I recently traveled from my home in Maryland to visit my son in Chapel Hill. While I was there we went to the Learning Express to look for a toy for my 8 month old grand daughter. When I got the toy home and put the batteries in I was disappointed with the music/sounds the toy made so I called the store and talked to Sam Hunter. I asked if I could send it back in the mail and receive store credit even though I had lost the receipt in my travels. He said that I could. Today he called to tell me that the package had arrived and he reimbursed me the almost $9 that it cost to send it. I wasnt expecting that! Sam was so nice and helpful. I know my son will enjoy shopping there for things for his niece even after the store credit has been used! Thanks, Sam.

Whenever I can, I head here instead of the Large Chain with a Backwards R. Theres still a lot of selection, but the toys tend to be more educational and creative, less aggressively gendered, and less driven by franchise tie-in interests. Im not saying you cant find Darth Vader anywhere in the store; just that you can find a lot of Playmobil and board games that win awards from parent groups for their logic-building gameplay. Plus you find staff who are helpful and friendly, and dont put off such a "Did you find what you were looking for I cant speak freely or theyll fire me but please get me out of here" vibe.

This store has very unique and extremely educational gifts. Expect to pay a little more the items but still worth it. Very little overlap with Walmart/target type educational kids gifts.

Went during the Christmas rush and they were busy, but still helpful and well-staffed. Lots of great ideas for kids (and even adults)!
