I am not a fan of the "big box" hardware stores in the first place, so I may be a little biased here. I love small hardware stores. You walk in, there are 5 people there smiling at you, ready to go out of their way to help you find whatever is you may need for your weekend project, ask how your kids are doing, and invite you over for a BBQ. But every now and then, you need something that you can only get at a big store. Well, I can assure you I will likely never step foot in a Home Depot again when I need that big store. I needed a specific item that Home Depot had online, but apparently did not have in store. I had a 10% off coupon for an in-store purchase. I thought "hey, I could go to Home Depot, see if they would order it for me, and give me that 10% off! That would be great, surely they would do that for me!". That was a mistake. First off, the Lowes:HomeDepot ratio where I live is 3:1, so I had to travel a bit to get to the Home Depot. I get there, encouraged to see only 1 customer at the customer service counter, and a total of 4 associates behind the counter. Surely this will be timely, pleasant buying experience. I prematurely go up to the counter thinking one of the many associates would slip over, eager to help. 5 minutes pass before I am finally able to make eye contact. It was brief though, and the look in her eyes said "I do not care that you are here." Another 5 minutes pass, nothing. One associate walks away to check their phone. Another disappears completely. A phone behind the counter keeps ringing and ringing, but nobody seems to notice. No additional eye contact or acknowledgement of my existence. Finally, one of the associate comes back, now for a total of 3 behind the counter. The phone is ringing. She looks at it, lets it ring a few times, then answers it. In disgust. Short sentences were exchanged, and she hangs up. 20 minutes have passed, which I guess isnt terrible in the grand scheme of things, but with 4 associates available and only 1 person in line!? Finally, she looks at me and we lock eyes in a way that she can no longer ignore me, and says: "are you here to pick something up?". Not "Hi" or "How may I help you?". But you never now how bad of day someone has had by 10 am, so I give her the benefit of the doubt. I kindly say "no, I would like to order this product…" and proceed to tell her what I would like to do. To make this long story short, they not only said they couldnt honor my 10% coupon, they said they couldnt order it for me. What a cold, disappointing experience. I said "thank you for your time" and left. I went home, went online, and ordered it from Sears for the same price. I will stick to my small local hardware store, and if I have to venture beyond that, it will not be at Home Depot.

If you could do 0 stars I would pick that. Home Depot online is by far the worst online shopping experience Ive ever had. Ordered over 2000 worth of product to renovate my back yard, and once i pay off my credit card i will never deal with Home Depot again. First, lost a package in my order. Told me it would take 8 days to do an investigation and get a new item sent out. After 10 days of not hearing anything, i called only to find out that they refunded my card instead of sending out the new item, did not let me know the package would never be coming and was forced to reorder. Then, one of my patio chairs was delivered, and was missing a cushion. Another hour long conversation, multiple calls, and they finally sent out the cushion I was missing (well see how long that actually takes to get here). While on the phone for the cushion, i talked to the representative about ordering slip covers for the cushions while i had her on the phone, she read my order back to me, 3 sets of oatmeal colored cushions and asked if she had permission to order, I said yes. Get off the phone only to get a confirmation email for my order, SKY BLUE SLIP COVERS?! Are you kidding me?! Had to call back again right away, they had to cancel that order, and reorder the correct color (another hour long conversation). Which brings me to today. Still waiting on a 5 piece patio furniture set i ordered 3 weeks ago. Called a couple days ago to find out whats up, only to find out they gave me the tracking number for the company that didnt even have the set, and gave me the correct one. Called the company that supposedly was going to deliver it, only to find out that a couple weeks ago they received the wrong package, something that weighed 3 times what mine should have, and that my patio furniture set was missing. Once again had to call Home Depot and sit on the phone for 2 hours while they figured it out. Again, had to cancel my order, and reorder the patio set that Ive already waited 3 weeks for. The guy tells me hes giving me 100 off the set, get an email, only gave me 60 off! Not only that but the guy said hed transfer me to the credit card company to get the 18 month 0 interest, instead sent me to a survey and hung up. It has been the worst service Ive ever experienced in my life and Ill never shop there again. Oh and to add on, today I found out the ignition source on my propane fire pit doesnt work, instead of sending one out, they expect me to take the whole fire pit apart, and travel 2 hours away to where I purchased it to get a new one. The incompetence at this place is overwhelming.

While I have not had problems shopping at this Home Depot, I will never pay for appliance installation from it again. This Home Depot contracted out my recent dishwasher installation to a local company called Appliance Warehouse, and they did an awful job. Although they showed up on time and worked quickly, they did not install the dishwasher correctly; they connected the wrong wire to a plate, so when I tried to run it, the appliance made a loud popping sound, shot out a huge spark, and tripped my circuit breaker. Because I had the dishwasher installed on a Friday (and Appliance Warehouse apparently doesnt respond to weekend messages), The Home Depot was unable to help me get the installation corrected until Monday afternoon, leaving me without a dishwasher for 3 days. They were apologetic when contacted, but would not refund the full amount of the installation; instead, they sent a gift card for half of its cost. While I appreciate that they did something to compensate for my bad experience, I would not use their installation service again, at least as long as they are contracting services out to Appliance Warehouse.

I read a review of folks calling the store & being treated rudely by the person answering the phone & another about an inexplicably time consuming truck rental coming AND going. I placed a large ceiling fan order online from afar for a new build in Charleston. The builder has to drive past the N Chuck Depot each day so he could pick them up. This order was ready within one hour of my placing it so I needed to let them know the pick up wouldnt be till the following morning. I called and spoke to a lady at the pro desk & told her what was up. Super nice, she took down my builders name & told me to remind him to bring his drivers license. Maybe not such a big deal but it meant a lot to me. Building from 1000 miles away is HARD.
