We wanted to purchase the ProForm ZT6 treadmill running in Academys ad this week for $499. My wife went in on a Friday to purchase the unit, but since it would not fit in her car, she offered to pay for it in full at that time and return to pick it up. The store refused to allow her to purchase it at that time and pick it up the next day once she had a vehicle it could be loaded into. The next day I went to the store to purchase the treadmill with a vehicle large enough to load the treadmill into. I waited in the treadmill dept. for a few minutes then had to locate a salesperson myself. The salesperson promised to help me after assisting the customer he was helping. I waited at least ten minutes then found another sales person. I advised him I wanted to purchase the above treadmill and he said he would have to go to the backroom to check it being in stock. Ten minutes later he returned and said it was out of stock. When I asked for a rain check he stated he could not give a rain check for the sales price (sale ended that night). I returned home and called the manager who told me rain checks could not be provided. When I told the manager my wife came in and offered to pay for it a day earlier, he said they would not allow that either because the unit might be damaged while in the stores possession and I would be the owner. When I asked what would happen if I had paid for the treadmill that day and the store personnel damaged it while retrieving it and loading it in my vehicle? He offered no response to that question. He only stated this was corporate policy. He stated he only had 3 units, including the display, at the time of the ad breaking. He made no effort to rectify the problem, other than me purchasing the display that I had just seen children playing on in a "mistreating" way, but only offered an apology. Also, Academys ad stated the regular price was $599 ($100 off) for this treadmill but the in-store display stated the treadmill was regularly $549. Not much in the way of customer service in this store!

Fair warning, this is long. Academy, I am very shocked and appalled by how your staff treats its customers. The people who work in a store represent the store, and today I got to see how unprofessional and mean Tylers Academy can be. Yesterday, my husband and I went into Academy in Tyler to purchase new workout clothes and shoes. We had fun shopping, found what we wanted, and got to the front register to check out. When we went to pay, we had a problem with out card and didnt have any cash on us, we had to get a Customer Service worker over to our lane to cancel our sale. Then, we had the store hold our purchases (since we live about an hour away and it was pretty well into the evening). Today, we woke up and got ready and headed to Tyler to pick up our purchases. I went in (since the hold was under my name) and told them I was there to pick up and pay for my items on hold. The customer service guy was very nice, and went and grabbed my bags from the cabinet. When he sat them down in front of me, the tag I had filled out for my hold had "GAY" scrawled across it. I was so shocked, so appalled, and so embarrassed. I was upset because this was a deliberate and malicious attack on my husband and I, from an inconvenience I am sure they see every day, and are trained in. I pointed at the slur and asked the guy why that was there. He looked down, read it, and immediately crumbled it up and started apologizing. I ended up standing there silently, in shock, and payed for my purchases. When I reached my vehicle, I told my husband what had happened and he, understandably upset, went back inside for a full refund and to complain to the managers. They issued the refund, and told us they were going to be looking into the matter. While I am happy that management is looking into this, after reading quiet a few reviews, I now see that Tyler Academy is pretty much known to have terrible customer service. I have shopped here since it first opened, pretty regularly, but I dont see myself doing that any time soon.

Couple things, I am a mid-high valued customer at academy. So I am giving them 5 stars, not because of this particular store but because of how friendly corporate office is and several employees there are. However, the employee named Alyssa made a false accusation against me that I was "hitting on her" and then changed her story to "cussing her out" when all I did that was negative was just tell her that she is an idiot because I have met her before outside of work. Then the manager just outright bans me from the store because "I wont have one of my girls cussed at" You just lost a high value customer by being a retard. I will still shop at academy at Lindale or other spots, but not here until the manager changes. At the same time, I do not want Academy to suffer in terms of corporate level. They are one of the friendliest store ever. Just avoid this store.

Terrible because of one cashier named James. While I was waiting in a very long line I removed the hangers from some shirts to speed up the checkout process. When I reached the counter James started shoving the hangers back in the shirts like they had personally offended him by being on his desk. When I told him I didnt want the hangers (hint: I removed them from my purchase) he slung the remaining hangers onto the floor behind him. I can only assume that the hanger rack at his desk was full and he didnt know what to do with the new hangers. Congratulations you have terrible customer service.

This is nice store. Stock is maintained and staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Academy overall is a great store if you are a man or a skinny woman. They have no offerings for plus size women. 3X in men. Nothing over XL in womens clothing. They must think we dont have broad shoulders or larger parts. They are not reaching a large portion of buyers. Their loss.

This place got four stars just from having huge trees in the parking lot. Not just beautiful, its nice coming out and having your car shaded from the hot sun. The staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about their products. That earned the fifth star.

I was looking for something for me and my women. The sales personal was friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I ended up buying what I wanted. If they would have been rude or didnt care I would have walked out. I recommen shopping there.

You wont find the selection nor organization of a larger chain like Dicks or Sports Authority, but it is definitely a nice store with a decent selection. I have found everything I needed to find here, although the choices might be a tad slim.
