The Peddler is the only bicycle shop I have purchased bikes or accessories from in Memphis. I must say, today, they have lost my business forever. I believe in giving 2nd even 3rd chances but, I should have went with my gut and been done with their customer service before I went back for the 5th time today. Ive probably spent well over $2000 in the store ordering a bike and other gear over the past 2 1/2 years. This is a busy store being by the U of M and I always avoid weekends there due to the heavy foot traffic but, Ive had to wait even during the week for assistance. I placed an order and it was missing a part when I went to get it a week and a half later. The store called a little over a week later and it was there and I explained that I would need some assistance putting the roof rack accessories on. When I purchased the almost $300 gear I ordered plus another $100 in tubes and clothing, no one could assist me placing the gear on b/c "Im too busy", per the manager to the young man ringing me up. The young man didnt know how to put it on and no one else was available to assist me. I bit my tongue and tried to place it on in the rear parking lot myself. After an hour of frustration in the heat another employee got the manager who came out and attempted to help me; only to learn this part would not fit. He called Thule and learned that adaptations would have to be made to fit and said he would take care of it since I was patient. A week later I went for the 3rd time, the manager had a health problem that delayed an attempt to adapt the fairing. He apologized so I said that they could call me when it was ready. He explained the needed steps to adapt the components to another co-worker and they were to get on it and I even left my number again. I went back 4 days ago, never receiving a call and there was one person working assisting customers and 3 people at the counter; therefore I left after waiting 20 minutes with no acknowledgement. Well today its been 2.5 weeks since I left my number, I went back, there sets the fairing on the shelf behind the counter, a young man who I have dealt with previously asked me "how can I help you"? I tell him my fairing, is it ready to be placed on my car. The manager walks up and says "we need to get a dremel tool on it now". I said no, I will get my receipt and would like a refund on the fairing. Maybe Im not a big enough spender in the shops eyes. However, I never got ugly, argued or was rude at any time with any employee but, this was the worst experience I have ever had with customer service. I gave this shop multiple times to address this issue and was told due to my patience it would be fixed and it was never even addressed or attempted. I never received a phone call except when the parts were in and they wanted payment. I did get an apology after my refund and was told "lost in translation." My business and recommendation of this shop is forever lost. Therefore, I believe that its okay to give someone a 2nd chance but 5, thats way to many to keep biting your tongue. I have bought 4 bikes (holy smokes I have issues!) and many accessories from The Peddler on Walker Ave. The staff here is SUPERB! They never, EVER act as if youre bothering them if you have questions, they treat you like intelligent adults ought to. I am an inspiring roady with lots of old injuries (from other sports) so I am still trying to tweak my bikes to fit this rapidly aging body, the staff here are quick to offer suggestions and their vast knowledge of the products is awesome. The selection of bicycles in the store is great and if you want something and its not in stock, they have it very quickly. They do not "sell" you on what they think you ought to buy, they let you browse (and drool) and test ride and test ride and test ride! I wanted a small sized, mens frame hybrid for riding in Shelby Farms, I was told by another Trek store that "it wont fit you" and the salesman wouldnt even take the bike down to let me try it. I went to Highland St and tried the bike and its been the best fitting bike I have ever owned! Its a considerable drive for me to go to the Walker Ave store, but the service and attitude is more than worth it. If youve never ridden a Trek, you have no idea what youre missing, Ive owned Cannondales and Schwinns (back when they were both USA made) and even an Orbea, but the Trek just feels "right", the womens specific design bikes make riding a joy again. Ive not had any issues with things breaking or not functioning as expected and we ride about 80-85 miles a week. I LOVE this store and cant say enough positive things about the staff!

I went into Peddler looking for help fixing up my old mtn bike. I was prepared to do all the work myself but just needed a little help with the chain. It runs through the frame and needed to be broken with a special tool in order to remove it. I was ready to spend whatever it took to get the bike back into riding condition that day. I wanted a new chain, tires, tubes, some handle grips, seat cover, tire pump, and some new riding gear. Probably 2-3 hundred bucks worth of stuff. All I needed was someone to take 15 min to help me get a new chain on there. One of the workers was helping me out taking a look at it when the manager comes over berating me and lets me know they dont do any labor on Saturdays because they are too busy. I looked around and saw 5 people working there and only 2 other customers in the store already being helped. He told me it would be 2 weeks before they would work on my bike. I tried to tell him I could do everything myself and was planning on buying all the equip from his store but he was too busy being a huge jerk to hear me out. Ive been in there in the past just for some small purchases. Never had an issue until today when I actually needed a little help. After that experience you can bet, I will never set foot ( or wheel ) in that place again.

I went into this store interested in Trek bicycles... I spoke to a Trek representative directly and she assured me that their dealer(s) would help me find a bike that would suit me and The Peddler is probably the most well known around here and one of the closest to me. So Im a little pudgy(ok, maybe a lot pudgy), Im female and frankly I dont look like I should be on a bike -- I did 6 laps around this shop waiting for someone to help me ... the co-owner(I see him on the website) was there and was helping someone else and none of the other guys that were in the back seemed to want to come out and help me -- I got a bit sensitive because it appeared to me that he(the owner) had to go and make someone come out and help me. Not good. Going into a bike store is very intimidating when you dont know anything and even more so in my case, because Im not athletic, and you fear going in a place and people looking at you, thinking what is SHE doing in here... unfortunately, it seemed to become a reality here -- a young guy did finally come out and was very nice, I chatted with him for a good while but had already decided I couldnt buy a bicycle from them... it just seemed like he was the one that got the short straw -- bad experience here.
