Full disclosure: I have a history of vision challenges, and it is difficult for me to discriminate among my facial muscles so as to follow commands to, e.g., open one eye, et cetera. I also have a history of eye surgery and cerebral palsy which results in nystagmus, particularly in my left eye. All of these things make it difficult to examine me. However, when I saw Dr. Paxman, I did not report any vision problems or recent changes in vision and, indeed, I see better through my current prescription than I have in years. All of the foregoing challenges mean that any vision professional who examines me has a very narrow window in which to get it right when prescribing lenses. I needed a functional vision evaluation to renew my drivers license. Dr. Paxman WEAKENED my prescription and told me I need new glasses. I do not have vision insurance, so I had to pay using Care Credit. I suppose the "good doctor" (I use that term advisedly) can tell me I need a new prescription as a condition of renewing my license. I told him, "Doc, it seems as though youre trying to tell me something in order to sell me something." "Oh, no!" he replied, "I would never do that!" Yeah. Uh-huh. Right. He can force me to pay for a new prescription out of my own pocket, but he cant force me to pick up his wonderful new prescription. Its still sitting in his office, and thats where it will stay. If he wants to earn back my trust, he can put my current prescription in the new frames at no additional cost. Then, I MIGHT think about doing additional business with him. Until then ...

Let me first start off by saying that this is the first time Ive ever written a review online. But this was something I couldnt ignore. This place is horrible! Im only giving it one star because of one of the nice receptionist who read my son books during my exam. Other than that, its terrible. I only went in because of an eye infection and have had foggy vision. The doctor first tried to up sale me to get a certain exam that checks the back of my eye. Which i agreed. Somehow my ending bill was $124. Thats 124 when nothing was resolved other than itll clear up on its own. When i asked why it was so high for just a quick medical visit, they said it was because he gave me a contact exam. Which makes zero sense since i have a viral infection which is causing my foggy vision. Why would you give someone an eye exam for a prescription when their vision will clear up in a few weeks? When I stated that, they said it was because he "started" it but wanted to see me back in a few weeks to finish. I never once agreed to this contact exam. And clearly I wasnt leaving with a prescription in hand since my eyesight was too foggy to complete. I simply came in to make sure nothing else was going on with my eyes. They refunded the eye exam money back, but after I waited for over an hour, had to talk to the doctor about it again, and still had to argue with the lady. I will never go back there again and I will make sure no one I knows will either.

i went to american fork eye vision center in august of 2005 and never received a bill of any sort, but my insurance would have covered any costs at the time of service,,now 4 years later i am receiving 2 collection notices from them for a outrageous amount due to their lack of proper processing. so not only do they want a large sum of money but they are hurting my credit. this company seems to have many issues. i would never go back there and suggest that anyone who does go there demand that they see the proper papers saying what and what not is covered and what will be out of pocket or else in 4 years you may also end up with collections out of the blue for a big amount plus interest that will hurt your credit.very messed up and wrong. very unethical. they are charging me for extra eye tests that was never received. they are able to go and see i owe money yet they do not have my insurance information that was given at the time. so how do i know they are not trying to charge me for something else. or someone else tests. i strongly recommend not going here.they seem to be trying to con people for money.

After visiting several eye doctors since moving to Utah, I have finally found one that I trust! Previously, I have felt that other eye doctors were over priced and lacked good "bedside manners." On my first visit to this office, I was so impressed by the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to answer my questions. Prior to my seeing the doctor, the technician explained the purpose of every test and was really friendly. In fourteen years of eye exams, this was the first time anyone had explained all of those tests to me. Dr. Paxman was so kind to explain everything that he was doing, and his concern for the health of my eyes was genuine. I was also impressed by his willingness to be fair with prices. He explained the cost of each test before performing it as well as whether or not it would be covered by my insurance. There was only one test that was not covered, and he was nice enough to reduce the cost by half if I could pay for it that day. I feel fortunate to have found such a wonderful eye doctor!

Horrible experience! Insulting to my wife! After trying 3 sample contact lenses, each one causing discomfort or poor vision, my wife tried a 4th sample, which worked OK after a slight modification. She was charged a fee when she picked up the fourth pair (even though the box states “You should not have been charged money for this product”.) She has since objected to this charge and has received the following response from American Fork Vision Center. "The real reason you are unhappy is you are not receiving unlimited free contact lenses. You are abusing the contact lens trial program and wasting the staff and doctors time." She has chosen to fill her prescription through Costco rather than this business. In my opinion: Find a polite practice that won’t consider you a waste of their time.

I went in (on a saturday morning mind you) to get a new prescription for contacts. The overall exam process was nice and the cost of it was reasonable. Dr. Paxman helped me get daily contact lenses and gave me suggestions on how to care for them (since my eyes have rejected the bi-weekly contact lenses in years past). A few weeks later my eye suddenly started hurting like nothing else and nothing I did could fix it. They were able to get me in the same day and resolve the issue (ingrown eyelash) Dr. Paxman was humorous and was telling stories to distract me from the pain while he was trying to find out what was going on. I would/have recommend AFVC / Dr.Paxman to anyone who needs a new eye dr.

Poor service, after three weeks I called the office to question where my glasses were. They were "conveniently" to be ready within the next few days. I was promised glasses within 5-7 days. They used the excuse of the holiday. There was no communication from the office as to the delay or when the glasses will be ready. They were not willing to credit me the amount I had already deposited when it was their error in not delivering the product as promised. Does it really take three weeks to get a pair of glasses? They have lost my business and will not be receiving any recommendations from me.
