PetCo has a great selection of food and supplies for most animals. Usually the customer service is good, although sometimes it can be hard to find an associate. The reason that I am giving three stars is due to mislabeled animals and the lack of supplies that are available necessary for said animals to survive. The animals in question are the frogs (Dendrobates leucomelas, or yellow banded poison dart frog) which were labeled as Melanophryniscus klappenbachi (bumblebee toad). These amphibians require two very different environments, as well as different levels of humidity in order to thrive. But what was most upsetting to me was that this particular PetCo has never been reliable in keeping flightless fruitflies in stock, or pinhead crickets. These D. leucomelas are very young froglets, but even the adults of their species require these small prey items due to having a microesophagus, which is true of almost all dart frog species. Holly, a dry goods stocker, was the person I spoke with at this location regarding the animals mislabeling and lack of proper food. I had overheard her very politely insisting to another customer that in order for the lizard they wanted to thrive, they needed to invest in the proper set up and be aware of its needs before bringing the lizard home. She definitely earns 5 stars from me in caring more about the animals welfare than making a quick sale. I typically shop at this location for fruitflies and cat food, and I sincerely hope management will respond to my concerns before those frogs suffer for it. Below I have attached pictures of each species for reference in case there was any doubt.

Compared to other Petco stores I have been to, this one was dumpy. The staff was mediocre to rude. AND from what my daughter and I saw from their grooming department, I would under NO circumstances EVER take my dogs there. While we were in store today (10/13/15), we noticed two little pups getting groomed. The one groomer, an old heavy set caucasian woman with light browish long hair that was pulled up in a messy bun, was just a miserable person. She never smiled at the dog. She never smiled period. From behind the glass, you could clearly see she was yelling at the poor little thing. The woman was quite rough with the dog, grabbing the pup by the ears to turn its head. The dog was clearly scared, shaking with its tail between its legs. My daughter is a vet student and we all love animals, so we often watch the dogs getting groomed. This surly woman had our attention particularly because she was obviously not liking her job. When she saw my daughter and I watching her, she locked eyes with me and gave me the death stare. Then she grabbed the little dog under one arm, like it was a football instead of a scared little dog, and in a huff took the little pup to the back and out of our view. She wasnt even finished grooming. One can only speculate how the dog was treated out of sight. I can tell you this, my dogs will NEVER be brought to this Petco for grooming. This woman clearly needs a new job and I would never allow her to treat my dogs lIke that. I pray the owner of that little dog, never brings it back to THAT woman to be groomed. Petco management, you need to fire this woman.

Its a Petco. I have never had must expectations for them, since every branch Ive been to is underwhelming. But, they have product at competitive prices, a good selection of fish, and they arent PetSmart (read: overpriced for no good reason). My only real complaint is the trainer that works as a cashier. Im not a huge fan of the know-it-all attitude nor the assumption that I dont know how to train a dog simply because one behavior in particular is more difficult. Which, whatever, wouldnt be a big deal if she wouldnt continue to talk over me and push, push, PUSH the classes after Ive already said 3 times that I have a well educated and certified trainer that makes house calls. So whatever you do, dont mention anything to do with dog behavior if you dont want a 15 minute Hard Sale thrown in your face.

I spoke with the manager of the grooming department prior to making appointments fro my Shih Tzu and Goldendoodle. I was assured that they did a wonderful job. I brought in my Shih Tzu for grooming and told the attendant that he was a little grumpy when getting his whiskers trimmed, but I have him groomed regularly with no problems. She called me an hour later stating she couldnt really groom him because he was aggressive. I went to get him and was charged $41 for basically a wash and cut tail. She scissor cut around his face and it looks horrible. She didnt touch his body at all. I have gone to Petsmart and Heads and Tails in Antioch and they have never had a problem. The attendant was not helpful, nor was the manager when I called the next day. I will not go back for grooming.

I got a fish from there and today I look in the tank that I put it in and it was dead he was swimming happily and the next day he had white dots on him and after that he was dead I put him In a 5.5 gallon tank after I saw the spots I went to get the medication and he takes it and he was swimming happily again but I wake up and he is on the decoration dead I called in to see what they can do it was only 9 days after I bought him and they said that they wont give me my money back and said they wont do anything about it so if u buy fish from here good luck because theyre fosh suck

Employees are always so helpful. They will talk you through all of your options for anything youre interested in no matter how long it takes. The manager is great he really tries to make each customer happy no matter what the obstacle. The rewards add up surprisingly fast and its nice to get $5 off here and there along with coupons! The store is always clean and the adoption events they host are great! They also do low cost vaccination/microchip treatments a couple times a month!

Would give a zero if I good absolutely atrocious conditions I seen at some of the tanks. Inlcludong a bag with tones of fish stuck in a bag while many were floating dead. Not a single associate came by the whole 20 minutes I was there. Extremly upsetting along with that a saw a tank for turtles with way to much water. And they were AL struggling to even reach the surface.

Went to this the first day I picked up my puppy. The puppy was fed Purina puppy chow and I needed to slowly take him off of it with something that was healthier. I purchased a bag and it was infested with the nastiest things I have ever seen. Look at the pics. Be careful when shopping here. Their shelves maybe stocked with infested product.

Ive been here about three, maybe four, times. Its alright, but I wasnt impressed by anything I saw. They stock way too much made in China items. We (collectively) have long memories when it comes to past poisoning of our pets through foreign products. There just wasnt much I was willing to buy from them.
