My oldest son developed a liking for cycling when he was 15, and for the last 4 years we have been regulars of the shop. With so many opportunities to find good deals online these days I wondered if a local shop could compete in price when it came to specialized equipment like this. I always feared that with the little knowledge I had, the sales staff would want to steer me to the high dollar items, but after 4 years I can tell you that is the furthest thing from what happens there, they get a good feel for what you need and that is what they point you to. It is a LOCAL SHOP, run like a local shop, but with high quality products at a very competitive price. For those who read the less than stellar reviews I have to say that the LOCAL SHOP may require that you give them a chance, as they try to be respectful of the folks that like me that looked like they wanted to look around before being accosted. Once you engage them, they will find a way to help, even if you ask a question they dont have the answer to, they will try to find the answer for you. They sell you bikes that will be a good fit for you and then they help you keep them in top shape if you give them the chance. They encourage you to participate in the many community rides and races they support, and if you join their Club, you get to enjoy some nice discounts and many opportunities to develop your love of cycling as far as you want to take it. Now my youngest is active with the shops Junior Club and he loves it!

On a recent training ride for yesterdays Shadow Creek Ranch sprint triathlon I encountered some issues with the gear shifting on my Felt B16. I live on the the northwest side of town so I took my bike to a nearby shop. The mechanic told me it would require a minimum time of ONE WEEK to replace a cable, and he told me, "... triathlon bikes are poorly designed." He estimated the cost to be $10.00 for the cable and $20.00 for the repair, totaling roughly $30.00 and ONE WEEK to get back on the road. I am so pleased that I called BICYCLE WORLD OF HOUSTON on Memorial. Great people who are honest and extremely efficient!! I called ahead of time and talked to one of the service guys and he told me he could have me back on the road in a matter of minutes! I am so happy to have found these guys, I will only deal with Bicycle World of Houston from now on. The moment I walked in I could feel the difference. They are friendly and efficient mechanics who know what they are doing. The cable did not need replaced, instead just a housing, with a total cost for parts and repairs of only $12.00! The total time to diagnose and complete the repair was about fifteen minutes. So $12.00 and fifteen minutes vs. $30.00 and one week at the other place! They also gave me a free tuneup a couple days before the race. I am so impressed with their staff and shop. This shop is worth the trip no matter what part of Houston you live in.

Not a fan of this place. I have been here multiple times since I live right around the corner. Most of the time when i walk in, the staff completely ignores that Im even there. If you want help, be prepared to ask for it. I bought a bike (Cervelo P2) from this place -- but honestly their customer services leaves a LOT to be desired. The girl who "helped" me when purchasing the bike had no idea about proper fit, etc. and finally went to get someone else who would have some clue. After purchasing the bike, I got the "Bicycle World Perfect Fit" (or whatever its called), which took all of about 30 seconds...the guy just adjusted the seat height. Are you kidding me?! I later took my bike to Philip Shama, who performed an AMAZING fit. Mani (sp?) is the only person at Bicycle World who has ever helped me. I bought my bike back 2 days after buying it (I lived in Spring at the time, so had to drive across town) b/c the wheel was rubbing the frame and I could not pedal at all. The guys were joking about it, and I was not amused after spending ~$3k on a brand new bike + accessories that was now not working. Im just fed up with their customer service is what it comes down to. Bike Barn store in Katy is my new go to place, even though its further away, its well worth the drive.

Big thanks to the service department at Bicycle World Memorial! First, they were able to troubleshoot a noise my mountain bike was making that other shops couldnt figure out. Second, I brought in my commuter bike with the idea to convert it to a single speed, and they delivered 100%. Both jobs were completed 1 day earlier than estimated. The team members working in the service area are knowledgeable, are able to identify solutions for my needs, and make great recommendations. I also appreciate their patience as I usually ask multiple questions. Great Job! I really like the assortment of bicycles in the shop as well. There are mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, road bikes, track bikes, commuters, gravel grinders, you name it! They carry at least half a dozen or more brands to choose from as well. Their selection ranges from medium to high end. Id go as far as to say they probably have the best assortment in town. I have been consistently greeted when I arrive, offered assistance, and addressed by the service team promptly. Youve gained a loyal customer.

This is the second time that I had a bad experience at this bicycle store, the first one was last year when talking about buying a new bicycle only to get a high pressure sales pitch for overpriced lower quality bikes that I was not interested in. Went in to buy a spare rear gear set for my old mountain bike. Chris Holmes manhandled my bike when hanging it up on the bike rack, propped it up by the bike seat instead of the seat stem then put torque on the frame, only to "find" a crack in my frame right below the seat stem after wards. He quoted me $250 for disassembly and reassembly of my bike to send the frame in for warranty repair (official dealer quoted me $85 for both later that day). Then he proceeded to talk down to me about buying a new mountain bike instead of repairing this one and gave me a sales pitch about V-brakes being worse than Disc Breaks to consider the higher priced models. I will not come back to this place due to this horrible experience and I will continue advocating against this bike store. I will shop elsewhere.

I had a good relationship with these guys for over 3 years during which I spent around $5K in there. They had a great mechanic who built up a tasty ti road bike thats been fine since. However they binned that fine gent (you can find him at the excellent Webster cycles). Really started to lose confidence in BWF when their new mechanic was unable to bleed my juicy 5 disc brake after 3 attempts (fortunately a 5-minute fix for about $6 in a bare-bones store in Mexico, which kept me rolling safely through the summer there but so much for the $100 pre-trip service). Too bad I felt only like a walking $ sign when I walked in each time -I cant respond to a hard sell and thats the main vibe I picked up. I respect their need to make money but sorry it just feels shallow there! I dont get that feeling from other stores. When I bought some expensive kit from another source the owner phoned me and told me never to come back to the stores or any of their rides. Good business sense or childish behavior? You may decide and vote with your feet.
