I own two mountain bikes, they were both free to me (hand-me downs) They are both Mongoose mountain bikes, I am guessing originating from a big box store such as Walmart. Both bikes need some minor adjustments. Namely, the gears need to be adjusted and on one bike the wheels need to be straightened "trued". My parents recently purchased two bicycles from Bike Lane. They were super impressed by the service they received there. I called up Bike Lane to see whether they would service bikes not purchased there. The person on the phone said Yes. I then told him, I suspected that the bikes may have come from Walmart or some equivalent. He then said he could NOT service them, because of "Liability issues". He said other Bike shops might be willing to offer me service but Bike Lane, could not. I feel like this decision likely cost them a future customer. I was definitely looking to upgrade my bikes in the coming year. I just wanted to ensure that I was really interested in riding before making the investment in quality bikes. He actually recommended that I go to a competitor.. That tells me pretty much everything I need to know about this place. If they wont make a simple gear adjustment/wheel truing then I dont think they need any of my future business. Very unfortunate, that they came up short on customer service. So if you bought a bike from them, or own a bicycle that they dont choose to turn their nose up at.. they will likely give great service. They apparently just dont like to be helpful to the rest of us. (oh, and thought I would mention.. --- I CALLED THE ONE IN THE SAM MOON SHOPPING CENTER) **UPDATE** I just called Bike Barn. They apparently have no issues working on my bicycles. They are further away from me, but they will service my bicycles. Guess I know who values me as a customer more.

Im new to cycling and training for my first triathlon. I went to several Bike stores in the area and my gut said go with this place. So I bought a Cervelo S2 and I love it. The service has been excellent and they are very knowledgeable. One of the best selling points for me was free lifetime adjustments, labor, and fittings. The other locations offered a discount on maintenance but still charged 50 plus dollars for each service. Most of the negative reviews i read deal with Bike Lane only servicing Bikes that were purchased at their location. Thats not a fair review. Think about it people. They offer FREE maintenance for their customers. This obviously increases the number of Bikes they service. They have a choice to make, charge everyone for maintenance on all Bikes or offer FREE lifetime maintenance on Bikes purchased from their location. Providing service to everyone would mean they would likely have to charge everyone just so they would have time to work on that many Bikes. FREE maintenance results in Huge Lifetime savings for customers. This is a WIN WIN. We save money and they build a loyal lifetime customer. Thank You Bike Lane. You Guys Rock!

I am new to the Woodlands area and just moved up here from the city. Bike Barn and Houston Southwest Cycle has been my bike shop, and I was in need of a tune up without having to travel 45 mins to the city to get my bike tuned up. Needless to say I should have paid attention to the reviews, so I blame myself for the crappy service I got. I asked for a basic tune up with replacing 2 tires, and re-tapping the handle bars. What I picked up was a $180 bill for replacing 2 tires (Continental Grand Prix), and re-tapping of the bars. I asked the guy why the frame was dirty and the gears caked with wear grease. He literally said he did not perform the tune up so he didnt charge me for it. HOW the FREAK do you charge someone $180 for tires and bar tape? I got him to refund me $40 since I proved to him that Grand Prix tires were not $70 each and I could have installed it myself without an installation charge. He then proceeded to tell me how my front derailers needed work which is why I took my bike in to him for a "TUNE UP". WORST SERVICE and crooks. I would never recommend and I cant blame anyone but myself for getting robbed by Bike Lane.

My first visit to the store I felt I got good service...and I purchased a bike...I came back a couple months later to buy a bike rack I planned a bike trip with a friend...while attempting to put the bike on the rack it didnt mount...i called the store to ask why I couldnt put the female bike on the pink bike rack and was informed that I had to purchase a special bar to mount my bike which I needed 3 of them at $30 a piece...after asking why didnt you tell me that when I purchased it, i had very little help they told me they didnt know I was mounting a female bike so they didnt tell me that um HELLO I am a female and I am purchasing a pink bike rack so needless to say with no sympathy from them I am not spending nearly $100 more just to mount the rack I will be returning it and never to do business with them again....the funny thing was I called academy and the young girl that answered the phone informed me of what I might need to mount a female bike ...geeeh!

Purchased a Caad10 and they did not adjust the limit screws on the rear derailleur. this made the chin drop off both sides of the cassette and I have a big gash on one side of the frame, and chips in the paint on the stay. This also locked up the back wheel on the second failure, causing a flat spot on the rear tire (also dangerous). Poor service all around, obviously the initial service, and now the owner trying to CYA on it. He blamed the chain for it and said the limit screws are off and he had to adjust them, yet only because the chain dropping caused them to move. This guy is crazy if he expects me to believe that; it is impossible for these screws to move mechanically from what happen. I have lifetime service on this bike at this shop, and I can guarantee I will never go there to use it. If I need service I will pay another shop to do the work.

I went to the store a few weeks ago on a Saturday...they were very busy, but it took FOREVER for someone to help me. Even then, they had no way of translating bike speak to laymens terms and didnt seem concerned that I could not follow what they were talking about. I ended up getting a bike from a relative to use for my race in October. I called Bike Lane to see how much they would charge for assembly & fitting (the bike was in pieces; they had to ship it to me). I was told they were too busy...they could assemble it for me, but "did not have time to do a fitting any time soon" I also need to purchase bike shorts, helmet, shoes, etc., and am gladly taking my business elsewhere, to Bike Barn, who gave me excellent customer service and was able to set an appt for assembly AND fitting for next week. Bike Lane...FAIL.
