Normally, Im a big fan of pet stores. I dont expect everyone in there to be an expert and I definitely dont expect every problem to be resolved in 10 seconds. But the experiences that Ive had with the store have been so terrible that its led me to writing this review. Petsmart is a great company as far as corporate Pet Stores go, but whoever hires people at this place is clearly not in touch with how to run a business. Ive had 3 experiences with this place. The first one was on my birthday, when we went to buy a fish tank --a DECORATIVE fish tank for my bedroom, with very little fish. Long story short, not only was the associate that helped me socially incompetent, but he literally wouldnt let me buy fish. He told me that if I bought the fish without doing steps a-z, the fish would die and refused to sell them to me. I finally have to make up lies to convince him to get a goldfish out of the tank so that I can purchase it, and when I get home, the tank I bought had been cracked and the filter didnt work. So I go back to return it and --LOW AND BEHOLD, it was the only one. They refused to exchange it for something else. The store I decided to visit next was on Newberry. They gave me an exchange, with a tank that was even better without charging me AND gave me a gift card for my birthday. Amazing customer service. 2nd time I visited the store on Archer, an associate named Kelly was helping me pick up an online order. I bought the order with gift cards (ironically the same ones from my birthday because I never went back, and had been going to a different fish store). Apparently my order wasnt showing up in their system. Kelly, although sweet, had no idea how to help me. The manager she brought over to help me was bloodshot, looked high out of her MIND. She said, "sorry, we cant let you pick it up yet". Wouldnt do anything to help, even though I drove an HOUR to get here. I ended up buying it for a 2nd time out of pocket just to get out of there. She said they would refund my gift cards and cancel the order, but chances are, they wont, and Ill have to call in later. Decent fish selection though. 2 stars.

I dislike giving these folks money. They are only about 2 miles from me, but I often hop on 75 and head over to Petco. The employees here are frighteningly without clue. Have a question? Dont expect anybody to get off their butt and answer it. Heaven forbid somebody up front be asked to WALK anywhere. They will scream at one another across lanes or hey, the whole darn store and after they are done yelling to one another in search of an answer, you will more often than not get an "I dont think so" or a "No". These answers are NOT based in fact, but instead based in "I dont feel like getting off my butt and looking". The groomer? A little better. Have no issues with the service overall, but get sick and tired of spending 20 minutes arguing with them about what I WANT and that yes I DO know how short that is (I have had the dog since he was a pup, he is 6 years old and I have been giving him the same darn cut for 6 years. I DO NOT NEED YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I WANT FOR MY DOG!!!!!!!). If you have no choice, shop here. Otherwise, pass on it. Target has cheaper dog food prices if you are buying the "mainstream" kibble and treats and there are better places with competent employees that are in the vicinity.

I have mixed feelings about Petsmart. I like the breadth of their selection when it comes to food, toys, and other pet accessories, however I found the staff a little lacking. I came in to look for a new hamster, as mine had just passed. I spoke with a young man about seeing their hamsters, and he obliged, however he didnt seem to care a whole lot about me and what I was looking for. Granted, I asked to see several of the animals multiple times, but that does not warrant apathetic behavior. It made me nervous and guilty, and I shuffled out apologizing for holding him up... turns out he had nothing better to be doing. I hunted down another employee, a young woman this time. She seemed more knowledgeable about the animals themselves, and was willing to check to see if they had a specific breed of hamster I was looking for in the back, but she seemed rather reluctant to help me find the type I was looking for after she told me they hadnt and of the breed. I understand trying to make a sale, but I felt that she missed the point of my search and wasnt sympathetic in the least. As convenient as Petsmart may be, I think I might start taking my business to the Petco by Oaks Mall.

Whenever Id take my small dog to get his nails cut here, each time hed be more scared and anxious. He growls and sometimes bites when this is being done, so I tell them to use a muzzle. The last time he got it done, they cut the quick of his nails, and he bit one of the groomers (which wouldnt have happened if they used a muzzle, like I said to). They didnt tell me that he bit, and I get a call the next day from Animal Services that the groomer reported my dog and I wasnt allowed to take him off my property for 10 days for rabies quarantine, even though my dog is vaccinated and they knew that. The next and final time I took him to get his nails cut there, he was so traumatized that they werent able to restrain him. They also didnt use a muzzle, again, even though I told them to, and he tried to bite. I take him to get his nails cut at a vet (Affordable Vet Clinic, which is awesome) and they did it quickly and without a peep, and informed me that the groomers at Petsmart were actually cutting too deep into his quick every time, and that it was very painful for my dog. Save yourself the trouble and go to people who know what theyre doing.

GREAT DOG TRAINING! We have done two classes (both beginner and intermediate) with Eileen at Petsmart in Gainesville, and she is wonderful to work with. We definitely recommend her!!! Our puppy is pretty crazy and has tons of energy, and our pup has learned so much from the classes. We do work with her at home, but our pup enjoys coming into class and really seems to grasp all of Eileens teaching techniques. It makes practice at home so much easier because we have an idea of what to work on and which skills are important to teach and when. Eileen also spends time answering our questions that are not training related too! For instance, what type of food to feed our puppy, what kinds of toys are best for her, etc. My best advice is DONT wait until you think your puppy is calm enough or ready enough for class. They wont ever be ready unless you start training them young! Plus, I feel like the classes are very affordable compared to many other trainers. We paid $109 for I believe a 6 week class (maybe 8 weeks, I cant remember). I really felt like I got SO much out of our first class that we signed up for another.
