I saw a vehicle I liked on the website, so I filled out the "credit approval" app to get a sense of where I fall credit-wise, as I am familiar with my credit score, but Ive never been financed for a car (I have always bought from private owners). I was immediately e-mailed and called that I was approved for up to $25,000 on a new vehicle purchase. I spoke with someone named "Sean" who asked me what I was looking for, and I told him an older-model SUV or maybe something AWD, perhaps a 2004-2008 range model, and he then told me to come on down to look at the "hundreds" of available models on their lot. I drove out to Akron to meet with him, and to see the vehicles that were available. I was told to have a seat, and that Sean would be right with me. Now background, Im in my 30s, but I appear to be very young. I feel this seemed to lower my stock with VanDevere and Sean, as I was told by him personally that he was busy, and that someone else would be helping me. I was assigned a dis-interested trainee, who immediately told me I needed to fill out more credit forms, before I would be able to see any vehicles. I indicated that I would rather look first, because I wasnt trying to buy out of my price range, and that if I didnt like any of the vehicles available, I didnt want to waste my (or their) time. Again I was told "No no no fill out these credit forms, it should only take about 15 minutes". So I resigned, and sat down and started with the forms. 15 minutes turned into nearly two hours, as I was given more and more forms to fill out, and asked for copies of pay stubs, and asked for half a dozen references (just to look at a car?), and every form that I completed, I had to wait even longer for the attendee I was assigned to resurface, just to take the form, and at one point I looked at my watch and decided that I would give them five more minutes, before I was going to leave, as I was made to feel VERY unimportant, and I could feel my day slipping away, waiting in a dealership showroom, when I could be somewhere else test-driving. After all of this waiting, I was told by the recent high-school graduate that I had a choice of four Chevy Aveos to look at, and he asked me if I was interested. What happened to all of the "hundreds of models" available at their lot? Finished with the whole experience, I told him that I "wasnt interested", and left. I was stopped out in the parking lot by an older gentleman, who was the first person to actually show interest in my visit since I had been there, and he apologized, and again showed me a list of Chevy Aveos. I indicated again to him that I was in the market for an SUV, or an AWD sedan, or something of that nature, and that I didnt want to look at any Aveos, in fact I have no interest whatsoever in an Aveo. He thanked me for coming by, and I headed home, completely jaded by the visit. I just wish they would have saved me a lot of my time, and were upfront from the beginning. I would never go back, and I would not recommend this dealership to any friends or family. Im in sales myself, and I would never treat a customer as I had been treated.

DO NOT BUY a car from here. They are dishonest and hide critical safety conditions of their vehicles and then refuse to even negotiate on any sort of resolution. My husband and I bought a Chevy Tahoe with only 35k miles from Bo at VanDevere Auto not even a year ago. We had the car shipped from Ohio to California. Upon receiving the vehicle, we discovered significant RUST along with several other mechanical issues that were NEVER disclosed or mentioned. Our family was on the freeway when the brake lines blew due to the rust and were almost in a very bad accident. We have since spent over $2,000 to repair the brakes and were told by 3 mechanics to sell the vehicle because it is not safe. Upon calling VanDever Auto and speaking with Chris Bender and with JERRY VanDevere, he said it wasnt his problem and he was going on vacation and that he would not even send me the safety inspection report of the car so that we may mix anything else. Family company?? They take advantage of trusting car buyers and then will not even discuss a resolution. We are now taking a loss of about $10,0000 for only having the car less than year as we refuse to sell it to a private party since the car is unsafe to drive and we will not be liars like VanDevere Auto. If anyone wants an unsafe car with rusted brake lines and wheel wells, let me know!

Terrible customer service. I tried to buy a car listed on their web page, first day it was listed I contacted them. I am not local so requested some photos, got 5 fuzzy shots from an Iphone, asked for better quality shots but indicated I was very interested in purchasing the car. Was promised better photos and received nothing. Two days later someone else calls wondering what we thought about the car, indicated I was waiting for the promised photos. "Oh, well take a video and send that to you", never received. I left multiple voice mails and emails with no replies. I then called to get a different sales person who indicated they would get better photos and verify car was a non-smoker, this is a week after the initial contact. The next day they call and tell us the car has been sold!". Wife was furious. So the original sales person calls saying "I thought customer service told you it was sold", if they had why would I still be trying to contact them about the car. Absolutely stunning lack of customer service. I guess that comes when sales people dont work on commission, they dont care. I would suggest anyone trying to buy a car in Akron check out the other dealerships first. If I could give less than one star I would.

Wish I had read these reviews before we got up at 6AM and drove almost 3 hours one way to see a car! Wed been looking for a specific car in a specific color and they had it. Jason was kind enough to make a quick video and email it to us. We told him wed be driving up and would let him know when we were coming to make sure the car was still available. We called 3 times the day before and left messages to please call us so we could check on the status of the car. No return calls. And there was not even an answering machine on the dealership phone or on his desk phone. WTH? We emailed him to say we were leaving early in the morning. We arrived shortly after the doors were opened. He said the car "was delivered last night." At first I couldnt understand what that meant. Delivered where? I said, "The car is gone...sold?" He admitted he sold the car...which is fine. The problem is that we spent an entire day driving across the state of Ohio for absolutely nothing. Now as I read the other reviews, Id say it was a close call. We most certainly would have bought the car when we got there. The trouble might have REALLY started then.
