The venue is cool but thats not what has driven me to review these guy. Ive got to give some props to the guys in service. I bought my bike off of Craigslist and though it was love at first sight with the bike itself, like most things CL, there were some hangups. Im not talking "she said she had an "athletic" body type CL hang up or he said he was over 5 7 tall. . . Instead, think " no VISIBLE signs of abuse" hangup. The bike had a mystery creak/click sound so Im thinking bearings or wheels. I stopped in at the big chain bike shop up the road on Sandy BLVD. first. Their tech was not terribly interested in diagnosing the problem as much as he wanted to install new parts. I didnt want to go that route yet so I stopped in a Velo Cult and chatted with Russ about my problem. *side note* Upon entering this place, I could tell that Im really not as bike savvy or albeit, as cool as these guys and gals are. So I was a little intimidated to spell out my theory regarding my bikes issue. I was happy to find them to friendly and willing to listen to what I had to say. Russ confirmed some of my suspicions and suggested other culprits to the mystery noise. He made a plan, told me the price range and time to complete. I got a call from Adam the following day to say everything was on track and the repairs were going as expected. Bottom line, these guys know bikes, they are friendly, and their service is top notch. Keep up the good work!

These guys will take you to the cleaners. You know those car shops that will have you spend $1000 every time you go and still half the time the problem isnt fixed? Thats these guys. I had them look at a 3 year old Cannondale $3500 bike with low miles and that was kept indoors when not ridden, just to see what they would say. They quoted $400 in repairs and replacement parts! They said the rear derailleur hangar was bent (its not), and all the cables needed replacing (wtf!) I have a1975 Schwinn with the cables still intact. They said the cables "looked used". Ya, its a used bike. They quoted new brake pads because there was 50% left etc etc. They are there to take your money.. not be of service to you. And their tagline is: thats what Id do to my bike. ya, you get free labor, and parts at half price and I guarantee you you wouldnt replace this stuff.

I wanted a bike that I could take out on weekends and use for fun trips around town during the summer. I bought a cheap ol beater off craigslist and took it into velo cult. They were extremely helpful! I had a lot of noob questions and told them right off the bat that I was on a very tight budget and just looking for the "toyota corolla" of bikes. The man that helped me answered everything great and took the time to break things down into terms I understood. He even took me out into the parking lot and gave me a basic lesson on shifting. In the end I left the store without spending a dime and I got great service. I will be back again for anything I do need to buy just because of the great service I got!

A bike bar! I love the way that the space is laid out-- theres a lot of natural lighting. They have beer, wine, food, kombucha (SOMA!) on tap. I cant quite put my finger on it, but theres something about the place thats very peaceful to me. It might be the soft music playing, people tinkering in the background with their bikes... Im really not sure. At a first glance, theres a lot going on-- lots of bicycles, gear, tools, art, etc. It all works somehow. I actually really love to read and study here.

Needed a new home bike repair shop since Bike N Hike left Portland. Spoke with Chad on the phone whom was very knowledgeable, kind and professional. I brought my bike in the same day to get a free estimate. My hybrid road/mountain bike need a few minor adjustments, which Chad himself took care of. I love my bike. And I trusted Chad instantly. Pricing is competitive and I had a lovely, robust stout while I waited. Highly recommend for bike and beer enthusiasts!

Lots of reviews here about the bar and community aspect, but theyre also a great shop. If youre looking for something to fancy up your ride, this is a great shop. They have a lot of local made stuff that you wont find in the basic shops and theyre very patient. Ive been in many times and rarely left empty handed. They also often have the Spurcycle bell in stock. If you havent seen or heard that bell, check out out here.

Bike project became more lengthy due to part delays and mechanic staff turnover. Unfortunately when I sought and took this shops advice it ended up in expensive design tangents. When that said they were not fully familiar with bike geometry, it should have been a red flag. Many parts lost from original bike and never recovered. Staff personable, but disorganized. A "cool" place - but be wary.

Have I been living under a rock? As a sporadic bicycle commuter and fan of both coffee and beer and dont know how I havent been here. Velo Cult is your go to bike shop for friendly service and reasonably priced parts. Purchase a beer and talk to the watch the bike mechanic as they do their magic. Or stop by for the beer and coffee and watch all the sexy [bike] eye candy.

This place is so AMAZING! The staff is the most friendly in town. The shop itself is inspiring! The fact that you can get your bike fixed while having a beer...makes me cry a little! It is a fun hangout! I cant talk it up enough! Go there!

Beer and bikes... I see a trend here! Unfortunately, Velo Cult doesnt fully stand out as either a bar or bike shop. The atmosphere is spot on with its name, which may be a deterrent to outsiders that arent already a part of the (cult) community.

Such a great community hub: amazing coffee, fantastic beer, comedy space in the basement, and support for bike groups and events. Check out the amazing Punch-out mural in the back as well!

Great guys and nice place to hang out. I love the fact that they will take in bikes and work on them over the weekend so it doesnt leave me bikeless during the work week commute

Essence of Portland biking culture. Bikes, beer, events, and timed right sandwiches. I say timed right because on five different occasions been told they have stopped serving.

Best combo ever: bikes and beer. We even got a great tour around the place from the friendly staff. The complete picture and vision is really well worked out
