Having worked for a Safeway when I was fresh out of high school, I know the standards that Safeway sets for employees in the field of customer service. I have always noticed in most Safeways, that they extend the customer service that they are trained to do. The Gladstone Safeway does not meet those standards, unfortunately. Very rarely do the employees greet or ask to help customers or display any sort of positive emotion. The checkers often engage in conversations with each other as if the customers are invisible and Ive even witnessed some awkward conversations that shouldnt be had while on the job, especially in front of customers. There are only 2 employees (checkers) that have really stuck out, as excellent. This Safeway needs to re-train or have secret shoppers (if they dont already) to help improve the customer service experience. I dont want to feel as though everyone is depressed and doesnt want to be there. Its contagious and makes me feel yucky. *I have to agree with another review about the produce. My produce typically does well when I buy elsewhere. My Safeway produce doesnt seem to last long at all. I wonder why?*

The store layout is lacking, as there are regularly complete sections of items missing from the shelves. The store is dimly lit with narrow isles cluttered with goods not stocked on the shelves and nobody around. The produce has a very poor selection and much of it is going bad or does so in just a couple days. The meat area is often not stocked with any selection - customers will have a choice of one thing. The service is dismal at best of times. Workers yell across the store and discuss issues as if the customers are just people that are in the way of them doing their job. Checkout is usually one lane staffed by someone who appears to be unable to quickly check through regular orders and completely stalls on any special circumstances. I have shopped at this location on a number of occasions and no longer intend to do so. Walking or driving an extra few miles is worth the difference.

Here is my review. Been going to this store for 5 yrs because its the only store in the neighborhood. Mary is the best employee there. She actually puts groceries in your cart. Went there yesterday & had to put all 11 bags in my cart. I thought this was Safeway & not winco. You need security there in the store & parking lot because of the riff raff that hangs out near the bottle return. They wont repair the sidewalks that is a tripping hazard. Oh & yes the chicken does suck!! I wish Fred Meyers was closer!

This is a small Safeway in a working class, former mill town. the produce is good there is no store bakery. The staff are very nice and work hard to take care of customers needs. So why 3 stars? The deli. Their chicken is frequently dried out and hard. I have mentioned this on several occasions but no improvement. Too bad this leaves a bad taste for the whole store and the rest of the store doesnt deserve it.

This store is small and has limited stock. The majority of the time when I go in the cashiers are rude. The last time I had a return at 8:00 pm and was told the customer service desk was closed. Also they lock one of the doors at 8:00 pm which seems early. In addition to all of that, their cold beer/wine selection is limited to the expensive beers and no wines and they dont sell singles out of six packs.

Clerk was obviously having a bad day, or is just an old cow who hates her life and felt the need to take it out on me. Customers jaws dropped at her nasty attitude towards me. I should have slapped her, I was so embarrassed. First time Ive stepped in that store and also my last time. I now drive to Portland for all my grocery needs! Good luck to the clerk. Cow.

I like this Safeway and its a great little store really close to me, but Ive almost stopped going because they never have enough cashiers and they all seem to be new and slow every week. It usually takes me way longer to check out than it does to shop. I really hope they open self check or hire more cashiers soon!

This is a smaller Safeway that doesnt have a bakery but it always has what I need and I love the staff there. I live right between 2 Safeways and always choose to go to this one. It feels less like a Safeway and more like a small local grocery store. They are always so friendly.

Bought Appr. $60 worth of groceries. Got towed. Paid out $340 to get car back. Make no mistake, you can blame the tow company all you want, but Safeway signed the contract to allow them do this on their private property. Wish I could rate less than one star....

I dont like Safeways in general their prices are way too high and they never are stuck on their stuff. I only go there if I absolutely have to. And its right down the street from where I live. I will go out of my way to another store instead of going there.

The store has a US Bank ATM. Honestly, if you are in that area of SE and need that, its the only real appeal. The store is overwhelmed with customers and is physically too small to carry a significant selection or room to shop and check out.

This is the smallest Safeway in Oregon, and theyre staffed accordingly. However, I have always had pleasant interactions with the Pharmacy staff and the cashiers. These days they usually have 2 or 3 cashiers working whenever I stop by.

This particular safeway is very old and rundown, but its still a good safeway. Though, expect a good long wait in line. Its ridiculous. I waited once for 30 minutes just to pay. I was furious.

The Fred Meyer store I usually return my bottles to is remodeling and their can/bottle machines were and still are out of service. Anyway I went to Safeway and they gladly took my returns.

Dont even know why I waste my time and gas coming here anymore. It is 620 am doughnuts still not in the shelves. And conveniently the creamer on sale is somewhere, they just cant find it.

Decent store with good variety of staples at decent prices. Access was convoluted and parking a bit odd. Would be 4 stars except the size and access make it a destination when in need.

Slow. If you shop here prepare to take your time and read a novel while waiting to check out. They are friendly there....but holy mother of God, they are slow.

Not the best, or cleanest of Safeways, but it is the closest. I would like a bit more variety but its just not a new, big modern store
