I was not impressed by the service here. That is one of the principal reasons to shop at a local store. The employees saw me enter the store but did not greet me, which is very unlike what I used to experience in the DC area. I spent more than ten minutes looking through the screw drawers trying to match one in my hand. No one came to help me. They did not seem busy -- I could hear one of the employees (perhaps the owner) joking and cussing with a woman near the front of the store. Then another fellow came over to look for a screw as well. We each looked for another ten minutes or so, and no one came to help us. When I checked out, the employee did not know the price of the item (which was unmarked on the shelf as well, so I didnt know it either), so he made up a number. Overall, my first "test" experience at this store did not go well. I might return here to find an item that the big box stores dont carry, such as colored caulk. But I will look around for some other local stores first.

Typical old neighborhood hardware store & I appreciate it. Ill usually call up before I come to see if theyve got what I need and they always go and check to confirm. Prices are just a little more than the big box stores but Im ok with supporting these guys. Ive always had a great experience walking in the door. Theyll offer to come to help you, but also leave me alone to look. I appreciate not being waited on hand in foot in a hardware store so I can think through my projects and these guys strike a good balance.

A Neighborhood Treasure. This is probably like the hardware store where your grandfather shopped. I had passed by there a bunch of times, on my way to Hillsboro Village or I-440, before going in for a couple of small things. Its such a cool place and the man who helped me was very attentive to me and what I was looking for. You wont get the knowledge or the service they have here at many big box stores. If you go by here often, you should stop in and take a look around. You will be glad you did.

Great service, and selection. Needed a 14" end nipper to remove nails. Nowhere else in town had them when I called around--except here. Then, they let me take the nippers out of the package and test to make sure they did what I needed before I bought. Plus, the price was equivalent to online discount tool stores. Only negative--I had to pick up some 9V batteries, which were pretty pricey.

Ive been in Hillsboro Hardware several times. Though they cant price items as low as the big stores like Lowes or Home Depot, they more than make up for it in convenience and service. Sometimes Ive asked them for advice and sometimes theyve asked me what I needed, but about everytime I go in the store getting things for some home renovation project Ive gotten good advice.

This is a great place for advice, parts, gadgets and tools for repairing anything in and around your home. If you listen to "Car Talk" on NPR, think of these guys as Car Talk for your house. They cheerfully supply you with tiny, cheap parts to keep your stuff going, and patiently explain how to install or fix stuff.

The ad slogan for this place ought to be, "No question is too dumb." They are patient, very knowledgeable and comforting to those like me who are not mechanically inclined. Maybe some items are cheaper at Home Depot but the personal service you get here is unbeatable.

I bought a small socket set, and the plastic handle on the wrench exploded apart while using it. I brought it back for a refund, and he refused. Said hed exchange only, which was worthless because he was selling a bad product. I left it on the counter and walked out.

Nice neighborhood hardware store. Im sure the bigger stores might have bigger prices but their location is very convenient and the people who work there are very friendly and knowledgeable. They also duplicate keys!
