I want this to be a very unbiased review, but thats hard, actually having been there. They can be very very overpriced if you dont know exactly what you are looking for. For instance, they try to sell Pentium 4 laptops for 300 dollars. (P4 laptops are not worth 50 bucks now days). They dont have much newer technology, and they wont sell the really really old stuff they have. The store is very disorganized. If you know little to nothing about computers, you might be easily tricked into believing that this is a cool or awesome store or that they have lost of good stuff. They are very obtuse and the saying "the customer is always right" doesnt exist here. They will argue with you and make you want to never come back. They always seem "busy" and very unwilling to help you with questions or locating products (I.E. CPUs, GPUs, MOBOs.). Basically, their customer service is nonexistent. However, that being said, this is the ONLY store like this in the Redmond area. Because of that and for some other unknown reason, I still stop by every now and again. Its worth a drop by, but be very careful and do your price research before hand. Otherwise you will spend six times the cost of the normal price. Also there was another guy who worked there that is almost never there anymore. He was nice to work with. I should also say that this review is derived from about 10 years of going to this store.

Ok so my laptop stopped charging. Nothing else was giving me problems. I was sure it was either just the charger or the port. I went to Computer Stop in bellevue last saturday which was bought out by hard drives northwest. I trusted them because years ago they were who I did all my business with. They did a disgnostics today (monday), They said the charger and the port were just fine, and that my issue was a bad motherboard. They could not give me an exact estimate other then it would cost anywhere from 165.00 to 400.00 for the repairs. I am a single parent mom, I do not have 400.00 to spend like that. So I told them to give me back my computer so I could get a second opinion. They wanted to charge me 50.00 for their diagnostics. They did not tell me anything about there being a diagnostics fee! I started crying and they let me go free of charge. On my way home I stopped at Computer Surplus. Guess what guys? My charger was bad! These guys saved me 400.00!!! They are honest. They only charged me 35.00 for a brand new charger which is half the price of places like batteries plus. As long as its the same techs I will only do my business with computer surplus! These guys are the best! Thank you so much. I left with tears of joy. Its hard to find an honest business these days!

Ive been going to Computer Surplus for the last 4 or 5 years. Im far from a computer whiz, but when I first started going there, I played a little dumber than I am, just to see if they would try to take advantage of me. They never did. In fact, I often leave the place feeling a little guilty, like I took advantage of them. Theyre extremely helpful in diagnosing problems Ive had with my computer, and a few times when I go in expecting to to spend $100+ dollars, but end up leaving having spent less than $20. Several times I felt like I came out so far ahead, that I end up buying something like a compressed air can, just to up my bill a little so I dont feel as guilty. Ive had them put together a few high end gaming systems for me as well. The last time I did it, I bought all of the parts from various other stores in order to get the exact brands and specs I wanted. They didnt say anything, other than to point out that they had the exact same brand of the tower I bought, but in a smaller model and about $40 cheaper. I went with their tower since I had no reason for the oversized tower, and with the $40 I saved when I returned the old tower, I turned around and bought another game for my PC. Pretty sweet deal for me!

I love this place . . .. its local and a small business...which I feel good supporting. Plus anytime Ive come in for one reason or another ...they are always very welcoming and super helpful. Ive recently brought in a laptop that they had repaired for me a year prior ( hard drive and battery was replaced ) which in the end was a fabulous deal , plus they replaced the battery for free...I was extremely pleased with the work! In any case ....last week my laptop crashed again , so I brought it back in. And to my surprise , after entering my info. in their system , he realized that it had been repaired the year previously and told me there would be no charge. THAT IS SO IMPRESSIVE.....to find businesses these days that have any sort of integrity and actually stand by their work and products is very hard to come. Personally ...THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES TO THEIR CHARACTER AND BUSINESS PRACTICES ! I would confidently recommend this business to any of my family and friends , they are always helpful , friendly and professional .....not to mention affordable and reliable.....THANK YOU SO MUCH LEE!!!!

Ive shopped at Computer Surplus for years, bought several systems and countless components from them, and have always been very happy with them. They are one of those all-but-gone "mom and pop" shops that (a) deals honestly and fairly with all of their customers, (b) stands behind what they sell, and (c) makes you feel like they are genuinely happy to have your business. On more than one occasion, Ive seen them go out of their way to offer a less expensive/lower price alternative to whatever the customer came in and asked for. No "high pressure" sales here! (And yes, the shop is messy... What do you expect? Would you also complain about a "messy" salvage yard??) A couple of other reviews say "best in town." I say "best in class"!

I I recently had my laptop serviced with Computer Surplus. Based on all the positive reviews, I was quite optimistic. It turned out to be a nightmare. First and foremost they dont communicate well what the problem is. When we provided our laptop for servicing we were told specifically that our data would be backed up. And after a couple of days when we got our serviced laptop back, surprise no data, no backup. Shocked I called them and they said "well ,you need to tell us that you wanted a back up!". I hate businesses which care so less for promises they make and then when questioned lie about it. I dont mins paying the additional $$$, but the next time I prefer to go to a place which still has some morals and trust doing business..

The Computer Surplus store personally is the best place EVER because I am always seeing old computer and stuff like that. One day they had a Windows 98 FE for sale I bought it but when they did a test run a lot of the inside parts were missing so we wrote our phone number down and they would call us when it was fixed. Just recently I bought a Win98 off EBay and it didnt come with a power cord so I went to the store to buy one. As I was walking through the sections of the store I noticed a Windows 98 with a sticky note on it saying "reserved September 2013" I wonder if its mine probably not....... BUT JUST MAYBE
