I have been to Mood in person and purchased off of their website. I was there in person about a year ago and while I had one very helpful salesperson (who also cut very generous yardage), the rest of the salespeople were downright rude (maybe Im just too used to rural PA hospitality). I live in a rural area and so most of the time I actually buy my apparel fabric online. Since the selection at the Mood store was so good I went to their website recently and purchased a silk jersey fabric. It was listed on the website as 56" wide but when I received it, I tried to lay out pattern pieces and discovered it was actually 46" wide. BIG DIFFERENCE! I had to alter my pattern in order to make it fit on the fabric and let me tell you, that was not a fun experiene since it was already a difficult pattern. I expect that colors may not be accurately represented on a computer monitor and keep this in mind when shopping online, but I find it unacceptable that $25/yd fabric have the width listed incorrectly! I sent them an email regarding this but to be honest, given my experience with the sales staff last time, I am not expecting a response or any kind of corrective action. Overall, Mood has great selection, but I would go in person in the future and expect people to be unfriendly and rude. Also know that you will not be paying bargain prices, but rather prices you should expect for good quality fabric. **Addendum 9/15/11: Just wanted to give an update that someone from Mood did call me regarding the mess up with my fabric width and they are sending me a free yard of fabric. I was pleasantly surprised as they called to resolve the issue the morning after I sent the email. I am pleased that they went out of their way to try and resolve the issue. As such, I will probably purchase there again.

UPDATE: I received an email from Customer Service. They confirm the refund. I contacted my bank and I was able to get it straightened out. Ive changed my rating to fair because I think they should keep better track of their inventory and fix their website. I am writing to express how disappointed I am with Mood Fabrics. First, I could not set up an account online, so I made my order as a guest. Second, I had to have Andrew from the customer service team set up my account but he forgot to add my points from my order, so when I called to ask about the points I spoke with Brittany and I was told that they could not be added to my account and that Mood didnt have the full yardage that I ordered. I authorized the change in yardage. My curtain pleats are getting smaller with each phone call. I emailed Andrew about the points because he said they could be added to my order and he replied hed work on having them added. (Andrew added the points. Yay Andrew!) So then I get another call from Brittany that when I was invoiced, I was not charged for one yard and was asked to pay by credit card. I gave card number and waited for shipping confirmation. A few days later, I got another call from Brittany that the LA store miscounted the yardage and that I was to get a refund on my card for the one yard. As of today, I still have not received the refund. I have received the fabric and it is everything Id hoped it would be but I dont know if the headache was worth it. I dont think I will ever order from Mood Fabrics again.

I have been shopping at mood religiously for the past 3 years, and have the privilege of feeling like family here. They have the highest quality fabrics due to their unique stock of actual designer textiles. I am a full-time designer who specializes in womens made to measure, which means I am constantly shopping for statement and everyday textile, and they have a huge array of both. Dont be intimidated by their huge reputation, they treat their customers like friends. I can always depend on their staff to help me with advice as well as a second opinion on visual direction and whats current. Several established and well known designers and celebrities shop here due to their stock, I shop here for the genuine people, competitive pricing and amazing resources. People to know, Upstairs on the 4th floor (wool/knit) you have to chat with Eric Perryman regarding silhouette, Quay and Todd on whats next and new and just give Finnete a hug...shes the sweetest. Third floor: Kyndrell is no longer there, but I love Anitas bubbly personality. Ben is very helpful and Julio makes my day! Sharon is in management, so if something goes wrong (never) shes the go-to. She is very assertive and always gets to the root of any issue quickly and professionally. Luv her!! Second floor, not down often enough but in leather; Dimitri, he is a leather God. lol Hope this review is helpful, and enjoy your visit to mood!! Gabrielle xx

My 11yr old daughter is a huge fan of Project Runway, so we planned a stop there on a recent NYC trip (she was thrilled when she spied the fabric one of the designers used in the Seasons challenge, lol). Project Runway must have been a huge boon for business for Mood because unless you are a fashion student, you would never just happen upon it. I knew where it was supposed to be, but expected a storefront. It was only after walking the block twice and finally stepping into the street and looking up that I saw a small sign for Mood in a window. There is an office bldg-type entrance in the middle of the block, and you go in there, and then up the elevator to come out on the middle of Moods 3 floors. Based on the reviews, I wasnt expecting great customer service, but I had no less than 3 associates ask if I needed any help, and everyone, including the person working the door, greeted us with smiles. The person working the register was also extremely friendly. The fabric selection is huge, and yes the prices are expensive, but the cuts are very generous. I definitely plan on going back, and will plan on more time to shop!

Tremendous selection and fair prices, even if some seem completely off (it isnt unusual to find something very underpriced or overpriced. It seems they mark up at whim if the pattern is sophisticated), but it is generally a deal. HORRENDOUS staff, with only a few exceptions. There are so many chips on so many shoulders Leonardo may well have done them in marble. Their swatching system is tedious and wastes so much of my time, and employees always seem exasperated to do it. Some employees have outright ignored me, others have been hostile. Its always distracting, so I rarely come out of there with what Im looking for. Mood needs to realize the design process is dependent upon sampling (we have to see things in natural light - their flourescents wash it all out!). I understand the pressure and mind boggling extensiveness of the line. I also understand how obnoxious fashion students can be, but because it is so time consuming and unpleasant to shop at Mood as a professional, I avoid it. If they want professional business they need to crack down on the kids and give us better service.
