I very rarely write reviews but felt like this had to be said. This was my very first visit ever to an Academy Sports store, I went here today with the Intention of spending several hundred dollars on a bike, accessories, some shoes and other clothes. I walked around for over 1.5 hours and not a single employee approached me to ask if I needed help, not in ANY of the several departments I was in. I stood in the bike section for over 20 min waiting for someone to help and answer questions and finally went and asked the desk at the front, they announced over the loud speaker for someone to come, I waited another 15min and NO ONE CAME. Never received any help in the shoe department either. Employees walked around right past me, fixing shelves and never provide any customer service what so ever. I put the few items I did have in my hands back on the shelves and walked out. I will not be coming back to this store or probably any Academy store. Very poor customer service.

This is my nearest academy store. Ive lived in this area for years now and have visited this store multiple times. Throughout last year 2016 and this year I have had to visit a few times. I would like to say that my experience there has been not satisfactory any of those times. The staff is not available when you need them, and when you find them, you see them very relaxed talking to each other at the front desk. Every time I went I had trouble finding the products i needed and after looking through the mess they had I decided to look for someone to ask about it just to find out that they are out of stock. I remember this store use to be a decent place to shop. Im taking my business elsewhere. Thanks.

the Sales Manager in Firearm department was rude and no manner ! Im a CHL holder and I came in the store to purchase a hand run, instead of assisting customer to fill out the Form, the Sales Manager was very rude, he read the form and questioning me like a Police interrogate a criminal. We all aware of the shortage of Firearm and Ammunition situation at the present times but it doesn’t make the Academy personnel could be impolite to the customers. Be prepare when this situation happen to you, you have the option to spend your money at different stores in Austin.

Academy Sports is just one of those places you have to brave on occasion because there arent any great local alternatives. I always see plenty of staff milling about yet somehow all the clothing racks and shoe boxes are in constantly disarray. Proactive assistance simply isnt part of the equation. Mediocre customer service aside, if you need any sporting goods or athletic clothing its hard to beat Academy without driving further away from central Austin. They have a decent selection of just about everything and fairly competitive pricing.

The employees at the gun counter are rude. We bought a bicycle here that we paid $200+ for and as soon as we took it out to the parking lot the wheels were squeaking. We told the employee that sold it to us that theres a problem and he insisted that there was nothing wrong with it. We dont want to pay $200+ for a bike that isnt perfect, so we returned it after arguing with the manager for a while. Ive had issues with another bike that I bought here too. Go to Walmart for bikes. Theyre cheaper and better quality.

Not really a fan. I walked around for about 30 minutes, with no offers of help from the numerous employees I saw (those of which were all standing around talking, instead of working). When I stopped their conversation to ask where a product was located, I was greeted with a a rude stare of shock that I dared to interrupt them. I excused myself, apologized for bothering their slacking on the job, and left the store. I wont spend my money on lazy people.

Academy is a much cheaper alternative to most other sporting goods store. They still have nice, quality stuff but the selection may not be quite as good. They have a lot of selection on the sports side but I find the camping is limited. Large selection of clothes for men and women. They also usually have a large selection of UT shirt for a good price.

Lack of proper communication when holding the gun for repair due to malfunction. They keep holding my gun for 15 days before sending to the manufacturer, but I need to call the store to find that out. I think a call is warranted to avoid customer disappointment if the process is taking that long. Although, I was treated fairly when inside the store.

Academy has always been my go to place for inexpensive clothing and sportswear at a very reasonable price. Plus I used to work there 27 years ago. But Academy is outstanding in overall coverage as far as having a good selection at a reasonable price in all outdoor Sporting Goods hunting fishing recreation. I highly recommend any Academy.

Was looking for some hiking shoes and the customer service I received from the gentleman working there was so nice he called another academy and let me know that they could place them on hold and was very willing to help and make sure the shoes they had over there were double checked that they were my size.

Not my favorite but in a pinch it will wit work. I, however, find it totally insane that i can spend $100 dollars in here and not receive a bag to carry out my merch. Austin truly sucks on this one. Academy sucks for not providing a bag alternatives to plastic... paper bags anyone???

As Academy stores go, this one is the one to go to if it is right around the corner and you only have 30 minutes for lunch. Not the best selection, and the staff dont always seem real interested, but if you know what you are looking for, it can still work out fine.

Ive lost all respect for this store for removing the ar-15s from the shelf. Another spineless Corporation. Even after moving to Pennsylvania I continued buying from their store online. No longer will I be doing this.

They have a good viriety of stuff, but it was hard to find some work boots for my husbad. Their system showed they had a pair but could never find them in the store. This is the second time that happens to us.

I wouldnt shop anywhere else for sports equipment for my kids. They are most reasonably priced sports store Ive found. I have 5 kids and they all play sports and we get all our sports equipment from Academy.

Its not the newest store, but its big and had everything I was looking for. I like stores that let you search online to see if its in store before you go, and they do that here. The checkout guy was nice.
