REI is one of my favorite places to shop for outdoor gear. Even better are the deals you get as a member. Being a member for a one time cost pays for itself almost instantly which is awesome. The people at the REI West Hartford store have always done right for me. I’ve had to return things in the past and with no hassle they took it back. I also find them to be very knowledgeable and helpful with finding the gear that I need. They don’t just try to sell you the most expensive thing, the take the time to talk to you and from their personal experience and recommendations tell you what would work best for you which is customer service at its best. I’ve been going here for years and would highly recommend.

I was looking for a mtn bike. I did not tell the sales person Ive owned 3 of them. I asked some general questions about the bikes in the 600-800 range, I never owned a GT series. She looked like she lived on granola, and was very aloof. I kinda felt bad bothering her. After I spent 700 they tried to sign me up for whatever buying club. Look I just want the bike. Then it took the tech like 45 min to tune it off the shelf. Really 700 bucks is still alot to me, they could have been nicer. Oh the front counter people are always nice. So if you are going in and know what you want, you should be OK. The bike section are snobs, IMHO.

I know a lot of people who love REI on the West Coast, but when I called the West Hartford store in my home state of Connecticut, the lady on the phone was unprofessional and so rude. I got the Thule rack I needed from the kind and helpful folks at the Manchester EMS, and I saved a ton of money over REIs prices. Seems to me REI always charges top dollar and EMS has a lot of sales and is a lot more reasonable. Maybe that lady was having a bad day but her rude attitude was the last straw, no more REI for me.

REI tends to have quality gear. As an outdoor enthusiast, I frequently shop there. They are a bit pricier than their EMS counterparts, though if you shop the Garage Sales online there are some pretty good buys. The folks who work there tend to be knowledgeable and polite. My only nitpick is that the staff will frequently ask you if youre an REI member while youre shopping and usually before offering service. Its a reasonable program, but having multiple reps ask can get a bit tedious after a while.

Just wanted to take a minute to thank Andrew for helping me out with my online order. I ordered some merchandise online and it did not come in on the date that the email said. He took the time to review my order and locate the products I had purchased in-store so that I could pick them up that day. I really appreciate Andrew taking the time to do this for me. REI you would have gotten five stars but you told me on-line that these items werent available for in-store pick-up...

This is a good store. They have decent service and a good selection. They arent cheap, so dont go there expecting bargain basement prices. That being said, they do carry high quality merchandise. My recommendation: wait for the off season and buy last years model when they put it on sale (theyll try to clear out whatever is left of the previous years stock in preparation for the new inventory).

Stores like REI are always fun to visit and this store is no different. I mainly frequent their cycling department, where they have a good selection of parts, tools, tires and tubes at reasonable prices. Memorial Day sales and COOP membership can lead to great savings and being able to buy my supplies way cheaper than I can find online.

Staff knows. Youll find the seasons latest here, usually MSRP, but there are always great markdowns on the sale racks. Awesome place to go to get outfitted for a trip and everyone is so damned friendly youll leave super amped with great gear. On top of it youll get your dividend coupon in the mail mid year which is always nice.

Ive dropped by here after work a couple times now. Every single time, the staff has always been friendly and super helpful. From picking out the right backpack to fitting the right hiking boots to finding ways to save me money, this REI has been super. As a result, Ive become a co-op member and a fan for life!

Poor customer service! Their return policy is horrible! No returns without a "proof of purchase ". I showed they the bank transaction but they didnt accept it. Instead they try to sign you up for a membership. Once a member you can then return items without a receipt. Sounds like a racket.

All the staff were very polite and accommodating. They carry a good assortment of brands, clothing as well as equipment and accessories. I wasnt able to locate what I needed, since it was out of season, but they informed me of the online and return options. Keep up the good work!

I like the layout of this REI, it feels less stressful than other stores. Gear downstairs, clothes and shoes upstairs. Staff are friendly. Whole Foods is across the street. The sidewalk sale is in the parking lot so they have a ton of good stuff. Overall a great place to shop.

Paige is the best employee ever! She helped me find everything I was looking for. I wish there were more Paiges at REI. Congrats on your wedding Paige! Oh yeah and Amanda was really awesome too! Nate was really great too! I guess you can say I had a really good experience.

I have a Yakima roof rack that I didnt have a key for and I called and they said to come on in they would see if they could unlock it for me. Sure enough they had the key and not only did they unlock it they adjusted the bars for me too! Thanks Neil!!!

Always fun place to check out when in West Hartford. Not many "outdoor" shops left where you can get all sorts of interesting stuff. May not be cheap compared to buying online, but there is inventory to actually touch.

REI is great. A little expensive but as a member you get back something at the end of the year. We got shoes for my son and the staff were great in getting him fitted in the right shoe.

Not dog friendly and quite rude about it. Especially since I have a timid greyhound, not some growling attack dog.
