Im sure the customer service is great like petco usually is but the fish section was a mess. Not the worst Ive seen but not acceptable for a reputable company. Dead fish in several display tanks and one (with the clearly distressed yoyo loaches) had pellets that were getting broken down by the tanks beneficial bacteria. If youve kept fish for a while you will know that takes several days to form fluff that bad. Pretty sad to see several of the fancy mollies with the shimmys (shaking from nerve damage), clamped fins, and fungus. That is a sign of high nitrates which mollies are sensitive to. Even other fish like the assorted cichlids had issues (and they are hardy fish). Several other fish like the gouramis and goldfish were gasping hard for air. As an aquarium hobbyist for over 10 years you need to do something about either the poor care or poor quality in your shipments, or hire someone new with a few years of aquarium hobby experience. Id say the store is still ok for dog and cat stuff but if you are new to the aquarium hobby or cant set up a quarantine tank dont go to this location for fish. If the management can they should clean up the fish section and treat the dying fish and dispose of dead fish properly. Ive been to other petcos that have amazing fish sections so why is this one so bad?

Horrible customer service! The old woman working the cashier was very rude to me when I asked her for help. The assistant manager I currently had an interview with the assistant manager Chris. It was scheduled for 1:30pm. I showed up on on time but i had to wait 1 hour and a half for Chris to show up. He showed up 2 hours later then he told me he would be. It bothered me that he was so late i had other things to do that day he wasted my time. I stuck around to look at the store and the entire time I was there nobody was working or doing there job. They were all gathered around the one cashier and all of the employees from the store including the groomers were standing around talking trash about customers they had and making rude comments about them. The assistant manager Chris even started talking trash about customers. Adding on to that everything was overpriced. I would definitely never goo to this location again. They all need training on how to talk to people.

Horrible staff, I swear all of them actively avoid customers! Staff is extremely lacking in knowledge and any advice that I have been given has later turned out to be incorrect. I have come here several times in order to purchase fish or supplies and everything is way overpriced, there is easily a 25% mark up on many products and some of the live animals are up to 4x the price you would pay for a higher quality breeder animal (this is especially true with the reptiles) . The reptiles are not kept in proper conditions and many lizards are missing toes due to poor sheds. The rodents are overstocked in small cages and the parakeet cage looks like it has never been cleaned before. Their aquatic plant tank is filled with terestrial plants like bamboo that will only rot in an aquiarium. Will not come back here. Nothing but disappointments. Petco should be ashamed at the poor quality service at this store.

Its not crowded, has good hours, well stocked, clean and pretty helpful folks working there. Only ding is that the area is a bit sketchy with nighttime visits likely to find some people milling about, asking for $s, etc in the parking lot. Not dangerous, but my dog was pretty wound up a couple times when getting out of car or coming out of the store to someone too close for her liking.

I came here to buy treats with my puppy. Your trainer was rude and interrupted me while I was talking to someone and then made them step away because their dog was "afraid of mine" even though they had been playing throughout the store for 20 minutes prior.

The groomers here are incredible!! They take really good care of my Gia and the staff is so happy to see her. I moved away from Costa Mesa 2 years ago and no matter where I move to I will always bring them back here because of the service.
