Academy Sports has always been the reliable place to shop for those sporting goods that you may need. I have purchased many great quality items from Academy, everything from Camping gear, clothing, cooking items, Disc Golf supplies, sunglasses and so much more. With my personal experience and high frequency of visiting there (and all the departments) I cannot understand the previous reviews of poor customer service; though that is their opinion and they are allowed it. I have no vested interest there, I am a simple customer and Yelper that finally got around to actually write the review. What I can say: - I have purchased off season items (like BBQ grills) there and the managers have discounted it since I was buying it "as is" and it was the last one of that type...so it helped clear the shelf space - when I have bought those off season items, they even threw in a cover FOR FREE without asking; to assure I would be happy with my purchase - I have been there to get my hunting/fishing licenses (as a disabled Vet) and they never hesitated with the paperwork that was needed or afforded to me by the State of Texas (as a disabled Vet since I get mine for free) - I visit the shoe department frequently (always looking for a deal) and I see the staff always doing their best to keep the area organized.. personally, this seems to be the busiest common area of the store year round. - Customer returns, I have never had an issue. Most frequently over the years I have had the need to return sunglasses because of a poor lens, etc. (not their fault since you cannot truly see a lens quality until you are in the sun/outdoors) and they always honor their receipt and return policy Overall, I appreciate Academy Sports and the quality of their products. The service I have had there has been good and I have not had any issues.

I purchased a 15 Alumacraft Jon Boat July 31, 2015 and can not get it registered. Texas Parks and Wildlife said paper work would come from Katy, Texas. After the 15 day tag was out I started trying to get the paper work from Katy, They said Austin should have gave it to me. I purchased it from the store manager and when I called him he said he would get back with me. Not happened. Katy said they would get back with me and get it took care of. Not happened. This is the 2nd boat I purchased from Academy and will be my last with the run around I get and now cant go fishing legally. I now want my money back since they dont care about their customers. Never buy another boat from them. Would advise you to get paper work before leaving the store. On top of that it was on sell the day that I went by and told them Id be back the next day with my trailer. Store manager gave me an extra $150.00 off because of the scratches. I offered to pay him then and he told me to wait until I picked it up. Well he was off so they went back to the normal price and took off my $150.00 which was the sell price originally. The girl that took care of me wouldnt honor the managers word. No title, no sell and scratched up and bent up. Might say I am one unhappy customer. Thanks for nothing to a bunch of promises and no action. So long but I would like my money back.

So I take my wife to Academy to buy a firearm. It was a great deal they price match there competition as advertised online and beat it. So here we are a week later, I send my cousin looking to purchase his first firearm telling him they will price match the competition and to go to academy. So we found one online at the exact same place I found the gun for my wife. He goes to academy and called me saying they wouldnt do it!!!! So is it discrimination? ? Cause Im white and he was black. Anyways I call up there and talk to the manager asking whats the reason there not honoring the price match advertising as showed online, they did it for me the week before. So of course I talked to the manager and he said that Yes that they would price match. What a hassle! !!! Heres the worst part. My comes home after paying the FULL PRICE!!! REALLY? ??? DISCRIMINATION? FALSE ADVERTISING? ?

I tried to get CO2 bottles filled here 4 separate times, as this is the closest place to me that supposedly fills CO2 bottles. Every single time, they had some excuse why they couldnt fill them. A couple of times, it was because they didnt have anyone to fill them, and the other couple of times, they were out of CO2. I gave up on this place for filling my CO2 bottles, and now go to the Academy Sports location in Cedar Park, who has been able to fill my bottles every single time. After the 2nd time trying to fill at this location, I complained about it to the store personnel, and they said it was not usually a problem, but when the next 2 times I tried, they also couldnt fill them, I wrote off ever using this store again.

The staff at this store is strange to say the least. The teenage/younger workers are rude and have NO IDEA what good customer services is about. My last visit there was 2/22/09. The alarm went off as I and another customer walked out the door. Staff chased me down and grabbed/took the shopping bag right out of my hand. I went to give them the reciept and the lady was rude and said she didnt need it. Well, if you are going to act like I stole something I suggest you look at my reciept while you check my shopping bag!!!!! I will not be going back to this store. I will pay more at the local REI for the items I need, and get WAY better customer service by professional staff who values my business.

The worst "sales" people. Good thing they dont get paid based on commission. I was looking for a particular boot that they had ALWAYS carried. I couldnt find it, asked for assistance, but the salesman said he couldnt look it up without a SKU which I obviously did not have. Went to the Cedar Park Academy. The salesman, Mike, not only looked up the boot I was looking for, but also found out it was discontinued. He went so far as to look up other stores, located the size I needed, AND is having it transferred to the Cedar Park store. Wow.

Academy sells great products, but doesnt always have the service to back them up. On a trip to buy running shoes, I was ignored in the shoe department by a group of 4-5 employees. I didnt necessarily need a lot of help, but it would have been nice if someone had at least asked. I had questions that I ended up solving for myself by doing online research while in the store, but it would have been nice to talk to someone knowledgeable in person.

This is one their smaller stores so they dont have as big of a selection as the academy on research blvd. Although, they do have the best customer service Ive ever seen. I recently stopped ordering from Amazon just to give them more business. They have a card that you can apply for, like a credit card. In my case, I needed a kayak but couldnt fork out hundreds upfront. They are very willing to help any way they can.
