This place is god awful. The last time I went there was a rat being literally eaten by another rat, like pull a chunk of her skin off as she struggled. I clapped my hands to surprise hannibal lecter and snatched his victim out of the cage. I took her to the front in shaking hands and told them what I saw and asked to take the rat. The guy justkinda shrugged it off and said something about a big male that was mean. So uh, seperate him from the others? This mofo still charged me five bucks. I also spent money (somewhere else, obviously) on vetricin in a vain attempt to save this rat, who died within the next 24 hours. I wish i could upload pictures to show you how severe and extensive the wounds were. Bites all over her neck and around her back legs and genitals, big patches of skin missing from her back. Even with an extremely aggressive rat this level of damage would take time and be a loud affair. Every single time I have seen overstuffed cages of sickly neglected animals here, but this was the very worst time.

Very small, no frills bird and fish store. My daughter purchased a cockatiel for me from this place last February. The lady who "loves birds and knows them pretty well" couldnt tell me if the cockatiel we were buying was a male of a female. We took it anyway...but getting it home, after $170 for a bird and a cage, we saw that someone had cut off the birds tail. Granted, we didnt look closely...but I figured no problem, well work with it. I took him back to this shop yesterday-much to my heartbreak, I was not the right human for him-and was asked "who cut off his tail?" while being looked at suspiciously! As I was upset enough having to return him, I would not tolerate being accused of animal cruelty!!! At least they will make another $70 to resell him. I do not recommend buying a bird from this place. I dont recommend buying ANYTHING from this store. And I feel for the poor animals who are there. :(

Cool store and friendly employees, but these guys sold me a fire eel yesterday without mentioning that they get absolutely massive. I said I had a cory community tank and asked them if he would fit in there. Haha. Guess Im getting a huge tank soon to accommodate mister eel. Upping my stars after going there a second time. Twice now they have had the nicest people working there, making me feel very welcome. The employees know what theyre talking about, or wasnt scared to ask another employee when they were unsure. They were also able to educate me and ask questions without being patronizing at all. It is a little messy in the back room, and tanks have some algae, but so what. The fish like the algae and seemed very healthy. Everything Ive purchased from this store is also doing really well. Will definitely come back again, and this may even be the local fish store Im settling on.

So sad and disappointing. The rabbits are kept in a enclosure thats rusty and has no floor to stand on. The Macaw that was allowed free roam had lice. The other birds had to small of enclosures and there was lots of poop. Some of them showed signs of stress. The birds also did not have bending perches so they can get bumblefoot. The manager or owner or whoever was in charge was trying to keep the Macaw having lice a secret. He shushed the employees when they tried to warn us. The fish tanks were small and disgusting. Lots of junk in the back. The hermit crabs were in a tiny tank and didnt have any water. The turtles were pushing eachother and were trying to escape, they couldnt get up on the "land" in there tank because there wasnt enough space. This place is cruel and shouldnt exist. Im going to do everything in my power to shut this place down or improve conditions there.

Pets are kept in poor conditions, floors are worn out and gross. My biggest complaint is the rats, to many they may seem like a nasty rodent... which they are not they make amazing pets as I run a small rattery. The conditions are not only unsanitary but unhealthy for the animals. Not proper caging which leads to sickness, rats kept in tanks get URIs which is an upper respiratory infection which can cause death. Nobody wants a sickly pet! Now if the store is reading this, I suggest you handle the rats from babies to make them friendly so that your customers arent getting timid pets that claw at you and try to get away or bite you every time you pick them up. Secondly change the cage, they need a bar cage with 1/2 inch spacing so none escape and no wood shavings the dust from most of the wood shavings can also cause URIs! Thanks.

Midway Tropical Fish & Pets is what I’ve been searching for! Ever since I was a boy, I have fond memories of the local pet store I used to ride my bicycle to just to see all of the amazing animals on display. The staff is very knowledgeable and polite. Although at first glance it may appear unorganized and cluttered, Midway Tropical Fish & Pets in my opinion is what most pet lovers are looking for. All tanks and enclosures are well kept and clean. Unlike the Mega pet stores that filter many of their tanks together through a single filtering system which can transmit an illness throughout them all, Midway Tropical Fish & Pets treats each tank with individual care. After finding this treasure, I will exclusively patronize this local business for all of my needs from now on and encourage all to do the same.

First and last time I will ever go to this store. When I went in to look at the birds there were literal sugar ants all inside the bedding, the cages were coated in poop, and all of there water had poop inside of it. I know they had a sign up about the water being green because of the multi vitamin, but I dont think that counts for something floating and molding inside there. I then went to talk to an employee by the small animals and they told me that when one of the animals bites a different employee that employee will slam the animal against the cage and kill it. Absolutely disgusting. I will never go here again. If you cant find the time to take care of all of those animals to the point where theres poop everywhere then maybe cut down on your stock. Only things that looked happy were the fish.

The staff at the Midway tropical fish store are amazing and know alot about fish. Like most businesses they will try to upsell you on stuff but as long as you can afford it, its OK. The only bad thing I can say about this place is the area it is located in. It is in a very bad neighborhood. People will hit you up for money in the parking lot so they can get beer with it. Thats right, the area is full of winos, drunks, gangsters (some wannabe). The area is run down and high-traffic. Just be careful. If you want to be safe go there between 9am and 1pm. Lock you car, dont leave valuables there and check on your car every few minutes. Other than that they get the best fish on wednesdays there.
