My experience here was poor. I went in for a new bike seat. I was the only customer there but he acted as if he could be doing a million other things. I dont know if he assumed I wouldnt be buying anything or what, but his "vibe" weird. He insulted my bike and said i should get a "real" bike (my bike is brand new, but because i got it from amazon at a discount, he insisted that it was bad quality. Ive had and used it for a while now, and not one issue from it!) I brushed that off and continued searching through seats. When i found the one i wanted to try out, I asked him if I could try it out before getting it but he refused and said I might run off with it (Id done this at several - actually- every other shop Id been to before going to his). I assured him that I wouldnt. I then asked him what happens if I buy the seat and I dont like it. He said "your stuck with it." He didnt try to help me understand the difference between seats and he didnt want to allow me to try it out for myself. I insisted that he did. So he finally let me try it inside the store. I did like it, so I bought it. By this point, I DID NOT WANT TO PURCHASE THE SEAT because of his attitude, but after going to 5 bike stores in search for a brown seat, I swallowed whatever feelings I had and bought it. After purchasing, I ask him to help me bring the bike upstairs (through the narrow stairwell) at which he huffed and puffed. He again insulted my bike saying he doesnt want to "break" it because those eBay bikes break easily because theyre cheap. I was appalled. After purchasing the seat, I took it for a test ride (not even a full block), and I asked him to make one adjustment. He said I could do it at home. I told him "I paid for the seat and installation. I have to ride this thing home, and Id prefer to do it comfortably. I need it adjusted now." He told me hes been doing it for 30 years and the seat is already adjusted. I explained to him again that it was tilted in a way that was uncomfortable. He finally fixed it but not without an attitude. I dont know what this was about. Im a black woman. And not one who usually pulls the race card, but it almost felt that way. It felt as if he assumed I wouldnt be buying anything - maybe based on the "cheap" bike I bought in, or based on my skin color, or size, or anything. I have no clue. I DO know that it was uncomfortable and Ill NEVER go back!

This shop was awful and I would never go back. Comments were made at me about my background, gender, experience, and knowledge. When I first said my spokes were broken, he made fun of me in front of another customer saying I called them spikes. Other comments were made about me being "an innocent little girl" and other inappropriate, unprofessional comments around getting a Florida vacation house with me and drinking later. I expressed no interest in any of these things obviously, but also felt that I could not leave because he had my bike taken apart in his shop. While he was fixing my spokes, he also broke my inner tube and after reading other reviews, would not be surprised if that was part of a scam. I would not trust this man with anything, nor would I recommend this shop to anyone. When I talked about my experience with other people, both men and women said that he was a perverted jerk. There are plenty of other bike shops in Philly that are a hundred times better.

The guy is a little weird, but he sold me a very good bike at a price thats better then other shops in the city. He talks a lot which probably hurts his business with some people. He dose have low prices, which makes up for the weird salesmanship in my book. He has a variety of bike gear some good some not so good. In most cases, I dont feel ripped of if I buy cheep things that brake because I got what I payed for, but Id rather not buy things at all that will brake in a month. (like the bike baskets and racks...) As for tuneups, I have gotten a tuneup there, and all my brakes were tightened too much, the chains werent cleaned off and so on, but then again it was a cheep tuneup. Im giving this place 4 stars because other bike shops in Philly are usually overpriced, have a hard time talking to customers because theyre too busy doing "other things" and because its in a very convenient aria.

I went in to the store to get a flat fixed (I had one 2 days prior that was fixed by another shop). Jeff very quickly figured out what was causing the issue and provided a great solution. I then talked to him about some discomfort while riding my bike, and he offered me a few different solutions. We tried some of the options (which involved him taking part of the bike apart to work the handlebars) and discarded a few. I eventually decided on a seat and he helped me adjust it appropriately. He also helped me with some gear issues as well. All in all, I appreciate the fact that he is very knowledgeable, and gave me a fair price for the changes that he made to the bike. I definitely will be going back in there to talk to him about my other bicycle.

Frankinstien Bike Worx is great little shop with a very knowledgeable owner, Jeff. He is no doubt a loose canon but is the most well versed and knowledgeable bicycle enthusiast Ive had the pleasure of meeting in the city. He has his own model/prototype (the "Street Cred") that is completely unique to this shop and designed by Jeff himself. It is also very reasonably priced for the high quality of the product. The shop is not anything fancy but delivers nothing but high quality high performance products. I would recommend this shop for anyone looking for a well constructed bike and who wants to get the most for their money!

Awesome bike shop, awesome owner and great quality and great prices. I stopped in to look for a new bike and left with an amazing machine. Jeff got me fitted for the perfect bike and took his time to educate me how everything even though he was trying to close up. I did see alot of people on here saying he is racist but idk about that.... a black male was came into the shop after he had closed looking for a bike for minimal money and Jeff set him up with a bike and was didnt treat him any differently than me. Regardless of any of that stuff I would recommend this place to anyone.

Stay away. This guy totally took advantage of me. I popped my tire, he convinced me I NEEDED a new $50 "commuter tire" (when come to find my old tire was actually high quality and totally useable and I just needed a new $10 inner tube) - after spending all that money my inner tube popped again by the time I rode 5 minutes away from the shop. Called him to let him know, he could not have cared less. After the fact, I heard multiple similar stories from friends about how he has a habit of scamming those who arent super bike savvy or just scamming in general.
