I recently spent some time shopping for a new road bike in the $1000 range. Im 63, and need a larger size bike- I couldnt find any bike stores locally (Im in Melbourne) that stocked bikes my size and I surely wasnt going to spent lots of money on a bike I hadnt test ridden. I went to orange cycle and they had an awesome selection in stock, between two trips I tried 4 different 60 cm bicycles in my price range. Neil helped me out both times and was absolutely great, he was full of information, very helpful, and most of all listened to my concerns before telling me what I needed. I ended up buying a closeout 2010 CADD 9 6 which Im quite happy with so far. Things sort of started to fall apart when I actually went to purchase the bike. None of these things are particularly big deals in and of themselves, but together make me say dont go out of your way to shop orange cycle. First, they were unwilling to negotiate on the price. Ok, whatever. When I agreed to buy the bike they were about 45 min from closing time on a Saturday, and the bike needed to be readied/fixed up/whatever. I told the fellow I was dealing with at the time (Not Neil) that my girl and I would go across the street for some food... he told me that if I wasnt back by closing time they wouldnt let me back in the store (seriously? I was about to spend $1200+, you can wait an extra 20 min for me to enjoy my lunch). I purchased a speedometer with the bike; the guy helping me at the counter didnt do much of a job at all explaining my options which sort of upset me. I had them install the spedo, which they charged me for (I think this is ridiculous, accessory installations should be free with a bike purchase... thats pretty standard, although they didn’t try to hide the charge) and didnt really do that great of a job installing. They used tape to attach the wires to the bike tube... thats going to last all of 3 days in the Florida sun. If I have to pay for the installation of an accessory when buying an expensive bicycle at a reputable bike shop I expect nothing less than a top notch job that I could not do myself, which this was not. Further, I was informed that adjustments to my bicycle are only free for 1 year after purchase. So to summarize, The Positive: They have an awesome selection, knowledgeable and helpful (if you get the right one) staff, have no problem with you test riding their bikes, etc. Theyre also one of the few Cannondale dealers around. The Negative: They nickel and dime you, some staff arent quite as helpful as Id like. Their shop is very full of people milling around. Mostly I hate being nickel and dimed, which is mostly why I didnt give a higher star rating

Salesperson was ok, he didn´t know much about road bikes, but tryed to help as much as possible, looking up online and asking to mechanics to answer my questions. I bought a new 2017 Cannondale Slice, since I was travelling the next day I asked if I could take it boxed as is, but they tould me they couldnt sell me like that because of Cannondale rules, ok fine by me. So I waited for them to assemble it for me so I could take it home and boxe it all over again. Thats when my problem begun. The mechanic was all chaty, with every one around and a 2 hour assembly (I am a mechanic, and it barely takes that much) turned out more than 3 hours. mechanic was always multi-tasking/talking/playing around. When he noticed I was getting impatient by waiting so much he told me (again 3 hours later) that it woukd take him another 2 to 3 hours to get it done. WHAT?!! totally disrespectfull and acting as if I didnt understand anything about bikes. since i couldnt wait around for another 3 hours ( since when does it take 6 hours to assemble a bike?!) i told them I would come back the next morning JUST to pick it up. ok. Next morning came in about 10am, and the bike didnt have handlebars tape on, neither was it shifting properly. So, agains, I asked them to get it done, and there went another hour waiting for the mechanic. This time he promissed it was ready to go, my patience was ZERO at the time, so I just got of the store and rode around the corner with it, and it WASNT SHIFTING correctly. So I just went to another bike shop where the mechanic inspected and notice that the rear derraileur hanger was bent!!! This was the third bike i bought from you guys, second time I had problems with one of your mechanics, so Im never going back to the shop. If you take your job seriously, train your mechanics better!

Response Added... So, I called Orange Cycle to have some repairs done on my bike and between talking to two different guys in the service department, I got wildly different prices. The second guy was charging me about $60.00 more than the first guy. Second guy said it would be $20 to take off bar grip tape and bar tape wouldnt be any good so I should buy more grip while I am there. The shop where I ended up taking it, charged me $10.00 and had no problem re-using my pre-existing grip tape. After a series of other "things" I would have to buy while I waited for my bike to be fixed, I decided to forgo going there and I took it to another shop. The repair job was at least $60.00-$75.00 cheaper. Ive always wanted to like this shop and it is much closer to where I live but I felt like I would be ripped off by second service guy and he told me to "ask" for him personally. Im not sure, maybe these guys work on commission or something. Its probably fine to buy a bike there but I wouldnt ever take my bike to be repaired there. I called twice and talked to 2 different repair guys. Guy number #2 was giving a hard sell on everything(like i mentioned, my grip tape was reapplied by other bike company and works great) I hate driving an extra 30 minutes to another bike shop but I didnt like the feeling that repair guys may work on comission(not sure if they do or not)

I have had a good experience when it comes to purchasing bikes and tri gear, however the consumer service and bike repair needs some work. I took my bike in with a broken back wheel and had it replaced. That night the tire on the new wheel exploded, sounding like a gun shot. I had plans in the morning so I replaced the tire and tube since they had both been destroyed and I had plans to ride in the morning. I called Orange cycle midday and explained that it had exploded and didnt get much of a response. A few days later the new tube went flat so I took my bike back in to orange cycle. Turns out the liner on the wheel was not lined up properly. They fixed the wheel, but then tried to sell me another tire even though my tire was brand new and the flat on the tube was on the wheel-side. I am already not happy that I have to bring my bike back in to fix their mistake, but when they try to up sell me, it just made me mad. I had already spent money to replace the tube and tire as well as an uber to get home after being stranded at work, I do not want you trying to sell me anything. Orange Cycle I know you can do better then this. :(
