back for the over charge. They have been cited by the State of Florida for multiple infractions in the sale of my vehicle and still they refuse to make it right. If you attempt to call and speak to any of the owners, they refuse to return your calls and they tell you to take your best shot in court because as Nick with the Pt. St. Lucie lot told me "take your best shot, we never loose in court"! The handling of complaints or grievances of customers rises to the same level of the way the shady transactions are handled with this company. Nothing is above board and hey Nick, I think I will take a shot in court, its certainly further than Im ever going to get trying to give any of you the benefit of doing the right thing. Thats obviously never going to happen unless a court forces it so, see you in court real soon!

These people are the worst. They tried to spot delivery scam me. I drove off the lot thinking my financing was a done deal then a week later the phone calls started. Hey the bank needs this and the bank needs that. Then after I complied with every request I get told by the "boss" that my financing is being kicked back cause I had a gap in employment.(which I did not a company I work for had to close its doors. Also which the "boss" knew about) then iwas told its ok I got you a diffrent loan with a little higher intrest rate and a little higher payment. I told them they could no longer verify my employment and I will leave the car and take my deposit back. He tried to tell me thats not how it works. Then called his boss and said I could pick up my deposit tomorrow. Well tomorrow comes and the "boss" is out of the office for the day and I should come by tomorrow. So now I was sent to the main office in PSL.the GM tried to tell me I did not put down a deposit. So I told him I was not leaving the office till I got my money. I was told we will call the sheriff so I said ok you call the sheriff Ill call my lawyer. Then magically I got half of my deposit back and the car I traded in (which I was told was"crushed") DO NOT do business with these people they are all slime balls. I left out names cause it doesnt matter all of them from top to bottom are all slime. I will say one name though, the comptroller Michelle is a swamp ape. I asked to see something I had signed that says they could keep my deposit and she ran out of her office with a paper waived it in my face and when I tried to read it she snatched it back and ran back to her office.

Do not buy a car from these guys. They will sell you on how detailed they are about checking their vehicles and you will end up with a car with problems. And owners/managers who wont care to help you. I purchased a diesel truck from them and noticed that the brakes werent working too well and the truck looked like it had been in an accident. I was reassured by the salesman and manager that it had not been. Which was why they were asking clean retail. As soon as I bought it I was told that there was major problems with the brakes and rotors and hub (on the side I supported of being in a crash) and had to spend $1500+ to replace them - just so the vehicle would be able to operate safely. They also pointed out that it was listing and that the cv axle boot (same drivers side) was ripped off. I then had to replace both cv axles. Since, I have had to replace them 8 times over the last year. Costing me time and money to do so. I also found out that there was reported damage prior to me purchasing and that the dealer had access to this info as well. So they knew about it. Dont buy here - or it will cost yo
