DO NOT, repeat, NEVER buy a bird from any PetCo. They live in squalid conditions and suffer imensely at the hands of incompetent employees. When I went in, their sun conure was literally throwing himself at the glass wall of his cage (birds should never have glass cages, btw) and calling out to me out of lonliness. Birds go crazy being alone and it was quite apparent that this was one desperate for human contact, as I have never seen a bird so friendly with a complete stranger. I asked to take him out and pet him and give him some love but the employee told me that unless I was interested in buying him, that wasnt an option. They price their birds about twice as much as reputable breeders, by the way. His cage was very small and gave him no room to stretch his wings, and every time he tried to fly I was worried that he was going to break his wing feathers. Another bird had a frayed and broken tail. His water dish was filthy and yellow and it broke my heart to see him drinking from it. Suffice it to say, PetCo is like a concentration camp for birds, without the gas chambers. Please, VOTE WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD and dont support them by giving them your business. Despite what they say, they care nothing for their animals and they do not deserve your hard-earned money. Also, do your research and think long and hard before getting a bird in the first place. They are very demanding and rewarding pets and their lives are not to be trifled with. Consider adopting a rehome instead.

I love this store and their salt water set up. But their customer service/ ordering/ call back is unbelievably horrible. I ordered a salt water fish early December, I was told it should be in next shipment and I gave them my number and my boyfriends. 2 weeks pass and NO CALLS. I called, myself and spoke with Vicky who said they got an order in but werent sure if the fish I ordered was here. She said shed have Sarah in the aquatics department call me once she was off of lunch. NO CALL. I then called them the next day and spoke with Vicky again and she said she was sorry Sarah never called and "things happen" I told her understand but I havent gotten a single call from them since I place the order over 2 and half weeks ago. She apologized further and searched there data base for a special order and wasnt able to place an order. Vicky then said the manager Tim will be in tomorrow at 1pm and she will have him call me. As of today at 3pm I received NO CALL. So I myself called and asked for Tim he said they placed two orders for the fish I ordered and apologized for not calling because he didnt get the message. I asked he actually call me once it comes in and I dont have to continue following up. I have never dealt with such crap customer service. The dont communicate messages or follow through with servicing clients and receiving orders. Worst customer service ever. So let down and frustrated.

New groomers are incredible!! I have a standard poodle puppy who has just begun going to the groomers and after going to other groomers around town I decided to try out Petco, yes, i had my reservations because they are a "chain" But the new grooming manager, I believe her name is Leanne, is fabulous and quickly put those nerves to ease. She is caring and gentle and works wonders with not just my dog but any dog I have seen on the table with her. The rest of her staff is just as incredibly talented. It is amazing to see how much my pups tail wags when he sees where we are, and how much he loves every single one of the girls working in there. Seriously. He wiggles with glee, and its hard getting him out of there after his appointments. I have an easier time brushing and bathing him myself because of the obvious positive reinforcement work they do while grooming, less chewing on the brush and more loving being brushed with each visit! Its also really cool that they remember his name and him whenever we come by. Give them a chance. New management has made this an awesome pet salon.

I am looking to buy a frog and i have a cage set up im about to leave for petco so i decide to call them to make sure that they have what i want and heres how the conversation goes: (word for word) "Hey, can you get me a list of your frogs?" "Hold on let me get a specialist on the phone." "Ok." (music) "Hi this is Debbi(i think) how can I help you?" "Oh, i was on hold because i need a list of your frogs that you have in stock? "Oh well we have a lot of animals and alot of people and it would take over an hour for us to do that type of work over the phone." "What? I just need a list of frogs how many do you have, 4?" "We have a lot of people and a lot of animals over there." "I just need frogs." "Sorry, you can come in and I can help you." "(laugh) Yeah its alright Im never shopping at Petco again, bye bye." In my opinion, if your customer service is too lazy to take 2 minutes out of their day to help someone, then your store shouldnt even be up." Sorry petco, thats the last straw. 1/5*

We shop at this store all the time. We just left the store after a terrible interaction with someone who says hes the freight guy. A bag of dog food we picked up to buy had obviously been peed on by a dog, but we didnt notice till we already grabbed it. We found the closest employee to tell him about it just so it would be pulled so no one else got pee on them. We then asked if there was any chance there were any other bags in the bag and he replied "there is less than zero chance of that, I can go check even though theres no chance to pacify you, but there is none. I can wipe the pee off the bag, I mean do you only not want that food cause theres pee on it?" He had a really horrible attitude and we are never rude to employees. He also left the peed on dog food on the sales floor and didnt clean it or move it at all. Well be contacting management. My boyfriend and I both work retail and that is no way to treat customers.

The sales staff had no knowledge whatsoever of the Hampster I was trying to buy. And this is an animal they carry at most Petcos I have ever been to. I was told to read over the printed piece of paper they carry is all. I called ahead and asked if they had Teddybear Hampsters available and I was told they did. I take public transportation and after finding out they didnt have ANY I was furious. They told me to come back two weeks later, and gave me a time when they would be able to bring some out to the floor, and so I agreed to come back. When I did, they only had one left and nobody knew if it was a male or female. Wow. So instead of reserving a male Teddybear Hampster for me and being accurate over the phone, I ended up with an unknown sex a couple weeks later with a ton of hassle.
