I am an avid reader and spend quite a bit of money weekly at Barnes and Noble, both online and at the local store. This evening, I escorted my mother to this store so that she could buy a book for my niece, and while there I found a book myself. My mother is disabled, and I went to checkout for her. I was buying two books, separately, with two different payment methods (one mine, one my mothers). My mother was waiting near by and it was obvious that we were together. When I went to check out, I told the salesperson that I was checking these items out separately, and that we both had a coupon. The coupons both had the same code number (which as I verified with another salesperson after the fact, every copy of this coupon has the same number). This salesperson, Steven, refused to check me out. He told me that it didnt matter that I was checking out for two separate people, using separate pay methods, or that we each had coupons sent to directly to us. He said that the code could only be used one time, and would only let me purchase one item. He was incredibly rude in the way that he spoke to me, and I will not go back to this store for this very reason. This is the only store that is convenient to my location, which means that my money will now be spent at an independent seller instead of at your store. As I walked away, and went to find someone else to help me complete my purchase, he called the manager (in front of my mother) and told him that I was coming to complain about him and that I was angry because he wouldnt let me check out multiple items using the same coupon, that was not the scenario as he well knew, and the manager (only a few feet away and also within ear shot of my mother) then stated that he would back him up should I complain; which effectively negated my ability to resolve this issue in store. If this is how customers are allowed to be treated, then I will not be going back. I have been treated rudely by salespeople before, but never as blatantly as by Steven at the Tempe, AZ Tempe Marketplace store.

Their cafe doesnt allow you to bring in outside food and drinks. I spoke to the store manager about this and told her, that if thats Barnes & Nobles policy; there needs to be a sign somewhere in the store stating that fact. She disagreed and told me that they dont need to post a sign. Excuse me, whatever happened to the customer is always right??! I mentioned to her that when I worked in the food industry, the health inspector told us that we needed to post a sign for any rules meant for either customers and/or employees. We were also told by the inspector, that the sign must not be hand written, but clearly printed. I told her that I refuse to come back due to poor customer service. B&N: Why do you refuse to have outside food and drinks in your stores, especially when the store is in an outdoor mall surrounded by other stores in the food industry? This makes no sense to me. If I come in with an outside drink (lets say) and I buy a muffin (from your cafe) while looking at several books. I am a paying customer! By asking me to leave the premises, because of my bottle of tea that I didnt buy at B&N is ludicrous! What you were asking me to do was to take my business elsewhere; which is what I will do.

"Katherine P" (according to my receipt - she was young and blonde) was extremely nice! Such a good employee! I was looking for some Harry Potter puzzles and came from the Dana Park store on Val Vista and the 60 (as well as already having tried the Chandler mall store) and she was very helpful. I had requested online to have someone look for those puzzles at this store because they had them in inventory but got an email immediately that they could not be found. I was in the area on my way home when I decided to drop in to ask someone in person. THANKFULLY it was her because she checked literally everywhere she could think of and in the back room. Nothing. She got another employee to help her look through some unopened boxes in the back and after a 20 minute wild goose chase she found them!! Literally the nicest employee and eager to do her job. I dont know who gave up on my request when I went through the website but luckily Katherine P was my savior in the end. Thank you for understanding my Harry Potter obsession and being so patient!!

I hate Barnes and Noble. I was very disappointed when Borders went under. Barnes and Noble has NEVER had the books I want in stock. Author P.C Cast is getting pretty big and has a new book (the last in the series of like 12) coming out in Oct and not one Barnes and Noble in the state has the Novellas in stock. They can order them but it would take a week which is just stupid. If I wanted to wait a week I would order them online used from somewhere else for cheaper. ALWAYS a disappointment and I do not recommend unless you have a "NOOK" then you dont have to leave your house apparently. I personally like the feel of a book in my hands and its a shame all of the books stores suck.

EXTREMELY HELPFUL! I called about a Moleskine Notebook and the girl I spoke with (sadly forgot her name) literally answered ever single question I had. I needed to know, if you folded a standard piece of paper in half, which size notebook it would fit into. (Ended up being the 7 x 9.5) She went above and beyond to help me out and I couldnt be happier. I can always count on B&N to help me out! Thank you again!!!

Horrible employees. The manager was chewing the cashiers A## and everbody was Pd Off. I asked her for an item and she said "we dont carry that". But I saw it online and went there for that specifically. I looked around and found it. Then told the cashier "look, you do have it afterall" and omg was she mad at me. Terrible place. I see many B&N are closing down. No wonder.

The store itself was great. Very helpful employees. The cafe had 3 people but all seemed very confused. We ordered a pumpkin spiced latte with an added espresso shot, iced coffee and blueberry muffin. Received an iced Chai, regular pumpkin spiced latte, espresso on the side and had to ask for the muffin twice after initially ordering. I prefer the B&N at Dana Park.

One of my favorite Barnes and Nobles to go to but I have to save their music selection has gone real downhill. It seems to trying to push vinyl right now and theres no music selection hardly at all in CDs its kind of sad. The staff is still friendly though than helpful as I expect them to be there till I go in in the book selection is always good

I love Barnes and Nobel. This place is a great substitute for borders book stores when they left. I feel so relaxed there, and i could be there for hours. Great selection, clean place and friendly place. I always feel welcome. And I will always come back here when Im looking for a good read and a great experience with like minded people.
