First off, Dan, good response to "better luck elsewhere", haha. But seriously I have been coming here since I have started to take my commuting and bike riding in general much more seriously, which is for the last couple years. Dan is someone with the most bike experience I have ever met in my life and has used it to exceed my expectations every time I come in. And other than Dans knowledge, there is also Marc always there for you when you come in the door. Whenever I walk in the door he will stop what he is doing (most of the time) and help me out with whatever I need and is also one of the most awesome bike mechanics I know. Not only will he make you crack up, but hell do it while tearing apart your bike, overhauling everything, and putting it back together (and maybe throwing some campy in there). I would greatly suggest at least stopping into Southwest Bicycles and talking to Dan and Marc about your bike, and whatever bike related question you have. If there is a bike shop I will always go to it will be Southwest Bicycles. Oh and to "better luck elsewhere", Portland loves bikes so anywhere you go you might stumble upon "snobby" people, but SW Portland? Really? Have you ever been to the east side?

Over the past few weeks my wife & I have searched hard for a new city bike that works with her new hip (7 months ago) and our modest budget. We have been to many shops, big & small, all over the city and tried lots of bikes. SW Bicycles owner Dan gracefully accommodated all our quirky questions and requests, all while dealing with his other customers and work. Despite the fact that we have plenty of other good bike shops across town between our Hollywood District home and this small Multnomah Village shop, we ended up buying a Biria Easy 7 from Dan. My wife absolutely loves the bike and the shopping experience here was great. Shop and bike are both highly recommended.

I love this shop and I love the guys there. They are funny, quick and very knowledgeable. I kept getting flats and they told me to throw my beer bottles BEHIND me, instead of in front. Hahaha. Duh. LOL. Theres a puppy there sometimes!! She is very sweet. They keep a variety of items in stock and turn around time for work is really good. I usually just wait there for a bit and its done! I also appreciate that they treat me fairly, they dont just see a newbie on a bike and judge. I also appreciate that they are open on Saturdays, since I work during their M-F hours!!

Rexs review is spot on. The owner Dan is an elitist jerk. After talking on the phone with him, he basically told me customer service isnt important to him. I had a simple question about a bike seat I bought there that wouldnt fit, he dodged all of my questions and comments while putting the seat on, and made me feel like a fool by saying "Were bike mechanics," before ending the conversation. If customer service is important to you, DONT GO HERE. Ill never go to this elitist place again.

I went here to have my bike checked out/fix a few things. The place had a really snobby atmosphere, which I guess makes sense for being SW pdx. The estimate given to me was ludicrious; City Bikes in SE is doing the repair for $100 less. Seemed like the guy cared more about profit and looking knowledgeable than customer service or promoting cycling. Would not go here again, and will not recommend it to anybody else. Check out City Bikes or the Community Cycling Center.

I have been to quite a few of the bike shops here in Portland, and in my experience none of them have the wealth of knowledge and high standards of work that Southwest Bicycles does. Dan and Marc are extremely helpful, straightforward, and honest about your your project, whatever it is, no matter how small. Even after I move out of the neighborhood, this will continue to be my default shop.

I brought my bike in for some help setting up a new pair of bars and these guys were awesome. They didnt charge me too much, and they were really fast and knew what they were doing. I was really impressed when the tech realized that one of my wheels wasnt quite straight, and trued it up for no charge. They really take pride in what their work. I highly recommend this shop.

My kid broke his front brake in a minor crash. Walked in with the bike on a Sat after 5pm, walked out with a fixed bike 10 min later for a very reasonable price. Fantastic service. Well be back.

Depending on the day, the owner may be slammed which can make him come off as cold. He is very friendly and helpful. Not to mention close to me!
