Customer service centered business plan! There has not been a time when I walked in for some odd part or random fixture and was greeted with a "Welcome to Ace Hardware. Can I help you find something?". Home Depot is far enough away for me to not want to deal with the drive, traffic, and whatever else gets in the way. Granted the mark up a higher than that of the other big box retailers. Ace itself appears to be another large corporation. I found out that many of the stores are actually franchises that are locally owned. As a home improvement novice it is good to know that it is around the corner from my place. Recently I had a fuse go out at my house. An electrician expert was there to help me figure out the type of fuse I needed as well as the model. We settled on a arc fault type because of my house fire paranoia. Ace has come a long way from the down and out local hardware store it was a decade ago. They absolutely beat their competitors on customer service and available experts.

They have friendly and knowledgeable staff at Hardware City who have gone out of their way to help me find the right product, tool and provide tips on how to get it done. Ali the store manager is very friendly and has given me good suggestion on my home do it yourself projects. Have been to one other ACE store in Houston and not comparable in terms of neatness, selection, store size and knowledgeable friendly staff as Hardware City. I have sometimes called John to ask a question while in middle of a job. The person working in gardening section is also very knowledgeable on types of plant / tree disease control products and remedies. You can find some hard to finds gadgets, widgets which is not carried in Home Depot or Lowes here. Cashiers are friends and fast. Fortunate to be living in vicinity of it.

I have to say first, that the Ace on Memorial (and probably many more) is a very customer friendly and family oriented. The interior reminded me of ol good hardware stores from the 50s. However, I have checked a few prices against the Home Depot and they were higher. Carpenters glue is $3.49 against $1.64 at Walmart and $2.99 at HD. The grout was $12.99 against $8.27 at HD. So Ace is not good for a sweep shopping. Walmart and Home Depot would be a better bet. However, Ace has some items others dont have. For example, I could only find Welbond glue and E6000 adhesive there and not at any other place. Conclusion: Friendly but Expensive but has some rare merchandise.

Why do we have to be limited to ONLY five stars? I have been a patron of this Ace Hardware for more than 30 years, back to the original location at Kirkwood & Memorial. The only change I have ever seen is that they keep getting better. You do pay slightly more for the convenience of the location, and for the literal army of employees inside that APPROACH ME to offer help.... rather than as in big box stores where there are sooo....wait...HEEEELLLLLOOOOOOoooo? Oh. Nobody there to help. In every trip I have ever made there, I have never EVER failed to find what I was looking for, or an even better workable solution. HIGHLY recommend this store, especially for women!

John at this store has helped me with any plumbing question I have ever had. I completely re-plumbed my house with Pex and Jonn was extremely knowledgeable as to what I would need for the type of system I was installing. I remodeled my bathroom eliminating a bathtub and building a walk in shower. Relocating the drain to the center of the shower was a difficult job but John made it easier and I was more confident with his advice. I joked that their plumbing department would see a major sales decrease when I finished my projects. Other salespeople are also helpful. Overall, this Ace hardware store is the best place to go for any hardware need.

Very helpful and knowledgeable employees! Called around Houston hardware stores about a particular item and nobody had it. Called this place and spoke to Tom who said he will check if item in stock before i drove over. When i got there, Tom was not available, but store cashiers, and about 4 other personnel available took the time to get everythng needed and explained steps and how to avoid costly mistakes. The project was a success! If you need step-by-step instructions repeatedly :), this is one of the best places to go.

I want to offer kudoos for the Ace Memorial employee named John. John has been there for a long time and knows how to fix any problem. Yesterday, Labor Day 2011, I went to Ace and asked John how to repair two leaking toilets I have. He sold me the exact correct part for each toilet (two different manufacturers) and told me how to install the parts. It was so simple and worked perfectly! John was so matter-of-fact in solving what could have cost me $1,000 with a plumber. Fantastic experience-- and great job John!!!

This is a great local hardware store. Theres always someone asking if you need help and they can actually show you where things are located. They have a great fastener assortment that people used to be expect from hardware stores. They also keep a decent assortment of starting capacitors for your house A/C compressor. However, they dont have a large variety of decor or electrical items. If you need a simple door knob or switch, theyll have it. If you needed a fancy custom version, they wont.

Since it is right around the corner from my office, I have gone in a few times. Prices high. I purchased $173 worth of items and needed to return an air filter (my fault) that was the wrong size. Because it was partially opened, they refused to allow me an exchange. Nice going fellows! Because it is an ACE affiliate, I went to another ACE store and without even a blink, they allowed an exchange, never even asking for a receipt "Go here if you must, go elsewhere if you can"

Very helpful staff. I have always found what I have needed and their staff has been very kind and helpful to me. Unlike some other hardware stores I do not have to go around chasing for help, they always offer their help every time they go by you. There is always someone to help. And they go above and beyond to help. Favorite hardware store, hands down.

The service here is really good they dont mind helping you or walking you around the store to show you where something is. Selection is very decent quite a bit packed on the shelves for the size of the store. They dont get 5 stars from me because of how high priced everything is compared to everywhere else like Lowes, Home Depot, or Walmart.

For those who arent that handy, this store always has very knowledgeable and extremely helpful people who can not only help you find whatever youre looking for but give you advice on how to complete your DIY project if you need it. Because of their helpfulness, I would patronize this store before any big box home improvement store any day.

Unreliable shops like this deserve to be put out of business by the big boys. I can guarantee you Home Depot wont be closed at 8 oclock when their sign says 9 just because they didnt feel your business was worth enough money to stay open until their own advertised time. Save yourself the hassle and just go to Home Depot or Lowes!
