Im not a fan of Best Buy - the technology store for people who dont know very much about technology, and the discount store for people who dont know you can get all this stuff cheaper online. The only reason to even go to a brick & mortar store anymore is for the geek factor - getting to talk with people who care and are knowledgeable about whatever product, shopping with the people who are an insight resource for the thing you also like. Its fun, helpful & socially positive to spend locally that way. There ARE some people at BB who fit that bill - mostly younger guys from crappy small towns who like technology but have had little access to the tech world so far, or theyd be making 5x the dough working a real tech job. Because some of those guys have stretched earlobes or less that corporate-ideal haircuts, or just less conservative-jerk looking faces they are usually cleaning up a spill in Aisle 3 while some straight-laced nincompoop who knows NOTHING at all is harassing me while Im trying to shop for things he cant correctly pronounce. It seems like every time I go in there (against my better judgement) Ill be standing trying to decide which length of cable I really need, and some bulky manager type who shouldnt be selling anything more high tech than a lawn-mower or a cordless drill will saunter up to bother me with loud & wrong info, claiming they dont carry the thing Im holding in my hand & planning to maybe buy, and try to sell me something else thats wrong, in an arrogant &/or condescending tone. The corporate headquarters needs to have some 20-something tech-heads write a quiz testing knowledge of video game engines and linux references in pop-culture, and use THAT to choose team leads and managers rather than who owns the most polyester button-downs or who co-managed an iHop once or whatever fubar-ed method they now use to assign rank & tasks. If you know the difference between a land line & a LAN line, you really have no business walking into a Best Buy.

This is a review for two things at the Madison East Best Buy, the person who sold me a product and the Geek Squad who installed it. 1) Matt (I think) now works in the Pacific kitchen center but was sent over to help me choose an auto audio system. He used to work in the auto audio area, so I got help from someone who didnt offer to read the back of the box with me. THANK YOU! I told him what I wanted, what I didnt need and he helped me pick out a radio. The installation was going to require some extras and he assembled the entire kit, then walked me over to the installation area to get an appointment. Throughout the entire process I felt as though I was being listened to, thought about and that he was being very thorough. 2) Two weeks later I went to the Geek Squad garage behind the Best Buy to have the equipment installed. The person told me it would be an hour, it was 50 minutes, and then he went through the unit to show me how it worked. Very friendly and thorough. I have every confidence in both the unit and the installation and would recommend them to anyone needing to get an auto audio system installed. The ONLY thing keeping this from being a 5-star review is finding the Geek Squad garage. While it would seem an easy task to find the back of a store, the road and parking lot configuration in the East Town Mall area is nightmarish. Best Buy, you need better signage to help customers get to the garage!

This has been one of the worst experiences Ive ever had to deal with. I spent maybe $500 on hardware for my PC. Then I was told it was incompatible by their online support. Then I waited the next day and found out that it was actually compatible in the first place. Then I realized something so insignificant was the problem in the first place. Where this couldve been solved within a couple of minutes Ive spent an entire day and 1/2 trying to solve it. The incompetence of these people is staggering and you would think their employees are all from some halfway house . I spent 60 Dollars in taxes to get to there and from their home . Based off of what Ive been told to do by their office , then arriving there and finding out whoever was supposed to be working there called in sick so I had to go back home. No one has offered me compensation for this and they actually treated me aggressively when they heard my situation from when I arrived there and no one was able to help me. These were all foreseeable issues and were directly because of the incompetence of the store . I will retract this post if they somehow and someway compensate for the time and grief thats been put into this. Otherwise please note that this is not a place that you should deal with , it is merely a disreputable place for incompetents to seek employment.

The five stars are specifically for a guy by the name of Craig in the cell phone department. I went into this Best Buy already seriously annoyed by the Sprint store on Lien road and was subsequently in no mood to talk to anybody that sells stuff for a living. Im not a personable guy to start with, but Craig stepped up and managed to break the ice anyway. This was supposed to be strictly research for my first ever smart phone. Ive been holding out on buying a smart phone for years so I had a lot of very basic and basically stupid questions to ask. Craig was patient, knew how to answer me with cognizance and without talking over my head, and had good knowledge of his products. After Craig helped me narrow down the best phone that might actually survive me, I went home and did some more research on calling plans & service providers and came back cutting it a little close to their closing time. I had a few more questions and Craig was, yet again, reliable and helpful. He got the phone set up and running for me and, even after all the paperwork was done, he was still taking the time to teach me some of the functions on the phone while they were shutting down the store. That kind of customer service was much appreciated. Thanks for putting up with me Craig. Show them this and tell em I said to give you a raise.

Great variety of electronics, home appliances, etc. However, recently, I had one issue with the purchase of an Xbox One Controller for PC: The pricing for the Xbox One controllers were few and far between. The Wireless box variant of the Xbox One Controller (USB Cord, Dongle, AA Batteries and Controller) was incorrectly stocked on the 49.99 USD Xbox One Wired Controller area, and the wired variant (USB Cable, No Dongle, no AA Batteries) was on SALE for its NORMAL price of 49.99 USD at the store, and was incorrectly stocked in the computer gaming aisle next to the wireless dongles for the Xbox One controllers. There was no actual price listing for Xbox One controllers in the Computer Gaming aisle, only dongles (29.99 USD alone), PS4 dongles, non-microsoft controllers, etc. In addition, there was a third variant of the Xbox One controller which included the wireless dongle, Battery play pack, USB cord, etc. for about 67 USD. While this is a nice variety, all of these were spread out in the store. The original wired one mentioned here was by the non-gaming keyboards and mice, where basically no other gaming peripheral was to be found. This means the wireless non-battery pack version (AA Batteries only) has no actual store shelf space in the entire store, but the box is stocked by the store.
