I ordered a book for my wifes birthday. When I called and spoke to someone, I believe she said her name was Tracy, she put me on hold for 5 minutes while she spoke with the shipping manager about where the book was. She then returned to the phone and stated the shipping manager said he saw it but must have lost it and theyd ship me a new book. A book that would arrive in over a week. I purchased the book well within time for it to ship and arrive. How does it take 10 days to place an in stock item in a box and ship it. Ive purchased several autographed copies from them and have never had an issue. Though this time it was quite different, not only did they not return 4 of my previous calls to get a status, they then were not helpful at all on my last call. I asked them to make this right and overnight the book I ordered to which the shipping manager replied, no, just give him his money and let him go somewhere else. They think because they have certain authors provide autographs to popular books that they can treat their customers so badly. I may be one customer that is lost but Im publishing this all over the web and to my blog so that others will know that not all small businesses care about the customer.

LULLABY ILLUSION by Susan Joyce I gave this book five stars for several reasons, but mostly because it was written with candor, sincerity and filled with a different way of looking at life. She quotes another author who says we are not just born from our mothers, but "obliged" to be reborn within ourselves. She says our lives are in a constant flux each day of our life and we should be open to the new and get past the old ways and thoughts. The history of the Cyprus and Turkish war was an education for me and the authors telling how she lived through it was gripping. I am this authors age and I am ashamed to admit I did not know much about that war, or the horror there. This memoir was well worth reading. I recommend it to anyone who has a lust for traveling, other world culture, and appreciates how you can grow when you finally acknowledge life must be lived.

Just attended an author event there. Ive seen this author at another venue so I know he gives a nice talk. That said, the owner of this store insists on interviewing the author instead of allowing him to do his thing. She constantly interrupted him and the people asking questions. Constantly diverted the subject to her opinions and other writers (completely off the thread of the subject this author was on). It was incredibly rude and in my opinion, a slap in the face to my favorite author. No doubt this woman is well read and intelligent, but she acts as if her customers and the many times best selling author next to her are stupid and only there to be HER audience. (And pay her for the privilege) If this is the only place you can see your favorite author go ahead, but if you have any chance to see him/her at another venue...RUN!

I think I can speak for many mystery authors when I say that the Poisoned Pen is my favorite stop on a book tour. This is due entirely to Barbara Peters hospitality and hard work. She is a knight in shining armor for writers. And for readers, I dont think theres a better setting for attending the events of your favorite authors. If there was a Barbara Peters and a Poisoned Pen in every city I would be a rich man, and much better read! My last event there was a dual presentation with Nevada Barr on April 8, and Im still coming down off the high. I hope to return again and again, if Barbara will have me.

While the store has many titles and collectible first editions, the attitude of the associates leaves something to be desired. During a book signing by Brad Thor, one of the women goes up to a man, and absolutely demands he remove his gun from his person and place it in his vehicle. There was niceties, there was no "please", it was demanded, quite rudely. I understand that some people have issues with people carrying guns, but there was no need for the unnecessary confrontation. The attitude and the way the matter was carried has definitely made me less than enthused about the staff and the store.

I have been thrilled to meet all of my favorite authors, because of the Poisened Pen! I just wish there was another store in Tucson that had such WONDERFUL events! I will always drive to get to Poisened Pen events, though, because their events are worth it! Thanks and kudos to Barbara! I didnt think I would ever get to meet Patricia Cornwell, because she rarely makes public appearances. I did get to meet her around Christmastime at the beautiful Arizona Biltmore Hotel! Again, THANK YOU, Barbara! I dont know how you did it, but it was magical!

I placed an online order and got an automated response which was fine but after over a week of the order not being processed I sent an email to clarify the order and never got a response. After a week I called the store and the gentleman I spoke with on the phone wasnt much help. Needed this item for a Christmas present so had to order from amazon due to no one being able to tell me if I could get it in time for Christmas. Not impressed with their lack of customer service.

Update: Once I was able to connect with the correct person (Patrick), all my issues were promptly addressed. Actually, Patrick was able to exceed my expectations. I will gladly purchase online from this store again in the future. Dont Order Online - This store is great in person. However, there is no customer service for online purchases. If you have an issue, forget it. You will never hear back from them. They will take your money and then ignore you.

My third place. Wish I lived closer to attend more author events. This independent bookstore has a wealth of books, with an emphasis on crime fiction. Author events are wonderful. Knowledgeable staff. Barbara Peters, the owner, brings years of experience to every program she hosts. Its my favorite place to meet and hear authors. Its an award-winning bookstore, and, deservedly so.

A cute little book store in the old heart of Scottsdale. This is an independent place. Do not expect a massive book store like barnes and noble. But if you want to find a good mystery, fantasy and hang out with other people who like these then this is a good place to come. It is also one of the most common places authors come in the Phoenix area to do book signings.

I went to this store for the first time after work. They do not allow honest citizens to carry. Sad that a champion of the first amendment, is contemptuous of the second. They did not have wifi when I was there. We were ignored for the entire time, and when we did have a question, they made it seem we were inconveniencing them. Not happy. Will not return.

We always visit The Poisoned Pen when we visit Arizona since this is the home bookstore of Diana Gabaldon and my wife is a huge Outlander fan. On our last visit the women working that day were really helpful in helping pick out some books for one of our children which turned out to be a big hit.
