Bookmans has been a consistent stop for my family for years. We have spent significant time in Bookmans Flagstaff, Tucson, and Mesa - before the Phoenix location opened up. For most of the 20+ years I have shopped Bookmans I would have given it 5 stars, but in the last couple of years a few things have changed to reduce my rating. Bookmans rarely takes in hardback books. Per the Phoenix Manager they do not sell and therefore rarely accepted for trade. It seems to me that a better policy would be to adjust trade-in / sell prices down to reflect paperbacks and take them in. It would build inventory and increase customer retention and options. The most disappointing thing recently was when I went to buy some video games for my children. They seemed fairly expensive so I checked on-line for prices at Amazon. Amazon, brand-new, games were the same price, or a dollar or two more, than Bookmans. When I asked the clerk about this she said that they used "Gamestop" prices to base their price off of. Gamestop is dramatically more expensive than Amazon. So I went home and ordered my kids video games on Amazon. I still love shopping Bookmans for used books though! One last note the staff at Bookmans Phoenix is significantly less friendly than the staff at Bookmans Mesa.

Took all of my old filthy junk that I was going to throw away anyway and got $400 in store credit, then used that credit to buy mint condition Xbox one with few games. I love this place. Most pot smoking people who left negative feedback here are to stupid to understand how this business model works. They have to buy your filthy junk for cheap and sell it high to make a profit. You got the entertainment value from those items, they are worthless to you. They didnt take most of your books? Go sell them on Amazon then, quit smoking your pot it is making you lazy. Staff not friendly? You dont go there to make friends, you go there to take your filth and hope to get some cash or store credit. Problem with a return? Go there sober, dont go there high on pot. Make sure you really want the item. Ask to touch and test electronic item before purchase. I gave 4 because they should work on their return policy, they dont believe you when you are returning non working item, they think you broke it and not happy about the return. Place sticks? Hell yeah all of my filthy smelly junk is on their shelves, smells like my house that I never clean, I love it.

My experience was horrible, I purchased a game and consul remote. I got home to try it out and neither worked. I returned the merchandise and asked if they test the equip before they purchase it. They said " we dont have a place set up for testing, they go by word of the person selling to them." I then was refunded my money and shorted at the same time. If it wasnt for the fact I knew what I paid I would have lost out on money owed to me. FYI any purchase made allows return within 7 days of the purchase date at full price refundable before store credit is the only other option. I teen proceeded to sell back two games I bought a month ago and was offered half of what I paid in there store tagged at there price for store credit, or $2.00 in cash. I dont recremend shopping at this store to anyone. There personal look like there all on drugs, " HIPPIES". Good luck to anyone that attempts to buy from them.

They had a good variety of game and most of them were priced very well. If you are looking for Intellivision games this is the place! The organization of the cartridge based games was odd and hard to look through. I would give a higher score but they put their price stickers on the labels and boxes on some the product (gamers would know that is a huge pain to remove and it can ruin the labels.) and also when I got my games they look as they were not cleaned. I wish they were cleaner so I didnt have to myself. The last thing that brought it down to 3 stars was the way the cashier threw my boxed Intellivision game into the bag and the way it was handled was not good for the box that is approaching 40 years old. This was my experience with just the game section. The games I got do work and are not illegal reproductions which is fantastic! So I say give it a try. Just ask for better handling of your games.

I love this place, you can find a lot of things here you cant find anywhere else anymore. That being said I do think that sometimes things are overpriced or not priced accordingly with their condition. A lot of times they will have copies of the same book on the shelf, one is almost brand new and the other is obviously extremely used, pages wrinkled and discolored, and it smells weird, but they are the same price. I recently went in and found a whole set that I wanted but they all smelled very strongly like cigarette smoke from the previous owner. Definitely not willing to pay the price they were marked since they smelled that way so I didnt buy anything that day. It would be nice if they had different tiers of pricing instead of always charging half the cover price.

BEST STORE EVER!!! I seriously LOVE this store and wish we had em in California. But then Id probably be totally broke. I usually spend like $100 but the prices are good, I just buy a lot. They have a fabulous selection of used books! As well as awesome old video games! All the way back to the original systems like original Nintendo and all the video game consoles and games and controllers and boxes and parts. They also have instruments and board games and movies and music and comics and magazines as well as home decor and Bookmans merchandise and pins and random stuff too. Basically everything you could ever want besides food, clothes, and furniture. All used and good prices and still in good shape! Staff are friendly and helpful and the place feels inviting and nice.

I have been to both of their stores in the Phoenix area. The employees were so helpful. They climbed ladders just so I could see a book on the top shelf. Since I am not into gaming and CDs I cant comment on them. I will say that they have a great diversified selection of books that is extremely well organized. It is a treat for me when I go there. I never go with expectations in mind. I am open to whatever presents itself. I have never been disappointed. I even love the smell of the store! What better fragrance is there than that of thousands of books waiting to be read. Treat yourself to a delightful experience and stop in at Bookmans. Allow plenty of time while you are there as it is easy to get absorbed in looking and browsing while time just slips by.

I used to come in almost every day, but havent been since they repriced everything. Some records are almost priced to twenty dollars. You can buy them for new at that price. The comics almost cost as much as new as well. Not even comic stores are charging that much on some back issues. The video games are reasonable in store, but not if you compare them to online prices at say Amazon. The store has clearly slowed down, and people are not trading in the same good stuff for sale anymore. I cant find anything there like I used to be able to. Ive actually had better luck at Zia Records down the road. While I love Bookmans, its not the place it once was a couple years ago.
