We recently reserved and attempted to rent a pickup truck from The Furniture Outlet at 3722 Market Street, Wilmington, NC. When we got there the man was very rude and condescending. We had a credit card that we had reserved the vehicle with online. He said that he would have to charge us $100 deposit to rent the vehicle despite us having a card and despite the uhaul website not advising us of this during the reservation process. He also said that we HAD to purchase the $10 coverage until I questioned him about it being required and then he stated, "oh well then i need your valid drivers license and proof of insurance." On top of that we told him we would be driving about 20 miles. Instead of him charging us the estimated mileage plus rental cost he said the minimum he could charge was for 50 miles and then if we drove any less that we would be refunded. When we questioned this as well, he told us thats how his location does it and if we dont like it to visit another uhaul location. My 6 year old daughter was with us and she was patiently sitting on one of their chairs in the furniture gallery. One of her flip flops touched the chair and the man physically touched her feet to remove them. My daughter is biracial. My husband and I are a biracial couple and got the feeling that we were not welcome there with all the pushback and rudeness we encountered. All we wanted to do was rent the vehicle to pick up my couch. We ended up leaving after feeling belittled and insulted.

Although Im waiting to save up to get the items I want, everything there is great quality, comfy and definitely at a more affordable price than all the other stores in town. The customer service was also great. The gentleman that helped me was reserved but was well-mannered gentleman. He was extremely helpful, knew his product well, and he gave me space to leisurely look around but was always available for any of the thousand questions I had. I appreciated that because I hate how the other stores salespeople constantly clobber people with fake niceties, ask too many irrelevant questions and basically stalk you the entire time youre shopping. I can say this place is NOT like that. They are very helpful without being pushy at all. I cant wait to go back and get the items I am saving for!

The male sales staff mainly (TIM) was extremely rude and unhelpful, I was in the store to rent a Uhaul Truck and was double charged when I called back and asked if the 2nd charge could be reversed I was told I need to wait or call UHAUL. When I asked for the corporate number to call he gave me the wrong number to some insurance company. Not sure if I was treated disrespectfully because I was a woman or possibly my race but either way Tim needs some serious customer service training. I have used Uhaul trucks each time I have moved and for the subcontractor/kiosk provider at FURNITURE OUTLET on Market St that rents the trucks to be so unpleasant it gives UHAUL a bad name. Never rent from that site... There star rating is a NEGATIVE STAR but had to put something for it to allow me to post.

OMG -- worst customer service experience ever -- sales person was extremely rude, followed me around the store like he was certain I was going to steal something, answered every question with a question, and after I said I didnt find anything I was interested in he followed me out to the parking lot, questioned why I carried a notebook with me but didnt write anything down, and demanded to know "what I was up to." After I explained that I simply didnt see anything I was interested in, he told me to "leave the property and dont come back." Dont worry -- I wont.

We have purchased many pieces of furniture (8 mattresses, 4 couches, several occasional chairs, other living room accessories) from this business over the last 5 years and have never been dissatisfied. Their prices are reasonable and the items we have picked have been exactly the quality we would expect for the price. Sometimes we have gone for inexpensive items and they have held up well. Other times we have bought for quality and been pleased. We like purchasing from local businesses and these folks are a pleasure to deal with.

Purchased a couch from here. It had rips in the seam and the feet were crooked and we could not fix it. The couch was nothing like the one we saw in the store. They did not care to help fix the problem. Waste of money. We ended up giving the couch away. Would not shop here again. I would rather pay $200 more at another furniture store for a decent couch and better customer service.

Owner is as friendly and helpful as they come. I rented a uhaul truck from him and he was very accommodating with the whole process, especially with allowing me to drop off the truck after hours to avoid renting it for longer than I needed to.
