A Private User

Much like the independent book store or corner grocer, privately owned, "one-stop-shop" hardware stores such as All Seasons are increasingly difficult to find. Its a Catch-22: on the one hand, we love dealing with the local personalities and supporting a local business; on the other, we want as much bang for our buck as possible (those found only at the larger blue or orange guys). The All Seasons staff, who place much less emphasis on corporate liability or "cultural" policies, are more likely to discuss home repair and improvement projects with you at length (you may even get some contractor recommendations should you need to call in professionals). The product selections are eclectic (hardware, gardening, automobile, plumbing, electrical, painting supplies and more). When you need home repair or emergency items quickly, chances are theyve got at least one of the items needed on a shelf somewhere (though it might be a little dusty). On Johns Island, you pay for this convenience. That being said, All Seasons operating hours are less than convenient. If small businesses want to compete with the big boys and earn more customer loyalty (or keep it) despite having higher pricing, they must set themselves apart by exceeding in other areas. I will always support local, small businesses when I can, but to keep me coming back Ill need the above and beyond, a more "personal" touch which I wouldnt get with the more homogenized competition. Unfortunately, All Seasons seems to rely more on being convenient than exemplary (although they have a great small engine repair shop and a huge selection of loose nuts & bolts). Two stars off for terrible operating hours. Early daily closings but inexcusable in this market is being closed Sundays, one of two days traditionally devoted to needing and using the items they sell (its not just the sinners who are forced to spend their money elsewhere during All Seasons down time).

Needed a new mower, now my lawn bows before me. Had a damaged window and no idea how to fix it, parts supplies and a quick explanation of what I was doing FIXED and better than new. Needed tools for my car, Now Im ready for every occasion. Yeah I could have saved a few dollars at Lowes, but i doubt the quality of my tools would match and I know for a fact the quality of service wouldnt have been so consistently excellent, and Id be on the lookout for the crap to break again. My go to hardware store when I actually want the job to stay done

Great if you need something quick, but everything is marked up 20% or more compared to other stores. The selection is limited but the staff is very friendly & helpful. Great mini engine service & repair items.
