I bought a Handi Quilter in Sept. It was to be sent to common Thread. I found out what day it would arrive and called the Common Thread to arrange for them to come to my house to set up machine. It was two weeks from the day it was due, they never called me back. So on the day the machine arrived before heading out for the hour trip to pick it up we called. Seems the boxes had some damage so they refused shipment. No call to us, glad we called first. While they were on the phone I wanted to arrange set up again, in 2 weeks time. They again said someone would call me. As the delivery date drew closer I called two more times, left messages with various people and never got a call back. My husband picked up machine, told them we would see them the following Monday for set up. On the Saturday before I called to confirm. This time the woman on the phone couldnt believe no one had called me. So she would call them at home and have them call. No they didnt and then when I called on Monday to ask what time they would be here, I was told someone else was before me so I would have to wait. My husband is an engineer so he set up the machine. Common Thread did send out a women to show me how to use it and she gave me some great information. But I also showed her the machine was not working correctly in precision mode. She concurred. So the next weekend I took the machine in and talked to the repair person for a half hour. I explained to her the machine did not work going horizontally in precision mode. I told her my engineer husband said it was an encoder problem. She had the machine 2 weeks and when I picked it up she said " the reason it was skipping stitches was a burr on the needle" so she replaced it. (2 weeks to do that) I told her that was never the problem. I was told to take it home and if there was still a problem to call her and she would come to me. Remember I am an hour away. So I came home set it up and you guessed it didnt work. Called her and she says oh you will have to call the factory techs. WHAT!!! So I called the sales rep. I would like to say he was stunned. Really nice and reacted quickly. After several calls, parts being sent to us that my husband put in it turned out to be a bad machine. So they sent me a new one and we are now quilting away. I love my Handi Quilter, it is a great machine. I believe anyone can get a lemon, this was but the company stepped right up and replaced the machine. Not may companies will do that. I am very satisfied. As far as Common Thread, I wouldnt go back there ever. They dont listen, dont return calls, and have no follow through. I was also told I would be offered classes at their shop and a blog to talk to others about longarm quilting. I have never heard one word. So get a Handi Quilter just dont get it through Common Thread.

Ive been a very regular customer for a little over a year now. Id heard of the store from a couple of friends who purchased Living Social coupons to attend Beginning Sewing classes, and they enjoyed the experience. It just so happened that the chiropractor I was referred to happens to be located immediately next door to this sewing store. After one of my chiro appointments last year, I popped into A Common Thread and mentioned the Living Social deal. They were willing to sign me up for a Beginning Sewing class for the same price as the online deal. That was my first time walking in the store, and Ive since taken MANY of their class series and one-off lessons, Ive purchased a Janome sewing machine from them, and Im currently enrolled in an Intro to Quilting class that I love! The fabric selection is wonderful and their variety of sewing notions and supplies has also been more than adequate for the projects Ive been working on. The ladies (and gentleman) who staff the store are all very warm, inviting, and willing to help and answer questions. They also offer sewing machine repair and servicing in-house, though I havent personally made use of those services yet. I would highly recommend this store and the many classes they offer on an ongoing basis! Support your small business owners and SHOP LOCAL!

I am a teacher and have over 12 Bernina sewing machines. I purchased one from A Common Thread. I later needed parts for my other Bernina machines. They sold me non-authentic Bernina bobbin casings and told me that they had been using them for years and that they worked just fine. Not true. They jammed repetitively and now Im stuck with them. I tried calling several times for over a month and never received a return call from the owner. Unfortunately, I care for my elderly father in Oregon, so I am only there every few months. I will never return, they are not honest.

Horrible place. I wont ever go back. I took a vacuum cleaner in to have the electrical cord replaced. I was told on phone it would be approximately $25 for a new cord and $ 30 for labor. But when I went in to get the vacuum cleaner (it took 2 weeks!) the total was $116.99!!!! They charge $180/hr for labor (and say it took 40 minutes).

Enjoyable. I like a smaller store, well organized, with a great variety of color and prints. Good selection of black and brown toned fabric. Also nice selection of sale fabric too. Very courteous people running the store. I will be back.

I took a sewing class here recently and it was so much fun! Learned a lot of real, down to earth sewing skills and plan on signing up for more classes in the future. Great work space, and very friendly staff and teachers!
